Check out this site for viewing the Space Shuttle Launch. http://www.launchphotography.com/Shuttle_Launch_Viewing.html

There are several photos and videos of the launch from different areas. It will be VERY crowded from some of the more popular areas. You should be able to see it from most anywhere in that area, just not too close.

There are also several videos on YouTube from various locations.

Have you guys used Google Maps "street level" view. I know that Siesta Key, FL and the main highway in Grand Island Nebraska are on there. It is pretty neat to "drive" down the streets.
My BIL just moved to LA, and when he was back for Christmas, he showed us his apt & neighborhood on Google Maps. He tried to find our actual house for us here in GI, but it wasn't showing up, so I just assumed the whole town wasn't part of it, but I'll have to check out what is! Thanks! :goodvibes

OMG!! If you go to Grand Island, NE, and click on the JCT Hwys 281 & 30 picture, the building in the background is Justin's business!! It's the tan building with the large overhead door! This is the most recent addition that they put on a few years ago, and the original building is just to the left of it. It's Dramco Tool Company! :yay:

Ashley and I are VERY excited for the launch!:banana: I cant believe it, we have always wanted to see one launch! Out trip is getting better and better!!:cheer2:

HI there,
We have officially booked at the Radisson at the Port, just have to figure out our best place to be in order to actually view the launch, what a cool experience, my boys are over the moon!!!
Kristin

hello there!!

We have just finished booking one room at the "RiverSide Inn" to view the launch!!:cheer2: This vacation is going to be amazing!!!:hippie:

If only it was sooner!! It is currently -24 degrees C. here in Ottawa!!! I am dreaming of sunshine and warm weather!:yay:

life has been crazy around here.
so excited to see so many new families joining us! can't wait to meet all of you! This is going to be such a fun cruise and a terrific group of cruisers!

We made our final payment for the cruise tonight.
we've booked the Radisson at the Port for the night before the cruise and we are so thrilled to hear about the Endeavor launch!

We won't have a car - anyone know if we can see the launch from the hotel? Or if not, the best way get to a spot where we can see/photograph it? Looks like the Space Center might be a nightmare that day.

I'm spending the day doing a TON of laundry so I thought I'd check out the boards for more info on fish extenders. There is a thread that had some great information not only on how to make fish extenders, but how some groups have distributed the items and what items were given/recieved.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1219607

Various ways to distribute:

Option 1
************************************
All DIStag participants will purchase a small gift from their hometown to give to all taggers. We will receive a spread sheet made up by your's truly, at our first DISmeet (time and place still to be determined). In addition to the spread sheet you will receive some sort of magnet. The list will look something like this:

JLDSMD Jeff Cabin 1234
cntkg1 Nancy Cabin 6576
oybolshoi Brenda Cabin 6580
LindyLoo Linda Cabin 4321 etc.....

You will start with the person listed directly below your name. Deliver your "gift" and leave the magnet at the top of their cabin door. Should your "gift" be too large to fit in the 'fish mail holder', locate any Stateroom Host/ess and request they take your gift directly into the room. When someone leaves you a gift and the magnet, deliver your surprise and received magnet to the next person on your list-and so on. When you get to the last person 'participating' at the bottom of the page (LindyLoo in our example)...start at the top of the list (JLDSMD). Continue until you get to the person listed above YOUR name.

So if I've still managed to confuse you, this is the skinny of it all...

Jeff takes one of his gifts and his magnet. He tags Nancy's door with the magnet and puts his gift on the 'fish mail holder'. Now he waits until someone tags his door. (In our example LindyLoo would start with Jeff). He will take that new magnet and a new gift and tag Brenda's door. He waits again until he gets tagged and then tags Linda's door and leaves behind a gift.

So this means if we have 20 DISers who want to play tag, we will each have to bring 19 little gifts.

We have all week to play and we'd probably cut it off on Thursday. Any leftover gifts at that point can just be left on fish mail holders without tagging with the magnets.

When we played this on our other cruise the gifts were anything from personalized pencils, bumper stickers, candy, yummy hometown recipes (Yorkshire pudding mmmmm), keychains, playing cards etc.... Most were packed in gift baggies and labeled with the name of the DISer who left it behind.

It really was tons of fun (for us anyway) and we only ran into one snag. One DISer's entire family got sick and he had to bail on us halfway through the game. We all just continued on anyway without the magnets.

Basically this version is like a chain letter. Everybody starts off with the person on the list just below your name. Then, once you get your first gift you go to the next name on the list under yours and take them theirs and so on in a rotation until all names have been gifted.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Option 2:
What I'm doing for our next cruise is just making a list of participants with each person's DIS name and Cabin #. If they'd like to share the names of the people in their cabin that's great. Also, we'll include the ages of the kids if people want to share that info, too.
No suggestions have been made on what type of gifts to give. This way, each person can bring whatever they'd like.
I've been keeping everyone updated on how many DISers have contacted me so people can start planning how many items they need to bring. A week prior to sailing, the final list will be PM'd to everyone who's participating.
Then, each person can distribute their goodies whenever they'd like during the cruise. Soccermom-Cheri, with 30+ people participating, chances are pretty good that the gifts would arrive randomly throughout your cruise.
~~~~~~~~~~~

Items given/received:

we received magnets, necklaces, pens, pencils, assorted candies, stickers, Disney puzzle pieces, glow in the dark bracelets, and more. I thought maybe they would skip us, and mostly do the rooms with kids, but we got loads of stuff!!

The possibilities are endless, but some things I received were magnets, pins, postcards, local treats, pencils, candy, homemade CD's, Disney recipes....

We gave out magnets & pens that I had made especially for the cruise (we also handed out those pens at our DIS Meet - there were a plethora of them). We got as gifts - dice and beads from Vegas, pin from Oklahoma and some paper, post-it notes that said Rome-ancing the Mouse (our logo from our cruise), taffy from New York, magnets for our door, a UK flag, bottle opener from the Coliseum, more candy, shaped soap, postcards, and other gifts of that type. These were really nice to receive each day. I also got a postcard from a non-DIS neighbor who saw my magnets on my door and gave me a postcard from his native Gibraltar. I thought that was so nice, so I gave him one of our pens. All of the gifts were nice, and I especially liked the ones that represented the area where they were from, and the small gifts of the places we had been...

~~~~~~
It all depends on how we all want to work it. I'd be happy to keep a spreadsheet of participants and as soon as cabin numbers are confirmed add that information to the spreadsheet. I can distribute the lists to everyone at the first meet or put it in your FE on the first day.
I am SO looking forward to May! It can't come soon enough for me.
Jane
Jane, you are a champ! This is great that you are taking the lead. MANY THANKS! We would LOVE to participate & i agree that option # 2 sounds like a great plan. I do love the idea of people bringing something from where they are from. How fun. What do we need to do to get on the list?
4 months & 1 day to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
It is currently -24 degrees C. here in Ottawa!!!
I guess I won't complain about -3 this morning. :cold:
Sounds like the Radisson is going to be full of our cruise members! :goodvibes I just need to get on the ball and BOOK IT!!
So are there any Idol fans in the house? If there is, PLEASE don't think that all people from Grand Island, Nebraska, are freaks...because they're not! :laughing: How embarrassing for us when someone from our hometown actually gets on the show, and it ends up being one that they make fun of (the guy wearing the orange plaid shirt with the "yellow" Dumb & Dumber hair at the end of the show last night).
I went back a few pages and couldn't find out what this was all about. Someone care to fill me in please?:confused3
Well, you'll have to go back more than "a few" pages! http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1655078&page=9 Post #126 started it all! :goodvibes I mentioned that I really only wanted to do the Western again just to have some frozen chocolate-dipped key lime pie on a stick, and those that were around even back then said we should make it a DIS meet and just tour the city for all the different shops that have it. :laughing: (YES! IT'S THAT GOOD!)
oh we watch idol!!
RE: the shuttle - not to be a downer, but they do frequently change the launch dates, so while it is scheduled for that Friday it may not happen then....in fact, Saturday would be even better and we could see it from the ship....they even put it on the ariel screen!!
I am booking the radisson today - I hope, I was debating paying in full now, since it is $40 cheaper. I emailed the manager and he said with ANY booking you get the cruise parking, so definitely go for the best price.
I think we are going to try Rusty's for dinner, Shirley highly recommends them and they have live entertainment. Grills is known to have a frequent wait on Friday nights!
I am really getting excited about this trip!
We are headed to WDW tomorrow for the weekend and meeting up with three couples from our last few DCL cruises...should be a good time. Probably won't check in until Monday.
It's in the 50-60's here - which I know is nothing to you all but FREEZING to us, really....I am shivering here at work.
Hope everyone is doing great....
oh we watch idol!!
:thumbsup2
I would much rather watch it from the ship, too!!
I am really getting excited about this trip!
Four months from today is when we're leaving!!!! :yay: It'll go by so fast...but when I think about making a to-do list to get ready, there's never enough time for getting it all done!
Have a GREAT time!!!
When trying to book this hotel on hotwire is it Cocoa Beach - Cape Canaveral 3- star or the 3-star hotel in Cocoa. Any input would be great.
Okay I so hope the pie tour thingy is still a good. My step dad loved KLP and this would be a great surprise for him; who's a good daughter:woohoo:. You people are geniuses:worship:
I am not sure at all, what kind of prices are you getting? One night is 107 if you pay in full now and 129 if you just reserve on the radisson site. I haven't used hotwire before.
That is soo funny because the first thing I thought of when I saw that was the family on the dis boards, lol! :rotfl: Maybe we should all get together and do some karaoke on the cruise and rock out our inner American Idols.
I'm super excited to hear that there is going to be a launch the night before. We would love to see it but were planning on staying in St. Augustine the night before. Who knows, maybe we will be able to see a big bright light in the sky!!!
I'm waiting for DH to add excel to my laptop then I'll review all the posts and log everyone that has shown interest. I'll add you to the list.
I'm an Idol watcher too. I usually record it so I can fast forward through the comercials. I still have an hour to watch from last nights show. I really don't like the audition shows as much as when they get to Hollywood.
I'm hoping they delay the launch at least till we are on the ship. We'll be in Orlando so I don't think we'll see very much from there. Since we are using DVC points I can't rationalize driving down to the Cape a night early.
