If I didn't have time to check in from work now and then, I would be :scared1: when I got home!

This thread is really zipping now!

I'm envious John, wish I could check in here while at work, but not happening for me. You're right , this thread really is zipping:scared1:

There are so many new posters, hi all :goodvibes

Gydell, I finally got that postcard for your GS's class in the mail today :)

I am constantly learning new things here, thanks to everyone for all of the info:goodvibes I was thinking of taking a later flight on the day we arrive in LA, checking my baggage at LAX then taking a taxi somewhere to sightsee. I never knew you couldn't check your baggage until 4 hrs before your flight, so guess I'll be trying to get an earlier flight. I would have hated to find this out at the airport!

First, Welcome to all new DISers!:dance3:

Questions:

I know its port of los angeles where we arrive in CA but what is the closest location to look for the car rental...Long Beach?:confused3 Thanks to the new DISer for the info I was looking for....Avis is open on Sunday...I'm looking to rent a car after the cruise ends but don't know what's closest...Long Beach?

Also, anyone who has little ones what do you do about car seats?:confused3

we'll be in Florida hopefully a week before the cruise so we'll be in my parents car and in-laws and probably renting one as well should we just pay the rental company $ for the booster or does anyone know of any travel car seat we could take..or we'll have to rent again in CA. All the travel car seats I've seen are for smaller children. My DS is about 48" but 46 or so pounds DD is about 46" and 45ish pounds...all of the travel booster type seats I've seen are up to 40 pounds and under 42" I think:confused3 Ideas anyone?

Budget is about 6 miles away on ocean boulevard in Long Beach.

All the travel booster seats I'm aware of are for 40 lbs and under. You could either rent them from the agency or buy the Graco one's (that are just a seat booster, without a back) at Target for $20 each and you could just leave them behind...which seems crazy. I guess it all depends how much the car rental company wants to charge you!

OK, all you HYATT MCO PEOPLE where are WE having dinner the night before the cruise?

I don't even remember what's available in the airport and has anyone eaten at the Hyatt's restaurant?

I get in 5PMish, I think, and will wait several hours for more folks to show up.

So, suggestions??? :confused3

Oh, even John is wanting to be at the terminal early so I will sure see you there.:)

He is going to drop me off and take the car to Budget and shuttle back. I said for him to look for a sea of lime green when he gets back!!!:lmao: :dance3: :lmao:

Sounds like one big lime green hug fest going on!!!

My John will be doing the same thing....probably with Darrel. I think we're both renting from Avis. So the ladies are getting dropped off at the port and the men are returning the cars and taking the shuttle back.....just like you. We'll see you at the drop off.

Is it brass? :lmao:

If it is... I can only imagine a scene out of Christmas Story...

Cue sound of jets flying overhead . . .

In my case... C130's... We have the 109th airwing down the street from us... they are the crew that goes to the south pole so they fly even when it's snowing...

Hey!

We never agreed to this!

I'm outnumbered I tell ya!

Where's Elastoboy?

You're never outnumbered... just put on a pink tu tu and you'll be fine...

I sent him off to work. I need more Coldwater Creek money!!
:lmao:

How about he go to work at CC??? Discounts too...

Just found it. . . It really sucks being so far behind - tough to catch up.

Stacey

Don't even try... I gave up and just jumped in...

Yeah, there should be one or two of us in lime... :thumbsup2

13 or so of us will be at Saratoga Springs Friday before the cruise.

All right Vanessa! Great!

13 Geeks will be at SSR the night before. We will get there early in the day, but no parks for us. Our AP's expire in March, and not going to renew at this time. We are going to chill at SSR and wait for the crew to arrive.

Since we are at SSR, and there are others at WDW perhaps at various resorts, a meet the day or evening before might be best arranged at DTD. Since not everyone will have a car, you can always hop a bus from the resort to DTD and back.

If others are going to the parks, maybe you want to hook up at MK or another one of the parks?

Add another family to SSR. We finally made our reservation last week. No availability at BCV for just Friday the 9th. We don't arrive until early evening though.

I'll be at the GF... Just tell me where to go for a meet and I'll be there... Maybe one of the restaurants off the beaten path - Olivias or whatever so we can take over the place for a meet???
Hello Stacey

We are from Scotland, UK.

We are go to the Grills on 9 May and I found website for you - it is http://www.visitgrills.com/

I hope it is right website.

Looking forward to meet you all.

I don't mean to overstep, but I need to ask you something... Not knowing either sign language... what's the best way to communicate with you when we meet?

I hear they have Chilis so maybe you could start the margueritas a little early...

Thanks for the answer, I guess I will not worry about it at this time.
Joseph

Hi Joseph, just an FYI.....I'm also a GTY and I paid in full this past week. I called DCL just before that and asked when I might get assigned. I was told that it won't be until just before we sail. So I wouldn't count on it being any time soon. Maybe not until we get to the terminal. There's a lot of us that are in the same position.....we call ourselves the Lifeboat Crew......because that's where we'll be sleeping onboard! Ha Ha Ha :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I have no clue what time we are getting in Friday. I would like us to take a 1/2 day....we'll see if we can finagle it.

yes I suggest you make a plan for us :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Never having been there I can't suggest anything. Okay experts please speak up and make us a plan!!!!

my mom and sister are going to see Dancing With The Stars tonight at the St Pete Times Forum.

OK Now I'm jealous....I would love to go see one of their shows. Or the So You Think You Can Dance shows. I remember Ginamarie said her family went to see one of those and said it was great. I love seeing a live dance performance.

Don't worry, you can talking to us. Lots of people don't use sign langauges and be nervous to speak to us. We are nervous to meet people too. We are trying to our best.:thumbsup2

Deb,

What do you do when lots of people are around and chatting? I guess it would be a bit like a foreign language where you get some of what is being said but not all?

I think we will be ok. This group seems more than understanding of each other. Please help us understand what works for you, we all want to make sure you are in the thick of it with us in person, just as you are on the thread. :goodvibes

I just got off the phone with DCL and they are doing staggered dining times for anyone who was wondering. Since we're late dining I asked for the times and they're 8, 8:15 and 8:30.

We get in at 6am:scared1: We are planning on renting a car for the day and maybe go to downtown disney. We do want to be able to get to a store to pick up supplies we dont want to fly with (or cant fly with. ie tequila). So we will probably be up to doing dinner with the group.:thumbsup2 We have never eaten at any of the Hyatt restaurants either. So we are open to suggetions too.

Oh can some of you florida folks give me an idea of where I should go for supplies.

With some of these! :grouphug:

and it's always two for one at chili's!:rotfl:

Yep, a little drinkey-pooh and maybe some wings to hold me over till the rest of the gang arrives. :thumbsup2

Well, Hemispheres at the Hyatt looks too pricy, but McCoy's Bar and Grill looked pretty good. There's a Macaroni Grill and the aforementioned Chili's.

I know there are quite a few of us staying there...two Hummerzines full, but don't know how many will be there at dinner time.

I was just wondering what if any nick names people use ( or don't)

I tend to shorten names if there are short ones that are common, but I know that not all people like that.

I was always Nan when I was little. In junior high I thought it sounded TOOOO tomboyish (ok, that was me regardless of my name :rolleyes1 ) so in an effort to be more feminine I used my middle name (Robin) for all of junior high. Yup my yearbook reads Robin. In high school I moved back to my full first name, Nanette. That stuck until I started working for myself 1996, then I was too busy and went back to Nan been there ever since (although, DH would rather call me Nanette)

long winded as usual. You can just call me babbermouth. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
