May 18, 2013 Magic EBTA Part Two - From Tejas to España

Nancyelew: you have got 3 cabins under your name, is that still correct? Do you have any cabin numbers yet?
Txcnm: I've got you with 2 different cabin numbers next to each other with Mary in both. Is this correct?

That's like us as well... We are in two cabins but only listed the one that will have the fe hanging outside.

For those who get cabin upgrades or their assignment at port that is why the whiteboard will be so helpful. I don't plan on an upgrade but will check it for any changes on our gifts / candy cabins before starting deliveries .

ROOM #'S FOR SECRET MICKEY'S

Hello Secret Mickey's,

Some of you haven't gave me your roomnumbers yet.
A part is IGT/OGT/VGT but also a part said they were GTY and those rooms should be assigned.

Please let me know asap your roomnumber when you receive or have your room #.

In case you get your room number at check in or if you upgrade at check in or your roomnumber changes during the cruise:
Please come to room 7007 and put your name, your DIS name and your room # on the eraser board or send me an message with the wavephone.
So i can let your Secret Mickey know where they need to deliver the gifts to.

Thanks!!!!

Nancy does have 3 cabins taking part in the exchange :thumbsup2

How do you access decks A, B and C?

Woody

Sometimes they may have a below decks tour, that said I haven't heard of one in a long time, we have a close friend who lives near us and is basically family and she puts the papers in a takes us down to see the area where she lives, not the engines room though. Hopefully, I will get a chance to get our friend into the diningroom some nights when she has sorted her shifts. The main throughfare is known as the I95 and the crew mess is nothing like ours, very basic.

TBH I had to go look it up as I have never heard of it, so I see it's in Suffolk. Not near me I'm afraid but happy to help where I can.

According to Google Maps, it's 100 miles from me, which I guess in US terms puts it right on my front door :)

100 miles that IS almost front door ;) We have 128miles to get to the airport. From us to Dallas there are approximately 400 miles and it's faster for us to :drive: there than Fly ;) If we can drive in less than 8 hours, than we drive because it's not only cheaper but also faster... =D

Trying to finalize things

Please check the first page and be sure you are on the activities that you want to participate in (Bunco and/or Scavenger Hunt/s. Could you please email (snreed@verizon.net) your cabin number so I can contact you with any last minute changes. (Cabin number will not be displayed on first page)

The following info is needed as well as cabin number:

***Bunco***May20--1 PM

Cabinfever2013--number and names of players
BigHugsForEeyore--number and names of players

1 player - Sarah. No cabin # yet as OGT :)

The train service is definitely not so great heading that direction - Looks like you might need to go to Cambridge (about 90 mins from Central London) and Taxi or similar - As for a coach or a bus I am afraid I have no idea.

There is a good train for Heathrow into London, but that will go to Paddington which is the west side of London - I guess Cambridge trains will go from Kings Cross which it North (east) London - You can tube between but not directly, so changes are needed.

The best place to check train information (and book tickets if you need it) would be at www.thetrainline.com - Train travel in the UK is expensive and booking ahead of time can save you a fair bit - Be care, the most heavily discounted fares are for specific trains only.

All in all I would opt for car hire if you can - I have no idea how cost effective that is for you.

I think it would be around 2 hours (maybe slightly longer) to that area. (But then again I am 2 hours from Heathrow anyway).

Most places in the UK have some History so you can find something to do there if that's what you are wondering - The most obvious to me would be Cambridge University; one of the two (some say three) Ivy League equivalnet in the UK. I was there myself a couple of years ago and it's a nice place to walk around and see the sights.

There is obviously a ton of stuff you can do in the Centre of London but it comes down to whether you want to meet up with your family

Thanks! I have to put everything in relation to London when looking it up, and we are assuming to rent a car because public transportation is more limited in that area (correct ?) ...

Would a few days stop over in that area be feasible you think? We are also wanting to then hop over to Germany (fly), spend about 3-5 days, then fly to Barcelona for WBTA 2014.

Marriott Kensington
How about Heathrow Express (15 minute train) to Paddington and then a 10 minute (3 mile) taxi ride? - I think thats the quickest option, maybe not the most private/comfortable.

For details on Heathrow Express see here https://www.heathrowexpress.com/

You will also find a load of Black Cab (Taxi) at Heathrow ready to take you into London, although jumping in those could be more expensive than pre-booking like you were planning to do.

BTW, Nice area (but be prepared for expensive eateries and coffee houses) :)

Driving for 8 hours is basically unheard of in the UK - Some do it, most wouldn't even contemplate it - I baulked at the idea of driving from DFW to Galveston which is why I am flying to IAH first :)

Actually just checked, Cambridge train is from Liverpool Street which is pretty much East London.

My favorite saying about living in California is that we drive to our cars. I wouldn't think twice about driving 400 plus miles in a day.

Has anyone actually taken the train from Paris Austerlitz to DLP? We were told that we need to cross a bridge to go the the Nord station and I am concerned about moving suitcases if there stairs etc. involved.

Plus, not to mention that there have been a lot of thievery going on in Paris.

My other option is to rent a car and leave it at the DLP train station.

Anyone?

Is it the pre-arrival guide where people are seeing linked dining and who they are sitting with? I can't see anything on mine, so does that mean I haven't been linked (or no-one wants to sit with us :rotfl2:)?

Today I bought my travel insurance, a job I have been meaning to do for ages, although with my various bladder/neck/tooth ailments it has been tricky getting the timing right! Anyway, all sorted now, and cost me a whole extra £3 to declare the conditions and get them covered, a bargain I feel!

My favorite saying about living in California is that we drive to our cars. . .
Reminds me of the scene in "L.A. Story" where Steve Martin drives about 20 feet in his driveway to get the mail.
