~~~ May 16, 2009 ~~~ Western Magic ~~~
Hi everyone! Hope you have been doing well, work has been busy for me...
I definitely want to participate on the fish extender...now I have to make or find something that can work and hang off the fish. I like option 2 as well - being spontaneous is much better than having a schedule - which I want to get away from on holidays.
Phil - congrats on booking the cruise! we are wait listed for early seating as well!:banana:
Steve - thanks for the good advice on the dolphin excursion - we probably won't do it this time, but we might do it in the future.
I guess I better be thinking about excursions so that we can book those when it is time....
has anyone been to the Tulum Ruins - is that worth the possible seasick ferry ride over to mainland Mexico?
:dance3:
Let me try this again...after typing a full message I hit some random key that made it disappear.....
Anyway, I think the overwhelming choice is Option 1. No need for anyone to have another stress added to their lives. I'll review all the posts again put together a spreadsheet of everyone that wants to participate in the FE group. If you haven't already stated if you want to participate in the FE group let me know and I'll add you to the list.
We got our excursion packet this weekend and after looking through everything I just didn't see anything that makes me what to get up at 3:00am to try and book. We will probably rent an electrical car on Key West. That looked really cool and then we can just drive around the area and do whatever looks interesting. For anyone that has done the cruise before has anyone done the Semi-Submarine on Grand Cayman? I'd love to see some of the wildlife and a boat tour sounds interesting. Anyone read any good trip reports that really describe the excursions?
Palo brunch on the other hand is something that we really want. I think we will shoot for either Monday or Thursday so we don't mess up with the FKLP tour on Key West.
Has anyone logged in their cruise on the Disney website? I did a long time ago, added in our flights and then just went back into make some adjustments (slight changes to our flights) and the site doesn't recognize my log in. SO frustrating...
Anyway, I hope everyone has a great week!
Jane
Jane,
I think it's option 2 that everyone wants (the one where things are randomly passed out).
To All: While I can't bring myself to cancel the cruise yet, we are probably not going to be able to go. My husband received the "handbook" for his new job last night and it states that he can only take 1/2 of his vacation days before June, which would be 1/2 of 1 week. Thus...not enough to make the trip. Since he officially starts the new job on Monday, I'm not going to cancel until he looks a little further into this. However, this job is more important than a vacation at this point! So, we'll see.... I'm REALLY bummed!
If any of you have family/friends wanting the rate, let me know. That way if I have to cancel, we can time things so that your family member can get the "deal."
I am so sorry to hear that....wonder if they would make an exception for him?
That's what we are hoping for. We don't even care about him getting paid that week, just as long as he can go and return home still employed! He's always reluctant to ask for anything in a job, so I'm sure we won't know until the end of next week or so. He's a large corporation IT guy, now living in a relatively small town. Getting a permanent job here has been rough (and that's with taking a $23k pay cut), so he cannot afford to give up this opportunity.
We'll see though. I think we are probably just delaying the inevitible, but hopefully I'm wrong!
that really stinks. We had to cancel our September 07 cruise and re scheduled for Sept 08. I know how bad that feels. I hope you guys can go. usually if you already had a trip planned they will honor the trip with a new job. but I guess that is out the window in this economy.
so is anyone staying at the Radisson on Friday night? I was thinking of Thursday and Friday but looking into Space Center tickets, I would rather spend that on excursions on the trip.
DH and I will be staying at the Radisson on Friday night before the cruise. We are thinking about going to the Space Center on the Saturday that we return from the cruise and staying at the Radisson again on Saturday night.
Don't forget that the Space Shuttle will be launching on Friday May 15th. It will very busy then and may be hard to get to Kennedy Space Center.
Date: May 15 +
Mission: STS-127
Launch Vehicle: Space Shuttle Endeavour
Launch Site: Kennedy Space Center - Launch Pad 39A
Description: Space shuttle Endeavour will deliver the exposed facility of Japan's Kibo laboratory to the International Space Station.
I think that I saw that it would launch at 7:00 PM.
well let's hope it is not delayed or moved. We were lucky enough to see a night launch off the Magic. The captain stayed in port for us to see it.
I am also in for the option 2, that sounds just perfect.
We are also considering staying at Animal Kingdom the night before the cruise or the Radisson.. that would so great to be able to see a launch!
Wow, really????? DH would LOVE to see that!!!! I'll have to look into what we have to do to see a launch. I can't wait to tell him!!!! :yay:
How cool would that be to see a launch! I'm really thinking we'll need to find a hotel for Friday night near the port! Besides krishouse, tigger2002, and shases, what are everyone else's plans for hotel & supper on Friday? Seeing the post about different restaurants around the port made me wonder what everyone else is planning on doing. We haven't decided on what hotel to stay at yet, but I know it'll be near the port--especially now with a launch! My mom will be so excited when she hears that!
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! Hopefully your DH will have a simpathetic boss that will let him take the days without pay.
Actually, I'd love it if it were delayed just one day. We'll be at WDW on the 15th and I've always wanted to see a launch. Wouldn't that be cool to watch it from the ship?
Jane
watching it from the ship is awesome!
I think I am booking the Radisson and we'll probably eat at Rusty's that Friday night.
I'm sure it would be awesome! I'm thinking I should probably book a hotel near the port very soon because I'm sure they'll start filling up because of the launch. We're maybe thinking of the Radisson, too, or Residence Inn--not sure yet...better do some research ASAP! ;) I saw Rusty's mentioned several times on that Cape Canaveral restaurants thread! We're also big fans of BBQ, so Slow & Low might be something we'd have to check out! (slurp!) :thumbsup2
I'm going to try to get some more info about the launch & where the best view is at from my uncle. He lives in Cocoa and works for NASA, so he should have all that good "inside" info! I don't have a whole lot of contact with him, but I know he'd be willing to help. BTW, my mom was in tears when I told her!! I'm glad we hadn't booked our flights yet because we were considering a late afternoon arrival on Friday, but we just might need to do an early departure flight out of Omaha so we don't cut ourselves short on time to get into a great viewing spot! :yay:
