May 5, 2010 Magic of Barcelona

Hi all,

Well I have finally made it over here and am slowly reading through all the useful information.

We will be joining you all, there are 12 of us all booked on this cruise. 6 adults and 6 children ages 3 - 13 years. We are all so excited, think the adults more so than the kids :yay::yay:

Non of us have been on a Disney Cruise before but some have been to Disney in Florida and Paris so we know how good it will be :woohoo:

Welcome Disneylover!! All the kids will have a blast!! The 75 day mark is fast approaching and planning can begin! :)

Have fun planning!!
Tara

Thanks Tara, I am really excited now and can't wait to start planning. Got a few bits planned but looking on here I need to seriously think about proper planning :)

we got another cruiser! now my dad will be joing us as well! we booked him a room when we were on the Wonder last weekend!

Thinking about packing for the trip - I know it's like 3 months away but still....
How many pairs of shoes are you going to take?:laundy:

I'm going to pack as light as possible and will probably do at least 2 loads of washing while on board.
I'll bring a pair of slippers, a pair of flip flops, casual sandals, dressy heels for formal night and a single pair of trainers for walking.
;)
Oh and I haven't thought about pirate clothes yet. Is everyone doing that? pirate:

I'm taking tennis shoes, a pair of heels (which must go with every dress I take) and probably my Tevo flip-flops. I'm taking 3 dresses for myself, plus jeans and some Mom uniforms (velour track suits...I know, but they're sooooo comfy!), a light jacket, swimsuit and cover-up...we're going for 3 weeks total, so we'll spend our first sea day doing laundry!

I really can pack light when I have to. For myself. I've backpacked through Europe a couple of times and gone carry-on only for several long trips, but with my daughter, I apparently can't edit quite like I can for myself. I never seem able to manage packing light for her. I'm really going to try though. I don't want to be carrying around a bunch of luggage. I do plan to bring an extra bag for the trip home for souveniers.

Welcome Stingmom's Dad!!! On the pirate clothes..I found some black/grey striped capris/shirts (Hanna Andersson) on sale for the girls...it actually makes them look like prisoners or extras off Elvis' Jailhouse Rock performance! :) I found two scarves at Wal-Mart that have Mickey's head on it in black and they match their striped outfits...that with the bandana they give will be their outfit, I was just planning on wearing a peasant style shirt and capris...I'm trying to find a peasant style shirt for my son, but hitting second hand stores for it...haven't found anything yet...

Only two pairs of shoes, one for formal and one for walking miles and miles, no sandals for me...the kids will bring one pair of sandals, walking shoes and dress shoes....husband will probably just bring two pair...

I plan on washing undergarments but trying to pack enough clothes for everyday..I refuse to spend hours washing clothes while on vacation, I can do that at home...so most the clothes I have are lightweight/double duty type...only bringing 2 dresses...so you'll see them more than once! :)

Welcome disney-lover! This will be our first cruise as well.
As for packing, I am planning on only bringing a carry-on. I am packing some sundresses (the no-wrinkle kind), a pair of jeans and pajamas. I plan on only bringing 2 pairs of shoes, a nicer pair and a more comfy pair. I hope it works, I just don't want to have to worry with checking luggage.

Totally agree about kids making packing so much more difficult. DH and I did a month in Africa for our honeymoon on just 2 carry-ons (of course, the laundry costs ended up being 4 figures). But with kids, I end up taking my whole house with me. Gonna try to potty-train my 2 yr old before the trip so I don't have to bring diapers.
Speaking of laundry, are people doing laundry services or hand-washing? I assume there's no laundromat onboard?

As for pirate clothes, do people go all out? Are bandanas not enough?

I'll be bringing walking sandals (which I'm hoping to double as formal shoes - will people really be looking at my feet at dinner? ), flip-flops, and sneakers - actually, this list isn't so bad. I don't know why I thought I was going to be lugging 20 pairs....

Seems like it really varies, but for the Med cruise, I'd expect it to be toned down a bit, just because who is going to pack an outfit for one night? I do have a pirate dress for my daughter that I will probably bring. See what I mean about not being able to edit the packing for her! We just plan on maybe a pirate t-shirt and jeans and/or bandana.

Wow! How far is the drive to Barcelona from the Netherlands?

about 1500km or 15 hours.
It is actually cheaper to fly, but DH hates any form of public transportation, that includes flying.

We'll drive overnight to south of France, which we do almost every year, spend a couple of days there and then go on to Barcelona.

Had planned on a stop at Disneyland Paris, but it looks like Big Thunder Mountain is closed. As that is DS(6) favorite ride, there's no point:laughing:

Doesnt matter though, we just went in january and we'll go in summer or october for halloween.

Virgin cruiser here and all of family can 't wait for cruise (except 4 yr old a bit leary). Signed on to facebook too.
As are as clothes...hoping to squeeze in 5-6 outfits plus dress and 4-5 pairs of shoes. I think I read there are laundry machines on board.
We decided to mostly book DCL tours but plan to do the train to Rome on our own and Nice.
I am not sure I can get organized for fish extenders (studying for board exam in April) but would like to join up for the tea someone suggested on the 6th.
Next project weight loss....

Welcome Erin (and family)! My 4 year old loves cruising. Its good to have another younger one join the group!

Wow - can't believe your kids can handle the long drive. For some reason, I don't mind having them sit on a plane for 15 hours but I can't imagine them sitting in a car for that long. Go figure.
Always wanted to do south of France but wasn't sure where would be a good place with kids - hoping this cruise might help introduce me.

For shoes, I am packing a pair of nice heels for dinner, ballet flats, flip flops and a pair of sneakers. I'll probably wear the sneakers on to save some room in my bag. I love flip flops, so the trick will be deciding on just one pair :goodvibes

I am trying to pack things I can mix and match, like black pants for dinner that can be pair with different tops. I need to get some pants and capris that I can wear on excursions, since a lot of places ask that your knees be covered.

Like sabrecmc said, pirate night varies. Some people go all out, others dont. On our 7 night last year they gave us bandanas at dinner, but they're not very big. We bought the little eye patch/earring set they sell in the parks, and I have some red capris that I usually wear with a striped shirt pirate:

Welcome Erin! Virgin cruiser here, too. I am also working on weight loss before the cruise. Good luck with that!

Hello all!

DH and I are the latest to come aboard on this cruise. I am looking forward to our first Disney cruise. We are longtime cruisers, and also longtime attendees of the parks (all except Hong Kong, which I hope to see soon). It will be just the two of us. I am also worried about 10 am return flights, and plan to be off the ship early. I would imagine that DCL is aware of flight times and can accomodate early flights. We would be happy to share a taxi to the airport.
Tea at Palo sounds great. Is there still any space left?

Diane
