May 18, 2013 Magic EBTA Part Two - From Tejas to España

Morning Everyone,

We awoke to another late dusting of snow this morning, can't wait for the warmer weather to come to the north of Scotland.

I was thinking does anyone know if they will be doing a firework display, for the arrival of the Magic back in the Med?on the evening of 31st May. I know it's possible for the ship to get from Gibraltar and then the day at sea into Barcelona early. Anyone know if this is the norm for EBTA's ?

You can check out the previous arrivals on You Tube.

I no longer bring traditional books - I utilize eBooks or audiobooks - especially since I'm a reading addict - I'll download 20 books for my 5 weeks - I know - don't say .........

I use an e-reader too. I've been stockpiling new releases from my favorite authors for the past few months on my Kindle. I should probably have around 20 as well. Hopefully, that will be enough. ;)

Evening Everyone,

Just in case you haven't had enough alcohol on the trip over the Atlantic, the Blandy's wine lodge have spaces available on a tour of the winery, these are offered at a very reasonable 5.50 euros. Just email Rita Azevedo

pubrel@madeirawinecompany.com

I know some spaces are available at 14:30

;)

Thank you for the recommend. We did get two reseved slots for the 14:30 tour. :cool1:

I recently got an e-reader after not being to sure about them. I love the feel of books and have turned the spare room into a library. But I am in love with it. Since I travel so much for work, it is nice to just carry it instead of a bunch of books.

My issue is now that I was a big nonfiction reader but got hooked on a fiction series. My friend dropped off a bunch of books in the series and the next 3 to read are in paperback so I don't want to buy them in the electronic form since I have them in paperback but I don't want to carry the paperback version. Looks like I am going to take a break from the series and buy some books for the kindle to take with me (I got an amazon GC for easter). Any one have any suggestions?

I have also been stock piling all of my new magazines that have been coming in. I love flipping through magazines by the pool!

If you go to pixelofink dot com you can sign up to receive an email of free e-books. They send out a daily email and there's usually a selection of several books to download. I've gotten quite a few from there and free is even better!!!

Thanks, just checked it out and download two free nonfiction books! My husband will love you! He hates my reading habit and the cost. He is a huge non-reader. I tried to get him to read the path between the seas before we went on the EBPC cruise and I think he lasted 1 chapter. And that is the only time I have seen him read.

You may also want to try bookbub dot com! My collection is coming along nicely. Took awhile to get used to an electronic reader but now I don't leave home without it.

Looking at my FE List I see many have added their stateroom numbers but there are still some blank. Are some families still waiting to hear from Disney?

I believe so. The people who booked IGT, OGT or VGT won't know until 2 weeks prior to sailing usually. Those who booked a specific category GTY (such as a 10C GTY) have been learning their cabin numbers recently.

We talked about it a while back, so some cobwebs on my memory cells... but I think we were originally assuming when closer to land / disembarkation, but someone mentioned they can occur anywhere (such as on Pirate Night that we are in the midst of the crossing). Did the fireworks happen on both the 2010 and 2011 EBTA crossings as a welcome to the Med? Or just the first one? I can't remember from my readings. I know we have a few who have done one or both crossings and might recall :)

There were no fireworks to my knowledge upon arrival in Barcelona in 2011. If there were, we missed it. We did have fireworks on Pirate night. I believe we arrived in Barcelona in the middle of the night?!?

In 2010, there were fireworks upon our arrival at Barcelona.

What shows will we get on board? On the 3 and 4 night Dream cruises there is something on in the theatre every night, but on the 7 night Fantasy cruises I seem to recall there were 'dark' nights. So what's the plan for 14 nights on the magic?

And also, whilst I think about it, how will dining work? Will we get a 7 night menu repeated or is there some kind of special 14 night menu?

Paul

I have been on a few 14 or 14+ day cruises with DCL - so far I have always had the menu repeat, not in the same order. As someone said, seeing the Princess dinner on a casual night was odd. With two semi formal, one formal and one pirate, the sail-away (welcome aboard) and 'til we meet again that covers 6 of the 14. I wouldn't worry - you are always allowed to order from the other dining rooms. I suggest that if you are concerned about the variety - check out each dining room dinner menu during the day. Make notes of what you want to try that isn't in YOUR dining room and very nicely ask the head server if you can be accommodated. Don't bother asking for things from Palo. They are no longer allowed to bring the souffles down to the main dining rooms. (too many were asking and it became an issue I heard).

We had fireworks in 2005 arriving in Barcelona, but I've not taken another TA since. Usually that is reserved for the first time in port for a ship. The Magic is berthed in Barcelona every other summer...not a new deal!

On my long DCL cruises (EBTA, WBTA, EBPC, and WBPC), we had the 7 menus from the 7-night cruises, augmented with some new menus. A couple of the new menus had the Ducky Williams artwork prepared just for that cruise for the special merchandise. Other new menus were a debut for the upcoming cruise season.

But many dishes were repeated, just with a new name. So one night the prime rib might be called Royal Court Prime Rib, and on another night it's called California Gold Prime Rib.

YMMV

I am a bit bored so I decided to see how many staterooms were left on our ship according to the website. Inside cabins show there are 35, window 32, and veranda 24. I am not sure if those are the real numbers or not but were the cabins that showed were available.

The website does not show all available cabins. Instead, it shows a maximum of eight cabins per category.

So, for example, there are four Oceanview categories: 9D, 9C, 9B and 9A. Each category shows eight cabins, for a total of 32. There are likely many, many more cabins than that available.

I have send out emails and a few people didn't responded yet:
  • Msaxon
  • Tubbsteruk
  • binkytell
  • Aunt Gram

Could you please respond asap to the email???

Thanks

OMG, is that all? Where is time going??!

I have spent this weekend ill with a throat infection, which has now turned into a horrible cold as well.

However, I am a very very happy Mummy, as my DD14 has just returned from a 12 day expedition to Romania where she was trekking and doing community work. She is exhausted and was crying her eyes out when she got off the bus, which set me off, but has had a wonderful time despite missing her family.

She is now tucked up in bed, and won't be doing anything tomorrow until she has had a nice long shower, as she tells me in 12 days she only had 3 showers (gross!!!)! I think they were all as whiffy as each other when they got off the bus - would have hated to be a passenger on their plane!
