May 5, 2010 Magic of Barcelona

congrats on all the upgrades!!!

This trip we will be sailing PLATINUM, so an upgrade would sweeten it even more! :goodvibes

We were cat 10 2131, but now our room is showing up 5124 which is cat 6, but the reservation still says cat 10, just shows the different room number. Do you think this is for real?

Yes, it is real :) !! Mine still shows cat 9, but has the new stateroom number which is a cat. 6. If you were to want to upgrade at the port, they would charge you from the cat. you paid at (in your case cat. 10) instead of from the cat. you end up in....that is my understanding. Congrats on your great upgrade :thumbsup2

We just got our upgrade. We went from a cat 10 (inside stateroom) to a cat 5 (outside with verandah)...
This was for both of our cabins!!!!!!

Can this get any better?????

Cant wait!party:party:

Great news about your two cabins, and that they are together at that....wonderful, good for you :thumbsup2

Looks as though they have passed out the upgrades through cat. 10....so cat. 11 and all the 12 GTYs left to go....sending good vibes your way :goodvibes

Those of us on the 2 cruises before you have just gone through this - yes, some of our people got those multi-category Pixie-dusted upgrades; especially if they bought something above the GTY 12 (and the price difference between 12 and 11 was fairly substantial).

Your cruise reservation will continue to show your purchased category - you'll just have to look up the category that corresponds with your assigned cabin.

Congratulations on everyone who gets the bump. My sympathies to those who get jumped over.

We'll try to leave the CMs with some energy to handle you guys.

Lynne

Oh yeah - DCL gave me the offer to upgrade my cabin (bought Cat 12, assigned Cat 11) - the offer was for an oceanview - for the same $$ they are selling them.

I booked a cat 10 and was assigned 2105. I'm now showing on deck 6 with a cat 6. Want to believe I've had really good luck but too scared to believe it!
Fingers crossed!

It's exciting to see everyone is getting room assignments! We got ours last night and it looks like we were moved up a few decks, which was a surprise :goodvibes We usually stay on the lower decks and really enjoy it, but it will be fun to try the something different. We're on deck 7!

Ugh - paid too much for Cat 11 (vs 12) and still no upgrade. :sad1:

Hold tight...I think we've only seen 10s and up get upgrades. Hopefully the 11s and 12s will see some here soon. But hey, look at it this way, I'm in a 4, which we paid for (though did get the 20% off and OBC deal), so I don't imagine I'll be getting an upgrade (though would happily move to a suite if they want me to!). I wanted to be able to pick our room, and we really felt we wanted to the verandah, so I'm fine with it. Very happy to see others "moving on up" so to speak!

For those of you staying at the Barcelona Renaissance Airport Hotel (if anyone!), has anyone emailed them about scheduling a shuttle pick up at the port? I have a fax and phone, but no email. I'll just end up faxing it if I need to, but thought I'd ask.

Thanks for the supportive words! Will just have to hold on and see.

Just curious, the cat 11 costs so much more than a cat 12, why would you book a cat 11 when the chances are very high that if you booked a cat 12 your chances of at least getting a cat 11 are extremely high? Can you maybe downgrade to a cat 12 if you want to?

No body could know ahead of time how full or empty the ship would be, and therefore whether there would be upgrades or not.

That is true, but is cat 11 that much better than a cat 12 gty to pay almost double? I have no idea, just asking..

I can't speak for her reasons for booking a cat. 11, but I have noticed that many posters do not want to be on decks 1 or 2....they prefer the cat. 11 on the higher decks over a cat. 10 on the lower decks. Many have a fav cat. 11 room and book it cruise after cruise, because they like a certain location for whatever reason.

I would expect that DCL will be bumping up cat. 11 to 9 -7, since 10 got bumped to 6 and above. Things don't always follow an exact pattern though, so we shall see. I'm hoping all of our cat. 11 cruisers get ocean view....sending good vibes :goodvibes

It is true!! You really are in a cat. 6, same deck as me btw :). It is very rare for DCL to take away an upgrade once given....it could happen, but most likely will not. Feel free to dance :cool1:

Yes, you can really argue why would anyone pay for any category really..fact is that is what they want..i can see why someone would buy a cat 5, 6, 4, etc...but for ME, to pay almost double for a cat 11 vc cat 12 did not make sense..that's why I am asking if there are any real differences in the two as I have no idea other than being on a different deck..obviously disney thinks so as they charge a lot more for it. anyway, i hope everyone gets bumped a few cats.

downtick...I really see where you are coming from. I wouldn't pay twice as much to be able to pick my room. For that much savings, I would take the gamble - roll the dice, and see what DCL would give me.

Really had no idea about the different categories. I booked cat 11 via a TA when it was the kids stay free promotion. Which for the room and 2 of my kids, there is no real discernible difference between that price and the cat 12 price. For my 2nd room that my mother and my oldest will be staying, the kids stay free promo didn't work but the $999/pp would've made the most difference. Also, when TA's call disney cruise line, the disney people quote them on 11. I only found out about the ctgy 12 promo from the website. My in-laws just booked and their agent called disney cruise line to book, and the disney people only told them about ctgy 11. She had to call them out on the ctgy 12 promo. I talked to my TA and asked them about downgrading for the lower fare but she's saying that it wouldn't be that much of a difference - I'm thinking that she's either charging me a cancellation fee or she doesn't want to take a hit on the lower commission. So that's my luck and what I get for not knowing any better. I would never use a TA again.
