. . . If others are going to the parks, maybe you want to hook up at MK or another one of the parks?
We plan to go to one of the parks on Friday, May 9. Not yet sure which one.

Not too many natives in CA. My mom, sisters and Dr. Hug. My grandparents came here from the farms of OK in 1936.

Kelly,

My parents are also from the farms in OK. My Mom came out when she was 6...1933. My Dad's Mom (Grandma) came away from the farm of 8 girls, before my father was born. Good old Oakie stock here. My parents grew up in Pasadena, moved to San Jose in 1958.

I'm a native of San Jose, California. We live in the house I grew up in. We bought it from my parents in '98. I've watched California grow into the state it is. Not so great from many views, but also a hard place to leave when you are entrenched with real estate, jobs and school for the kids. Northern Cal is so different from Southern Cal in my minds eye.

We will be staying the night before at the Residence Inn at Cape Canaveral - are there many people staying there?

We arrive the morning of the 9th, and will rent a car from MCO to the hotel. We were planning on going to the Kennedy Space Center that day, but we have changed our mind and will now be spending the day relaxing and maybe hitting the pools.

Now, about dinner at Grills that is planned for the 9th? Is this a good restaurant for kids? What are the details. Thanks in advance.

Stacey

Hi all! OK, We’ve got about 30 people interested in coming, but some are limited on their availability, so I came up with two separate Dismeets. Let me know which one or both you will attend and how many will be there. Thanks, Kelly

Bummer, these dates don't work for us. We are on school vacation the week of April 7-12. Anyone want to meet up in Dland during that time?

First, Welcome to all new DISers!:dance3:

Questions:

I know its port of los angeles where we arrive in CA but what is the closest location to look for the car rental...Long Beach?:confused3 Thanks to the new DISer for the info I was looking for....Avis is open on Sunday...I'm looking to rent a car after the cruise ends but don't know what's closest...Long Beach?

Also, anyone who has little ones what do you do about car seats?:confused3

we'll be in Florida hopefully a week before the cruise so we'll be in my parents car and in-laws and probably renting one as well should we just pay the rental company $ for the booster or does anyone know of any travel car seat we could take..or we'll have to rent again in CA. All the travel car seats I've seen are for smaller children. My DS is about 48" but 46 or so pounds DD is about 46" and 45ish pounds...all of the travel booster type seats I've seen are up to 40 pounds and under 42" I think:confused3 Ideas anyone?

Oh, even John is wanting to be at the terminal early so I will sure see you there.:)

He is going to drop me off and take the car to Budget and shuttle back. I said for him to look for a sea of lime green when he gets back!!!:lmao: :dance3: :lmao:

Hey maybe we can share a shuttle???

As for the carseats - California has the 6 or 60 law. Therefore, if they are over 6 they do not need a car seat. My son (Jack- 6) still uses one - though it is a booster. more to allow for the seat belt to fit him more securely. The booster seems to be the best option for us as Jack is about 47 pounds soaking wet, and about 48" tall. The booster cost about $20 from Target I believe. You can also rent them from the car rental company for about the same money and not worry about hauling it on the cruise.

Here is a link to one that we use (although no CARS logo on it): http://www.target.com/Graco-No-Back...?ie=UTF8&index=target&rh=k:booster car&page=1

I hope this helps.

Am I the only one that may be able to go on Sunday, 3/16/08?:confused3 I need to run it by my DH when he gets home from work but that week and some extra days are my DK spring break so we may actually be able to go. I really didn't want to go to DL prior to the cruise vacation so maybe we'll go to Universal and/or Legoland(their days are numbered there....I'm waiting for them to tell me they don't want to go there anymore) and of course the beach we don't have that here in the desert so its still a novelty for my kids:rotfl:

We will be bringing one of our seats on the plane with us. We only have one that is FAA approved. So that we will have it in Florida the day before and then after the cruise we will be around for another week driving. I checked and the car rental companies charge 9-10$$$ per day to rent one. No thanks. I have no idea who sat in it last and what they did in it. I think it will fit in the top of our closet on the ship.
I plan on packing kinda light and just doing laundry. So we should be okay on room.

13 or so of us will be at Saratoga Springs Friday before the cruise.

Add another family to SSR. We finally made our reservation last week. No availability at BCV for just Friday the 9th. We don't arrive until early evening though.

Does help...thanks:thumbsup2 My DS is just small for his age...he is turning 7 in a couple of weeks but my DD is still 5 and about his size too. We use boosters for both of them here but some of his friends don't use a booster and are his size or smaller...I just don't want to get in trouble or worse something bad happen to them. I thought I saw something to adjust the strap so it doesn't go along their neck...I thought it was in the one step ahead magazines but I can't find it anywhere. I guess we'll just have to rent one with the rental car ...I hate doing that... they are sooo gross and used at least that's how it was when we rented some in San Diego a couple of years ago.

V- thanks for the pj pals tip...placed another order last night so we should have lots of new disney clothes for the kids...check out the shoes...only 5.99 can't beat that I bought two pairs one size up for the cruise and later.:thumbsup2

We're having a Winter Storm here in San Diego today (they are totally calling it that on the news) Temps in the low 50s and it's raining.

So it is a good day to stay in and Dis. though I'm starting to feel like I should go do :laundy: or something.

:lmao: :lmao: It's all in your perspective I guess. Portland gets in a tither when the temps get in the 20's where some folks see that as warming up a bit! :lmao:

Thank you John. No you didn't miss it. Besides, I am known for having a birthday week:rotfl: Sometime in the not to distant future I may even get to the point where I have a birthday month.:lmao: :lmao:

me too, I'm a birthday monther :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

MrsMork- you and drHug got me thinking what we were going to do for pirate night...so I ordered myself a POC shirt for pirate night:goodvibes I guess that and the bandanas they give will have to do for us:thumbsup2

DrHug dresses for pirate night...do you?:confused3 Any pics:goodvibes
