May 2, 2009~~~Magical MAYniacs!~~~ 7 day Western....Updated, April 3,2009!!

Ok, things are looking up. :thumbsup2

The dolphin swim at Blue Lagoon is open to ages 6 and up. This means my DD6 will at least have an opportunity - unlike at Cozumel, where I was going to have to stay with her on the dock. Fingers crossed that 1) my DW agrees to the change and 2) we can actually book a reasonable time, since we are still scheduled for our Palo dinner at 6pm.

One thing we don't know is how long we will be docked at Nassau and how many other ships will be there at the same time. Perhaps Myth-USA has that last bit of information.

Anyone thinking of booking a room at the comfort suites? It's approximately $317 with tax, and you get all of the privledges of Atlantis guests, which costs approx. $490 through Disney for our family of 3:scared1:...now, the Disney one does include lunch, but between you and me, I don't plan on eating $173 worth of food!

For our 3 nite cruise in 2007, we did the Comfort Suites thing. Here is what I posted with a few added comments:

We enjoyed Atlantis via the Comfort Suites, but we couldn't fit it all in. A few things to consider:

1) Comfort Suites is cheaper than Disney, but be aware of ALL their hidden charges:
- Housekeeping gratuity ($4/nite/person 12 and older)
- Energy surcharge ($6/nite/person 16 and older)
- Resort Levy
- Gov't Tax
- Add Taxi fare + tip, both ways ($4/person x 2)

I reserved a room online for $266 with a AAA discount. My final bill at the hotel came to $286, after they added a few more items.

2) Time vs Value: If you plan to sleep late and arrive back at the ship early, Atlantis may not be the best value. Also, there are so many things that waste time (time getting off the ship, getting a taxi, walking, etc.).

- I read a cruise review from someone who took the water taxi to Atlantis. The taxi broke down, and it took 2 hours to get to shore. They had to be towed.
- I know of someone whose ship (another cruise line) arrived 2 hours late to Nassau. (add: And we don't know what time the Magic will dock or depart).

3) I haven't seen this myself, but someone reported Comfort Suites wanted a 2-day minimum stay. Be careful this isn't written somewhere on the reservation.

4) My decision to visit Atlantis was based largely on the cost of other excursions (which were also expensive) and my kid's ages. We didn't want to stay on the ship, which would have been the cheapest option. My 4 year old DD was too young for many of the excursions.

I apologize if this has been discussed but does anyone know what hours the Magic will be docked in Nassau? Thanks!

Day 2 - Nassau

We ate breakfast at Beach Blanket Buffet (deck 9 - DCL Wonder). As it turned out, we ate breakfast there every morning. We ate enough to hold us over until lunch.

We left the ship later than I would have liked (around 10:30am), but we have 2 small children who don't move very quickly. Our excursion was full access to Atlantis. Instead of paying Disney $438, we booked a room at the Comfort Suites Hotel for $283 total, using a AAA discount (they never asked to see the card).

When you get off the ship you'll walk down the dock, through a building to get out into the main part of town. Before we got to the building, some taxi drivers were waiting. We told a taxi driver that we were headed to the Comfort Suites - she was wearing an official looking document around her neck, so we figured she was legit. She told us to wait while she found some more people heading to Atlantis. We must have waited 10 minutes while she asked every passenger walking by if they were going to Atlantis. I was about to go find another taxi, when she finally found another someone. I had read that taxi fees were $4 per person - I asked her how much it cost to go to Atlantis and she confirmed the 4 dollars. Meanwhile, I was carrying what looked like a small suitcase, so I was stopped twice by Bahamian customs who asked me what was in the bag (We had a change of clothes, water bottles, sunscreen, camera, etc.).

Check-in/out at the Comfort Suites went smooth. No surprises. I got the access cards to Atlantis with no problem. (I laminated the paper access cards with self-adhesive, which was a suggestion that I had read about in the main forum).

We walked from the Comfort Suites to Atlantis. It wasn't too far. Once there, as it turned out, we ran right into kiddie pool area - water slides, a giant bucket that dumps every 5 minutes, and water guns. We found the towel hut where they issued us 6 towels and a wrist band.

Finally we were ready to start our excursion. But, it was getting close to noon. The problem was we had to be back on the ship to either catch the show (Golden Mickeys) or eat at the early dinner. We wouldn't find out till about 4:45pm that we had in fact been moved from late to first seating. We would need to time shower and change clothes. So, getting a late start and all the delays (taxi, hotel check-in, walking) we weren't really left with much time. I had planned to let the kids swim a while and then check out the aquariums.

Atlantis is a big place. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. It was busy, but that didn't bother us. We could have easily spent an entire week here.

The kids had fun at the kiddie pool and I rode the 'lazy' river - which wasn't so lazy on the rapids part. There is a fork in the river: one way to the rapids and the other to the "Power Tower." I never did find out what the power tower was.

Around 2pm, my kids were hungry. I had planned to bring some snacks from the ship, via room service, but that didn't pan out. I was thinking PBJ and chips. We ended up eating hamburgers/fries at a restaurant for $50. We finished eating after 3pm. There wasn't much time left to see the aquariums. We walked some more to see the Hammerhead sharks and some other fish, but we had no time left to visit the Dig.

We took a taxi back to the ship. We had to wait in line at the Nassau customs building. We were finally back on the ship about 4:30pm. Figuring we had time to relax, we laid around the stateroom. The sun tends to wear you out. Then the phone rang about 4:45pm. We were moved to early seating; "see you at 5:30pm." Oh S***, back to rush mode. We were 15 minutes late to dinner, at Animator's Palate.

Expedia rooms are $176.....I would need two rooms. PLus the two little ones are two small for the big slides.......I think need to measure. Need to be 48'

Admission only
110 for adults
80 for children under 4
Subject to availablity

Zerog (Randy)-Thanks for the info...I have to take it all in and discuss all of our options with DH. Atlantis also offers a beach visit that includes the aquarium and lunch for about $219 for our family. (not sure if the water slides are worth that much more) There is also a sea lion excursion too which seems fun. Ah...decisions, decisions....

Ok my ignorance and having never been to Nassau. I would love to go walk around the Atlantis resort. Do you have to purchase an excursion to do this or can you just go on your own. If you can go on your own, how do you get there. Sorry if this seems silly, but I do not know anything about Nassau and am quickly trying to learn. TIA
We stopped in Nassau on the "cruise-that-is-the-reason-why-DH-will-never-set-foot-on-a-cruise-ship-again." You do have to pay if you want to enjoy Atlantis' many wonderful pools and slides. If you don't, you will get chased off property. There is a beach there, too, which is free. Just make sure you are clear and direct about going there.

Sigh. I've got to admit that I'm not thrilled about the Nassau stop. I would have preferred either another day at sea or Castaway Cay. However, zeroG, I'm going to talk to Emilie and see if she wants to do the Dolphin Encounter, so you may see us there.

My4bratz.....I don't see the $176 on expedia...all I see is $198, which is still almost $70 pre tax cheaper than what I found. Man...this decision is getting harder and harder!

Belize would have been nice....but hey! At least it is not Mexico. I personally do not like Nassua. Very very dirty. The last time we went with Disney we basicaly stayed on the ship. We had our hair done.....braided. DD loved it! I personally hated it.....my head burned. To make matters work I was pregnant and did not know it.....not only pregnant but pregnant with an ectopic that was ready to rupture.......

Ohh Well! We are celebrating our anniversary....two blessed childrens birthday and WHAT the heck! My birthday is in June and I think I want to celebrate early with all of my new friends! We can now say that we internet dated and have been through alot together!!:rotfl:

The whole situation really just makes me laugh. :lmao: Everything was going so smooth. Then just a few days from sailing and we get all this craziness. Still, it's all good! :thumbsup2

We had our DD's hair braided on the ship last cruise. The 'older' girl sitting next to my DD cried the whole time. :scared: I guess it hurts (I wouldn't know as I am almost bald). :rolleyes1 DD wasn't very happy during the procedure either.

It is advised that if you let the ladies braid your hair in Nassau, bring your own comb! Also, be very clear about the price. :hippie:

Zerog, my family did the Dolphin Encounter at the Blue Lagoon and had a blast. I took pictures of them and was able to enjoy the dolphins too even though I did not pay for the encounter. I attached a photo of my husband with my two younger boys( at the time they were ages 3 and 7), my older teenage son and the boy in the green shirt is his friend. Everyone of all ages had a wonderful time. I know your family will too.

Weekend weather looks picture-perfect

MELBOURNE — It’s shaping up to be a glorious weekend for Space Coast residents ready to head out to the beach or stay close to the backyard for a quick grill-session.

“There won’t be any records set, but temperatures maybe a bit above average,” said Tim Sedlock, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Melbourne.

“It’s just going to be a nice day.”

The warm weather – with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s – is being tempered by the offshore sea breeze, he added. And while the area is in the midst of its traditional dry season, forecasters say there is a slight chance for rain Friday and heading into the weekend.

“It looks very remote, less than 20 percent,” Sedlock said.

Forecasters also say that local beaches could also see some rip currents and swells as residents head out for the weekend.

  • Today: Isolated sprinkles before 11 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a high near 83. East wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
  • Tonight: Isolated sprinkles after 2am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 67. East wind around 10 mph.
  • Thursday: Isolated sprinkles before 11 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a high near 82. East wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
  • Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. East southeast wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
  • Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. East southeast wind between 5 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
  • Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 67. Southeast wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
  • Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Southeast wind around 5 mph.

Great Photo Darlene
I just read some good reviews on Tripadvisor about the Blue Lagoon Island. I only hope we can book the excursion onboard and that the Magic will be at Nassau long enough for us to enjoy it.
Hope to meet you on the ship. Just 3 more days till we sail.

Zerog,mjlewis,my4bratz- Please excuse the fact this is most likely an obvious question, but I'm assuming you would book a hotel room in Nassau just to take advantage of the Atlantis properties?:confused3

Passes to Atlantis for the water park are $110 for an adult; If you stay at the other hotel, admission to the water park is included for I believe 2 adults/2 children. We however would be in need of two rooms at the $180 rate per room. Just not going to be an option....I would rather go there with a kids stay free package some time.....

Good night to all! I am beat up, physically, emotionally and the stress level is out of control! Love and hugs to all! I cannot wait to all be together. This is like weaird internet dating.....:lmao::lmao::lmao:

No question here is too obvious. We're all family. :grouphug:

Yes - we booked the room only to get full access to Atlantis. This was a lot cheaper than booking Atlantis thru DCL. Ok, we did enter our room for 5 minutes in order to use the restroom and to steal the soap/shampoo. :rolleyes1

Totally something my husband would say!

I think we are going to pass on Atlantis this time. We may go ahead and do the Sea Lion encounter at the Blue Lagoon. It looks cute:-).

I called DCL and asked for the hours in Nassau are set for 8AM and all aboard 7PM. Suppose to arrive in port at 6:30AM and leave at 7:30PM. For shore excursions they reminded me to go to deck 3. I hope this helps some.

Where would we be without you? You are the best!! WE LOVE YOU DAVE!!!
