May 19 - 24, 2014 San Diego to Vancouver

I just cancelled a May 23 4:30 pm swedish massage if anyone wants it. I think it was previously all booked up.

I just booked it up for my wife! She wanted to do that but it was all sold out. Perfect! Thanks for the heads up!

:woohoo:

Does anyone know what's happening Friday night? We have dinner at Palo booked, but I would hate to miss anything special!!!

The last night is usually the "Till We Meet Again" thing with the characters in the atrium, but they traditionally do it twice so that both dinner times can see one show. I make it a point to see this as all the characters are together.

Just make sure you have any luggage you want them to take off the ship for you out by the scheduled time, I think 10:00, but your Navigator will tell you for sure, don't depend on me to have it right. :)

Cross posted on the FB page as well. My SIL and I are planning on spending the day before we set sail at the San Diego Zoo--I guess a Disney trip without a lot of walking just wouldn't be right, :rotfl2:, so we are looking for some guidance. Here is what I posed on FB--

San Diego locals, some of us are looking for information on the San Diego Zoo, not basics like hours, cost, etc., but recommendations on what to make our priorities. In looking at the map this zoo looks huge. I have been before but it has been 20+ years, so I recall very little. It looks as if the zoo is not doable in one day, at least for slower folks like me, so what do we need to make we do not miss? Better places to eat, good shopping? Thanks in advance for your help and ideas.
:goodvibes
Not sure if anyone got back to you, but if you want a good overview of the zoo, take the bus tour - you see most of the park and can then decide what you want to walk to. You can also do a "hop on and off" bus to get around between - the zoo is not that large but its got a lot of hills, and luckily several escalators :)

I will be on the cruise with my DH and DS (5)

Thanks, that suggestion was given, and one I plan to take, but I have also heard that there are some exhibits that you need to get to early if you want to see them--like the pandas, or feeding the giraffes, etc. Would taking the bus make us not get to these exhibits in time? I really want to see animals that we don't normally see at our zoo or at Animal Kingdom in WDW.

The giraffe feeding is usually just on the weekends at 12:00 I think. The tickets go on sale earlier though, maybe 11:00. The giraffes aren't too far from the front entrance so you'll want to make sure you get over there to get tickets. There's a little orange shack near the giraffes to get tickets. They may only take cash - I don't exactly know. They do sell out. You get 3 biscuits for $10 and get to choose which giraffes you want to feed based on the ones that walk over to the feeding area. They are usually very excited to get the treats. If you can make it to the pandas at the zoo opening, you won't have to wait long - but they are located much farther away from the front. The koalas and rhinos are near the giraffes so there's plenty to see while waiting to feed the giraffes. Hope this helps! Double check the times though.

Hi Everyone,

I know that Monday is still a few days away, but there are wildfires near and close to San Diego which are currently affecting the freeways.

Here is the link to check freeway closures and delays

We were originally going to stop at Carlsbad on our drive down, so in case you were going to do the same here is the Carlsbad.gov website as well

Obviously the situation will change by Monday, but I know I'll be checking the wildfire situation to see if we need to drive down earlier to change our plans. We had considered going to the SD Safari park on Sunday, but we'll likely not do that now.

Travel safe!

Yes it does, thank you so much for sharing that information. :goodvibes

I am so glad we didn't decide to go to Anaheim first and drive down to San Diego. Those of you that will be traveling, as Lilipooh said, travel safe and do stay in touch with the news.

Does anyone know what time we can get off the ship in Vancouver at Ballantyne Pier? I'm trying to arrange pick up.

What kind of pick up? Family or a taxi? I need to figure out how we're getting to our hotel after we get off the ship.

Family. We are from the Lower Mainland area. I've just heard that they get you off the ship pretty quick, but my family has an hour drive to come get us.

We rented a car. I think Robert has to go to the other pier to get the car then come back and get us.

Usually it's all off about 9. They will give you a breakfast ticket the night before with your breakfast time and place. If I remember correctly you can disembark around 7 but this is assuming they are all about the same.

A quick fly by post

welcome and see everyone onboard

Marla and Kara

:)

Finishing up the packing and heading to bed early. I have to pick up my husband from work at 5:45am and we catch the 7:00am flight out tomorrow morning.

I'm not sure what time we'll be getting to the port Monday morning. What's the earliest arrival time? We'll most likely be wearing our Disney Dream Maiden Voyage gear on Monday, so if you see us say hello! We'll see everyone on board Monday! Safe travels everyone.

Don't forget your passports!

I just remembered mine--yikes. Glad it wasn't in the safe deposit box. That could have been ugly. I keep thinking of this as a CA coast cruise, forgetting the flight back from Vancouver, LOL.

I just started packing and somehow have managed to pull out 8 pairs of shoes for a 5 day trip. I was never very good at math, but somehow that doesn't seem to add up :)

Safe travels everyone! See you at 3 on Monday.

In San Diego and all is great! We're hanging out with my sister in law and nephew! Can't wait for tomorrow morning. See y'all on board!
