Maybe moving to Florida in a year or two - would you buy an Annual Pass now?

I am considering (despite some ongoing Disney concerns) purchasing two Annual Passes on April 20th when the sales window opens. One or both of the Passholders MAY be moving to Florida - likely more toward the mid/end of 2024. I understand that the passes now need to be activated by the one year mark, and then would be good for one year. We are currently out of state/non DVC, so we only have the $1400 option.

Would you buy now?

The one family member is much more likely to be headed to Florida (after graduation); so I was thinking of buying two, and then using both if she qualified for a Florida pass at some point, but the one year to activation would kill that idea, as well as hearing that you can't transfer the pass to another party. Any insight would be great. Thanks!

I bought mine the last time the window opened with the hope of moving to Florida in a couple years. I have no idea how changing to a local pass will work once I get there, but I have no regrets about owning the pass I have.

I'd go ahead and buy the AP now. If you are moving in a couple years, you'll likely be making several trips to FL to find a place to live. With an AP you can combine those with a visit to WDW.

When you do move to FL you'll have to wait until your current AP expires before you can get a FL resident pass.

I would wait unless you are sure you will be making WDW trips before then, you can’t delay gratification, and you don’t think the FL resident only discounted passes won’t work for you. We waited until we qualified for resident weekday passes and have been thrilled with them. YMMV

You can have more than one pass at a time, you just are paying for both and only really need one so it's kind of a waste. It doesn't make sense financially unless you are maybe trying to change your renewal date or like us, we have a pixie pass and we are going to activate our new sorcerer passes later this year even though our pixies are still valid so we don't have to spend money on weekend tickets for a couple trips we have booked. It was more financially beneficial to have overlap than to buy additional tickets.

The other thing I will say is that we wish we had AP's when we first moved here last summer and we bought the pixie pass but really wanted to be able to go on weekends so I regret having not kept our AP's through covid. However, it seems like they are continuing to make AP's more available so it may not be as much of a concern now.

You have a year to activate them, if you don't you can use the value of the passes towards the purchase of a new pass (at the current price) or for tickets. So worst case, you have credit towards tickets if you don't activate the AP's. And if you are like us, there is probably a good chance you will find yourself going to Disney in the next year or so :)

I’d wait. If waiting until you moved, you’d qualify for FL resident rate if you have the proof Disney needs. Although there’s no guarantee that passes will be sold when you move. There are at least special FL resident ticket and usually a pass like the pixie pass.

Well your title says "maybe" moving to FL. I'd wait until I at least knew for sure (and then I'd still wait until I actually moved so I could get the FL resident pricing). FL residents can also do monthly payments on their passes if that matters.

Are you going to buy two NEW Incredipass but then not use them? And if someone maybe moves to Florida activate them? Is this only to guarantee you have a pass when the move happens, if it happens? So no money is being saved and FL Residents have always had at least one option to buy so far.

That seems like lots of money to tie up on on several maybes, I don't think the risk is worth it.

I’d wait. Moving requires plenty of cash for other things and what if the movee doesn’t have time for Disney on hitting FL? Maybe they hit town and find they don’t really have an interest in Disney at the time? Too much uncertainty here to shell out $1400+

Thanks! I know that I would use it if I had it; I'm just stuck wondering if Disney will discontinue AP sales again; my kiddo moves to Florida, and then I wouldn't be able to get a pass in the future.

Interesting! I didn't realize you had to let your current pass run down before getting the newer/less expensive one. And I hadn't thought about the pre-move scoping it all out visits! Great perspective!

Thanks! I'm guessing my kiddo (if she moves there) would certainly use her Florida pass - I didn't realize that they never stopped the sale of those!

I did read today that you can use the cost paid as a credit toward another pass/tickets. So maybe that matters?

I didn't realize until today that thy hadn't stopped the sale of the Florida passes; that would be a vote towards waiting or just buying one pass for me (the one less likely to move).

It is a lot of money...I guess I just have that FOMO if they stop the sales of the passes again...

nteresting! I didn't realize you had to let your current pass run down before getting the newer/less expensive one.
Well, actually you can upgrade while your current pass is in effect. The trouble is that they don't pro-rate the difference so it's usually not worth it.
