A lot of you will be in Mazatlan around summer.The water is nice and warm. The beaches all around Mexico are public, so you may go to any beach you like. Some Hotels, have certain areas for their guests, but the beach or water part is public.
Some nice beaches in Mazatlan are: Stone Island beach, Deer Island beach or easier to access, Playa Gaviotas or Sabalo beach. I like the beach between the Playa Mazatlan and El Cid Hotels, and as you get there, you are in the Golden zone. To get there, a taxi will charge you around $10us per taxi one way. The ride is around 20 - 25 minutes.

I am so sorry about the delay in answering, but I have been busy this week. Business has been good and I am not complaining, hahahahaha

The tour you are talking about takes you out to La Noria, where you visit a Huarache factory, where they are made the old way, you visit a beautiful church and you see how horse saddles are made. Also you go to a Tequila factory. At this moment, the tequila factory is not in operation. Perhaps by the time you arrive here they will be producing. Many tour companies take you there and explain the process and even give you samples, but they are not producing. They have told me since January that they would start again. I do believe they will and perhaps by summer they will be ready. I think you will enjoy this tour a lot.

We will be riding with Randi on our day in Mazatlan. She said we will return around 2 pm. We'd like to see a little bit of the city on our own after that if we can. What would you suggest we MUST SEE if we only have a few hours? And what would be the best form of transportation? There will be 4 of us...myself, DH, DD8, and DS4. Thanks!

This is what we're doing too while in Maztlan too. Frank if Randi drops us off at 2 can we still do a city tour with you? Our ship is not leaving until 7pm now...but someone posted something about Maztlan is one hour ahead of the ship. Is this true? Can you explain. If it is mommykeg and I might have given Randi our wrong arrival time. Please help...I'm confused.

All the ships that arrive in Mazatlan have our local time. I would imagine that this will be the same case for the Magic. Puerto Vallarta is one hour ahead from us and from the ship normally. Yes it is possible to do a tour after Randi.

I do not think I know everything, but I like to try and help. Today I received the DCL Shore Excursions guide. We are planning on doing the Tequila, Saddles and Huaraches tour. ( Which I have asked you about...thank you for the answer) I noticed that the tour "Mexican Countryside Expedition" stops at "the oldest tequila factory". Is this the same factory? Any info is much appreciated.

Sorry for the delay, but I went to Puerto Vallarta and did what the tourists do, RELAX! hahaha.
I came back and of course had to work to pay for the days I took off, but here I am again.

MY Cricket: I would say Melodias Michoacanas on Aquiles Serdan street, close to the main market or also there is a Music shop on Zaragoza corner with Carnaval street. By the ship, there are little shops and a little mercado, perhaps if you look around there, you will find one. Good luck!


Cotomom : I would say insist on Randi. I might see her next week and ask her to see what she can do. Maybe she gets a cancellation. Anyways, let me check.

Tink1963 : I think that the Tequila, Huaraches and Saddles goes to La Noria, which is a town. The other tour goes to El Quelite which is another town. What I can assure you is that both tours go to Los Osuna tequila factory unless they start producing at a new one I heard of, but is just starting.

LittleKid58 : I am sure that there will be a lot of noise and joy when the Magic arrives to Mazatlan. I am not sure yet what it will be, but as you say, it will be a surprise! I am sure that it will be something real nice.

Cotomom: be patient with Frank...he does wonders....he arranged with Randi for us to do horseback riding in the morning and go with him on his tour in the afternoon. I thought that was almost impossible but Frank did it. Good luck. Frank and Randi are good friend I think.

Frank...glad you had a nice rest. How far from Matz. is Puerto Vallarta? Did you drive or fly? I haven't travelled at all so have no clue. Did you have anything good to eat? I am looking for a place for lunch in Puerto Vallarta. Prefer close to where the ship docks. I have Matzatlan covered thanks to you! Going to Tony's on the beach!!!!

Gracias!!!! I thank you all for the nice wishes. Yes, we had a great time in PV. It was 4 days, but they were great!
I have a nice friend that is a tour guide there and he took us to some places that we had not been to. We went to a Tequila factory, a farming area and a beach. We also did the Sunset Pirate ship trip and much more.

lkohawaii : Thanks for the nice wishes! It sure was relaxing.

pppiglet : PV is around 6 hours driving. Getting closer to PV there is a mountain range and a lot of traffic, but it is very panoramic. PV is south of Mazatlan. About food EXCELLENT places. I am not sure about close to the ship, but if you like Carne asada (beef) or pork or goat or lamb, go to EL OREJON it is a place where mostly locals go but is great. It is not a deluxe restaurant, but clean and nice. They even have a Mariachi playing there sometimes. We had the combo for 2 (which included a little bit of everything) with drinks and paid around $200 pesos ($20us), but we brought food to the Hotel. If you want a stunning view, go to a place which was recommended by some people I took on a tour, it is called Las Carmelitas. It is way up on a hill (you have to take a taxi) probably 1000 meters above sea level. The view is incredible and the food very good. I had BBQ ribs $85pesos ($8us). If you do not want to go too far away, I am sure that there should be some good places closer to the ship. While you are in Mazatlan at Tonys, look for Tony or Lorenzo and ask for the complimentary drink (piña coladas are great! even without alcohol, if you do not like it)
