May 18, 2013 Magic EBTA Part Two - From Tejas to España

Anyone have any advice on getting from Hobby Airport to the Port of Galveston on the 18th? I wish we could go to Galveston earlier but our flight gets us to Hobby at 9:55 PM on the 17th, and I think our party would rather get a hotel by the airport. There are three of us btw.

Any help is appreciated! We really jumped into this at the last minute.

We are driving into the Hobby airport area the night before as well. (We are leaving our car at a park and fly hotel and returning to Hobby in June.) Our travel agent got us Disney transfers from the Hobby Airport on Sat. morning. There has been some conflicting info as to whether DCL would offer transport from Hobby, but when our TA called they said as long as we met them at the airport between 10-10:30am it would be okay. The cost is $30 per person through Disney.

Hello everyone!

My name is Ryan (23), and I, along with my sister (20) and mother (forever 29), will be sailing this cruise as of today. My dad will then be joining us in Barcelona to go on the first Med cruise. 3 weeks on the Magic sounds perfect to me, and I just wanted to check in and say hello to all my fellow cruisers. I hope your cruise planning is going well!

Best wishes ~ Ryan

Maybe it's to protect the seas and fish.

When they have a balloon drop in the atrium, don't the CMs pop all the balloons afterwards?

Woody

That's what I wondered. I told him we were not planning on releasing it at sea or anything and it would be popped and placed in trash when we left, but we couldn't bring it onboard anyway.

We are getting into Hobby at 10:40 PM on the 17th, and staying at the Hampton Inn near Hobby airport (can use my Hilton points). They have an airport shuttle to pick you up/drop you off the next morning.

That being said, we have set up Disney transportation for the three of us from Hobby on Saturday morning 5/18. There have been conflicting reports that Disney transportation is being used at Hobby, but I have called and my TA has called to confirm that they will be doing it from Hobby through this cruise (discontinuing it when they sail again from Galveston in the fall).

This was our best option for three people ($90). We couldn't get a one way car rental or limo for much less than that. And we would need to rent a car seat for my daughter - Enterprise could not confirm I would even get one, and I didn't want to lug one with us for just this part of the trip.

It is likely one of those instances where it's easier for DCL to simply prohibit an activity than to monitor it. Keeping a balloon in a cabin (like you planned) would be harmless. But how about the next guest?

That's like the photography policy in the Walt Disney Theatre. On all but my latest Disney cruise, they allowed photos, but prohibited flash and video. I was fine with that, since I liked to take one or two photos just to help remember the day's events.

But recently, when I was on the Fantasy, DCL prohibited all video and photography. By doing so, it was probably easier for DCL to enforce.

We are staying at the Hampton too and taking the DCL transport from the airport Sat. morning!! I bet we'll be traveling to the ship together!! :cool1:

Thank you! This is great. I don't have a travel agent. Do you think I could contact Disney on my own and arrange this? I'll have to call them tomorrow to try.

This is starting to be a little comedic. Since Air Canada changed my flights, we called up the limo company we're using to let them know our arrival time is changing. They had no reservation for us and no record of our request even. However, they hit our credit card within a couple days of us registering. But, they straightened it out within a few hours after getting the IT guys involved.

What's funny is that the only reason I checked the flights was checking in for DCL. If I hadn't needed the flight info who knows when/if I would have noticed. And the only reason we checked with the limo company was the Air Canada flights changing. We would not have checked on that. Serendipity or bad luck, I can't decide. Lol

I totally hear ya. I had just missed that somewhere in the rules of what we could or could not bring onboard. Took me by surprise. Would have never bought her one had we known. Learned something new on that cruise :thumbsup2

We had a flight booked for June 9th that we used miles for and it had us fly Air Canada. We had the same problem. Luckily, United was wonderful in sorting it all out. They even let us cancel our three of our flights with no penalty.

Similarly, we only discovered this because we wanted to book this cruise. If we had just done our original Mediterranean cruise I don't know when we would have noticed.

That is all just craziness!! Air Canada should at least upgrade you to first class ;) And I will buy you your first drink at Tremont Rooftop Bar :thumbsup2

:crazy2:

I think it's great luck that you're finding this out ahead of time :thumbsup2. It's a complete PITA, but imagine if you hadn't needed to check on this stuff? Now THAT would be bad luck. You should buy a lottery ticket.
