Mazatlan, Mexico

SUESINGS
Mazatlan does not have cobblestone roads. Puerto Vallarta does. We have nice sidewalks, a beautiful New Malecon (boardwalk) and many ramps for handicaps and of course strollers. You would probably be going to the Golden zone where most things are, so you would have to take a taxi. So I think you would have no problem with the stroller. Enjoy Mazatlan amigos!

That is a nice thing to do. I would recommend the Hotel Playa. http://www.hotelplayamazatlan.com/
It is one of my favorites. It is right in the middle of the Golden zone. Have a great day there. I think they also have a semi or all inclusive package.

The Golden zone is the Hotel and shopping area. It is the tourist area (probably because us locals do not buy souvenirs, as we live here, haha), El Centro which is downtown is mostly shoe stores, boutiques and fabric stores.
The Golden zone is in the North part of town. Los Sabalos is at the beggining of the Golden zone. Yes, there is plenty of shopping there. Yes, it is right next door to the Hotel Playa. They are both neighbors.

I hope these answers help you as you visit Mazatlan. Any other questions are more then welcome.

Have a great week!

The water taxi to Stone Island is about 3 blocks from the cruiseships passenger terminal building. As you get out to the street, turn left 3 blocks down straight ahead. It is at the end of the street. So you can walk there.

Any other questions please ask.

Mazatlan Frank

Thanks so much Frank, you have been a hugh help!!!!

Frank we want to go shopping. Can you give us more info on the golden zone and shopping near the piers? I think someone posted that shopping at the piers are better than shopping in the Golden zone. Also, are there places that you take your guests on to shop that are not "tourist" shopping? Actually some place that doesn't just sell souviniers. We want to experience the real Maztlan not the touristy side.

Your welcome Radioqueen. I am glad that I can help you all!

The ship area has a little flee market. You can find some good deals there and also good deals at the golden zone. The golden zone by taxi from the ship is around 25 minutes away. For an original piece of art go to Nid art (www.nidart.com) in the old Mazatlan, they are fantastic! They are also good friends of mine, if you go there ask for Loa and Rak.

Frank,
Is there a way to get a day use room at the El CId? We have a 2yo son and 6yo daughter, and the El Cid looks to be the best for us. Also how do we get there with the 2yo. my wife will not let him in a car without a car seat?

I am trying to find out if this possible as well, and I'm also concerned about the car seat issue. Expedia has pretty good rates. I guess if they don't have a day rate, we figure that we can just use the pool and hope that we'll get an early check-in.

I am sure that you will be able to get a room at El Cid for the day. Why don´t you contact them direct? www.elcid.com
About the car seat, little problem, the taxis do not have one. What I can do is see if any of my taxi driver friends happen to have one and take it aboard the day you arrive. Let me know if you want this and I will try, can not guarantee but will try.

NEWFAMILYMAN
Same thing. Try direct. The other way is go thru the timeshare people at the docks. They will probably send you there "free", go thru the timeshare talk and use the Hotel. I think you do have to pay your way back. Hope one of these ideas help you.

Yes, there are little restaurants at Stone Island. I have heard that the shrimp at Victors is great! I really do not know where Victors is exactly because I have never been there. But I have heard so much about him.
I guess someday I will have to sacrifice myself and try it! hahaha :rotfl2:

Have a great weekend!

Yes, Frank you must try Victor's. I have an idea. Why don't you come with us on the morning of our tour. Then we'll have you for the entire day...not just 1/2 the day. :earboy2: You'll be a tourist for 11/2 the day and then tour guide for the other half.

We are doing our first cruise with Disney on the West Coast version. ANy suggestions for managing events for a 13 y/o and 5 y/o twins while not boring either of them? We know there is a chance the twins might prefer to stay on board but in case they want to join us...what do you suggest?

I have tried reading thru all your great ideas.... I think I will take a note book and start making notes as well.

Thanks

Mazagua is a very nice water park we have in the new part of Mazatlan. It is perhaps a 40 minute taxi ride but a very nice water park with slides, swimming pool with waves and many other things. Something closer is the Aquarium (acuario Mazatlan) which is not a SeaWorld but I think it is nice. They have some nice shows every hour and after that maybe you want to go and visit the famous Sr Frogs. It is around two blocks from the aquarium.
The other thing to do is book Randies Happy Horses. She takes you to Stone Island and you ride the horses plus you have a great lunch at Victors (I have not tried it but perhaps I will one of these days).
Those are some ideas......

Have a great weekend!

hi Mazatlan Frank! i was just checking the shore excursions being offered by DCL on their upcoming West Coast cruises. what can you tell me about Los Sabalos, Las Moras Ranch and Las Flores? of all three land destinations, which one would be most suitable to do a beach excursion: Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan or Cabo San Lucas? what about snorkeling?

thanks for your expertise. :flower:

Could i add another question..we are booked on a SIERRA MADRE tour... should we stick with this tour..or do you have any suggestions instead...thanks

twinglez
Your welcome, any other questions please ask. Enjoy Mazatlan!

Los Sabalos is a 5 star Hotel, very nice, good buffet and nice beach and pool. Las Moras is a ranch that is around 40 minutes away from Mazatlan, very nice also, good food, nice pool but no beach. They do have horses for rent though. Las Flores is ok, I would prefer Los Sabalos. I would say for the beach, it could be any of the three destinations. Each one has a little something. Have fun!

The Sierra Madre tour is great. I have done it many times. I call it a tour of real Mexico. If you do it through the ship try to go with the tour guide Maria, she is my mother. I am sure that you will enjoy it very much.

All of you out there, have a lot of fun while in Mazatlan!

Did you know that Mazatlan has the highest natural lightouse in the world? Yes, it is 515 feet above sea level. We say natural because it is on a natural hill and not a man made structure. Actually at one time it was an island, but was conected to mainland. If you like hiking, it is worth the view. You are up there and everything is down below. I have done the hike in around 40 minutes, stopping once or twice to catch my breath :bitelip:
There is no charge to go up there and it is not far from the docks. Well, lets say around 8 blocks aprox.
Have fun if you go there!

Mazatlan Frank

Frank...is the lighthouse up stairs or just a natural path? My kids are pretty good path hikers but might be overwhelmed doing it if it is a really steep incline. THANKS :flower:
