May 5, 2010 Magic of Barcelona

These upgrades are unbelievable! I do feel like I got ripped off though lol. I mean you pay so much for a verandah and then they just put people in them that paid the cheapest fair? They called me a couple weeks ago and asked me if I would like to upgrade from my 6 to a slighlty bigger room for almost $400 more. We did not take it since we have already paid so much into this trip. I'm happy you guys were so fortunate I'm just DISappointed maybe we should have booked a 12 too first. Oh well how often does this actually happen? You live and you learn.

I nearly jumped off the sofa when I saw that. I read it as you had been upgraded from cat 12 to cat 4!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:OMG! THAT would have been a SERIoUS upgrade!!

I am happy none the less. We booked what we would stay in and got upgraded at no extra cost to us. We are just happy to be on the Magic in the Med!!

We only got a 10, but am happy for those who got upgraded to oceanview.

I am kinda dissappointed. Not really because we got a 10, obviously preferred to get a 9, but it's on deck 2. Looked up the reviews and all said it was noisy:-(

I'm sorry you didn't get the oceanview! I've stayed on deck 1 and 2 a few times and we love it! I've always found it to be really quiet. The only time it was noisy was on the last night last year there were kids from the Lab sitting in the hallway, but I think someone asked them to keep it down. I've noticed I don't feel the ship moving quite as much as the upper decks (but that could be just me). It's also easier to get on and off the ship in port. I feel like we didn't wait quite so long for the elevators, either.

We actually wanted deck 2 and thought that's what we had booked, but we're on deck 7. You could always try for an upgrade at the port too.

I'm so excited to see everyone getting room assignments! It's getting close! :goodvibes

I may be crazy optimistic, but I don't think that this cruise will be as noisy as usual, with fewer kids, many young kids, people off on excursions, probably too cold to do much swimming, especially at night...I just really don't think the noise is going to be a huge issue. That being said, I don't leave home without my noise machine/projection clock!

Lemonbee, I hear ya. We really felt strongly that we wanted a verandah and what side of the ship and general location we wanted. That's why we paid a premium to ensure that we got it. I wanted to be comfortable for 10 nights, whereas on a 3 night, I wouldn't really care (we booked cat 9 last time and got a cat 6 on the Wonder). I just wasn't willing to chance the DCL pixie dust for this trip. I paid for that certainty, but it is sometimes a bit of a downer to look at what I paid, lol.

Okay we got our room assignments all the way down on deck 1! Room 1067. We spent the morning trying to get it switched and they stated there are only 20 rooms left for booking and that was not possible. She even recommended me not upgrading to an ocean view because we would probably just get moved accross the hall. I was a little bummed, but oh well. We are just going to look at it as an adventure. I'm sorry for all the fish extender people trying to find our room. You will have quite the walk! :cool1:

Just think though, you'll have first dibs on the midship elevator! Hopefully, you'll end up with an oceanview once all their maneuvering is finished. Last time, we didn't get our upgrade until 2 days before we sailed.

It's true! This is part of why I love the lower decks, it's easier to get the elevator. Deck 1 was SO quiet when we stayed on it and very easy to get on and off the ship in port. Plus, you never know, you could get an upgrade :goodvibes

I've just spoken to the others in our party and we have got all 3 rooms next to each other. We booked separately but have linked our bookings. Really really pleased as we were told we could not have rooms next to each other! :yay::yay:

We have been given a Cat 9 from 12, so that is great we will have a window. I do have a worries it is on Deck 2 at the rear, will we get loads of noise from the props and docking etc as we have 2 young kids at I wont need them up at 5am. Anyone have any views/experience on being on Deck 2 at the back. What is directly underneath? I assume staff quarters or the engines as there is no deck plan for Deck 1 that end??

Sorry I can't help you but I'm sure you will be fine. Someone mentioned earlier on the thread that they don't think the boat will be full so shouldn't be too much noise :)

Maybe you'll be up by the time we dock, since so many excursions leave early? In any event, I'm a big believer in the white noise machine! Worth its weight in gold.

Any recommendations on a good white noise machine that would work well for travel? I'm pretty sure I want to buy one - not just for the cruise but primarily for the nights in Barcelona. Seems almost every lodging review I read mentions how noisy the city is throughout the night.

The one we got is by Homedics, I believe. It has the projection clock, which is great for the cruise b/c it puts the time on the ceiling. It was recommended in the Passporter guide. We've loved having it with us on trips. We got it at Bed, Bath & Beyond.

Plug your stateroom number into the link here on the DIS and see if there are any comments about that room.

Did anyone else let DCL handle their flights? (I know it's more expensive.) It looks like they've just posted our flight information online... I think I'm going to have to call DCL in the morning. These flight times make me nervous. I was hoping to avoid this by letting them book it (and paying more), but it doesn't look like it was worth it. We're going to be cutting it close both ways and flying on 2 different airlines.

I just called DCL about the flight details and their air dept isn't in on weekends... so I guess it will have to wait until Monday. The CM I spoke to was very nice, and seemed surprised we given those flights, so hopefully they can fix things. :goodvibes

I am not worried about the noise from people, I am worried about noise from docking and other 'noise' from the boat engines and such.

I can completely understand the concern, I was really nervous the first time we were on deck 1. I am a pretty light sleeper, but I didn't notice the engine noise... However, I was not way in the back either (It was technically aft, but not all the way back). Here's a thread on the main page about it:

You could always call and ask about it, you never know :goodvibes

I think we're going to bring some pins to trade on the cruise. I'd like the kids to be able to trade fro some of the Med pins as their souviniers.

Getting excited! Spent most of the day planning our pre-cruise tour of Barcelona. We are staying at Hotel Regina. Where is everyone else staying? Really looking forward to some of the sites here like Sagrada Familia and the other Gaudi sites. What is everyone else looking forward to in Barcelona?
