May 25, 2012 - Magical 8-night cruise - NYC to the Bahamas!

Hi everyone :wave2:

I've been enjoying the great weather, and trying to get out and walk when I get a chance. I think I'm going to try the "Castaway Cay 5K" next year on our cruise. I'm very out of shape right now, but I want to set that as a goal, and work up to it. 5K is only just over 3 miles, so I think that it's an attainable goal. :cool2:

Yesterday and today I took a walk around the parking lot and surrounding areas, during break. When the weather is this nice out, I don't even notice the walking that I'm doing. :sunny:

Have any of you previous DCL cruises done the CC 5k before?? I know that my DH will do it with me, and I'm hoping to get DS Robb and his DGF Chelsea to join us. Even if I just walk it, I'm determined to do it. :cheer2:

Here's a link to someone from the DIS who has done this, and he includes pics: http://www.disunplugged.com/2009/07/09/island-tour-on-your-feet-dcl-castaway-cay-5k/ :3dglasses

Anyone else interested in this? Like I said, I may just end up walking/jogging the entire thing, rather than run, but for me, walking it would be a great accomplishment. LOL

Hey everyone,

Figured I might as well post here since I haven't on the new thread yet. I think today (now yesterday lol) is 55 weeks! Me and DGF are still talking almost everyday about it! I know she was asking about the on-ship gym today, but I haven't been there.

Has anyone used it before that could maybe talk about how nice it is or what they have/don't have as far as machines go? Hopefully I'll have lost a few pounds myself by next year and will be joining her!

Thanks!

Terry, if you are looking for a gym buddy, I'm you girl, lol. However, on CC my fat butt will be on a floaty mat with drink in hand, Hehe.

Hi there! Mike and I go to the gym all the time on the ship. :)

It is well appointed. Lots of treadmills and bikes. A few ellipticals. Free weights, mats and yoga/pilates stuff, and a circuit for full weight training for pretty much every muscle group. My only pet peeve is that on disney folks aren't as vigilent in wiping down eqt after use (compared to other lines in my experience ) so do yourself a favor and wipe downanything before you use it.:scared1:

Good Morning everyone!!!

Terri- I am interested in doing the 5k. I did look at the thread, and it sounds good!

I guess this brings up another question- Do you want to lose weight before the trip? And if so, how much?

Me yes! and about 30lbs, I am already starting, and have lost 10. I try to watch what I eat and stay active! Well I try....

Sounds good! I will probably go to the gym a few times during the cruise to keep up with my walking/jogging, in preparation of the 5K. I've never been in the gym on a cruise ship before, so this will be a first! LOL

Patti, I definitely want to lose weight before the cruise. If I could lose 50 pounds, then I'd be thrilled. But whatever I lose between now and then will be good. lol YAY on losing 10 pounds already! I want to get serious about watching what I eat, sooner rather than later. I've been going for a walk every morning while at work. And some days after work, and most weekends, John and I walk together.

I have rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia, so some days I literally just can't move much. But I'm determined to push myself to do what I can do, and get into better physical shape. That's why I say that I'll probably walk/jog the 5K rather than run it. For me, just to walk/jog it will be an accomplishment. :)

Last night Robb, Chelsea, John, and I were talking about the cruise. I think that all 4 of us are going to attempt the 5k. In a few weeks I'll be hitting a milestone birthday, and I'm not in very good shape right now. I'm not getting any younger...lol...so I know that I HAVE to make a real effort to take better care of myself.

Anyway, I'm saying all this in case there's anyone out there who thinks they're not in good enough shape to attempt it. We have over a year to get walking/jogging/running! Start out slowly, and add a little more each time. I hope that we can keep each other motivated. I know that *I* could use the motivation sometimes! :upsidedow

55 weeks from today we sail with Captain Mickey and Captain Jack Sparrow! It doesn't get any better than that! pirate: ::MickeyMo

Good Morning everyone!!!!

Good afternoon :wave2: I almost said Good morning until I realized what time it was. LOL

I've been under the weather for the last few days, but this morning I had to go to Boston to give a deposition regarding the company that I work for. We got back to the office at around 12:30pm but they told me to go home since I wasn't feeling well, and they're paying me for the day anyway. So now, here I am. :surfweb:

Last week I did very well with my walking plan. I walked 4 days, and my feet and legs felt great. Now this week I'm not feeling well at all, and the only walking I've done so far has been a couple of blocks in Boston this morning. Oh well, there's still time. And as soon as I feel better I will be out there walking again! :tiptoe:

How is everyone doing?? I've been giving a little more thought to our pre-cruise plans but until Disney comes out with their hotel choices, I'm going to wait to make any definite plans. I think we're going to end up taking AmTrak from Massachusetts to Penn Station on the day before. Not sure where we'll stay yet. Then again, this cruise is over a year away, so even these preliminary plans could change. LOL

Hello, everyone! I'm doing alright. I have a week and a half before the semester ends, so I'm trying to get everything done. It's kind of stressful, but soon it'll be summer!:thumbsup2

Can't wait!! We will probably leave that day to board. We are only 2 hrs. away. But who knows!!

hi everyone!please count 3 more to the party!!!
my name is gabriela(35) ,and saling with me will be dh(vitor,37) and dd (matilde,5).
this is going to be our 3º disney cruise.
we are from Portugal, and sice we take our first cruise in the med we are dcl fans.
this will be our first time in new york, and we are planning to arrive at the 21,and tour the city, and then to relax we have the cruise:cool1:.
we are very excited to finaly go to castaway cay(just hope that we don´t miss that).
we can´t book our flights already, but i think we have a direct flight, from lisbon to newark, and we probably will be staying in the marriot marquis in times square.
i´m looking forward for this year of planing and to meet all of you, also we will love to participate in the fish extender trade.
have a nice day everyone!

Welcome, Gabriela! Glad to have you aboard! How exciting that you are from Portugal. The only part of Portugal we have been to was Madeira, on our last Disney cruise. Beautiful island, but I would love to see more of Portugal!

Mike and I are busy getting ready for our Princess cruise, which leaves ... next Thursday! It's a great 9-night itinerary out of NYC. Mike just booked our car service today, and I nearly fell over. Our r/t airfare to FL in September is cheaper than our car service to the port!! My goodness.

And, my fat butt is really upset with myself for going into this cruise looking like a full back. Next cruise ... I swear I'm going to drop 20-25 pounds. I have to. I'm disgusted with myself!

Hope everyone is well.

have fun in your cruise!!!i understand your pain,i too need to drop a lot of pounds:sad2.maybe in may next year we all look hot:cool2:

Count me in! I put our deposit down tonight! It will be me (Cristin) and my mom and we're from central NJ. This is our first Disney cruise and so excited they are sailing from NYC. We previously have only done RCCL out of NJ and WDW vacations.

Welcome Cristin and Mom! You will love the Disney cruise, there is nothing like it!! My in-laws have booked too and will be celebrating their 50th anniversary!!:love: Not to mention built-in babysitters!!!:cool1::cool1::cool1: I can't wait!!! We are doing a small trip to Washington this year in August to see the Phillies. What is everyone's plans for this year's summer vacation?

Welcome to Gabriela!! I too would like to drop 20-30 lbs before the trip. The extra luggage is killing me!!!!

Go Phillies!!

My big summer vacation will actually be after Labor Day with a Free Dining trip to the World. In the meantime, I have a quick girls weekend trip to DC to visit a friend of ours in July and some concert tickets to see Maroon5 this summer.
