John, it makes me sad that those who are have no direct current need of a community service chose to make it impossible for those who do need it to be funded. I know that you will keep fighting, as you have a great love of children and so much hope for their future, several of the reasons that make you such a great person.

Hello Friends,

It has been a long and trying couple of days. We were back on the ballot for our school levy, and despite getting more votes out than in the six previous losses, the no voters got out more. It is disappointing, and depressing, and I really wonder about my community. We lost by about 1,000 votes out of over 20,000 cast. Parents and teachers worked our rear ends off, and spent thousands of dollars in this effort all for nothing.

The really horrible thing is watching the attack of the no voters in our community, spreading misinformation and lies. You can read the story here, and then read the many nasty comments below:

I posted this comment in response tonight:

No nasty comments here. You reap what you sow. For all of you who think you have sent some kind of message to Columbus - think again. They could care less. When attacking teachers and the people who care for our children in our community becomes sport, it is indeed a sad day. I doubt that any of you have taken the time to meet these people, to know them, and to show them the care, respect, and love they give to children every day. It is not just your fault, but the fault of every person who puts so little value on education that it is the last thing funded, and not the first. You have not voted negatively on things that affect your well-being, and the services that aid you, and yet you would vote this way when those who have no voice in their future pay the price. My parents taught me differently. They taught me to respect and value teachers and not to insult them. They taught me children come first and it is the duty of each succeeding generation to sacrifice if they must for the future. We will lose good teachers. We will lose what it took generations to create, and the loss will come more quickly than the time it will ever take to regain that loss. I am sad, and I am ashamed - and the negative comments here show the real heart and priorities of many of you.

Hope you are all doing well - I'm having a hard time focusing on a fun vacation when Sophia and kids like her are losing more educational opportunities.

John,

I have no children, but quite frankly am appalled and angered at how little value is often placed in education. I suppose however it goes along with our tendency towards shortsightedness and the need for quick fixes and bandaid solutions.

Education is our future and those little brains are national assets. It is what will keep us competitive, but I suppose in the end though lip service is paid to caring, we just don't care enough.

Sorry, I will hop down off my soapbox and resume my normal fluffy vapid banter.

This reminded me of neighbors we had in Fla. They asked us to feed their cats while they were gone. After a few days I started looking for the litter box. I couldn't find it and got worried about where the cats were leaving their presents. I finally found the spot. They had trained their cats to go in the tub. They would run the shower to rinse the items down the drain. :scared1:
GROSS! I'd hate to be the plumber when their drain gets clogged!

I am home sick, achy and head is killing me. I really wish when a co-worker is sick that they would stay home, I am the third person this week to be out with what ever it is.

We all had that here in Florida, too! We blamed it on our friends from England who came to visit us with their 4year old grand daughter!
It ran through all 8 of us adults!

BTW, I can't get on your website yet!

I want to send a big THANK YOU again to whomever it was that posted (in #2 or #3) the Deck Four picture. I would repost it ... but I don't know how!! :rotfl:

Over the past week, when I was truly so busy I couldn't even allow myself to check in (for fear I would spend all day/night posting and reading) I just kept the picture up on my computer and gazed at it "longingly" all week long. :goodvibes

:tinker: Karen
That was Lisa (DisneyLover5). I remember clearly because of how relaxed that picture made me feel! I don't remember where to find it, but the image is burned into my brain and I refer to it often! :goodvibes I STILL can't believe I'll actually be there soon! :grouphug:

That's great!:cool1:
I've been wanting to try Freecycle to get rid of some stuff, but just haven't taken the time to do it.
Oh Cheri, every time I'm in the mood to de-clutter, Freecycle is my friend! It's amazing the things people will take. When I moved into my house 2 years ago, the previous owner had left a bunch of old doors in the garage, some wood doors and some cheap screen doors. Somebody took ALL of them, even the broken ones, because she wanted to make a shed in her backyard made entirely of old doors.

Got the passports...I can't remember who suggested the approach with the kids - I think it was you Holly? Anyway, it worked liked a charm. Just told them I wanted to get their photo and an id card for safety reasons and something we could have to show their age. The woman who processed it said a lot of people were getting them within 3 weeks, and she wasn't concerned. I got concerned when I remembered they had to take our birth certificates! Yikes! I figure I won't panic until April 20 - I do feel better knowing that she said most got them within 3 weeks, some within 10 days. Sounds like they must have really built up staffing there after all the media.

Over $400! That was a lot of DODs! Hope they don't come in handy! I can't wait until Easter, then I can start openly packing and getting things ready. It is getting harder and harder to keep this secret!
Lisa
Yup, that was me. Glad it worked! Good news! Oh, they're going to be so excited when they find out! WOOHOO! :woohoo:

Hi Nan,

I'm so sorry to hear about your daughters knee but I would definitely have it looked at! Some people are predisposed to dislocations because of how the patella sits on the groove and if its shallow this can happen more often!

As you will all see on the cruise I'm still in a leg brace and who knows when if ever I will be out of it! This is an "extreme" case but my daughters were laying on me a year and a half ago and when they moved off somehow they caught on my knee and the patella actually dislocated underneath my leg! It broke the patella and the femur and tore all the ligaments and tendons, etc. I've since had 2 surgeries to fix the some of the damage! But now I have nerve damage from the surgery! The doctors aren't sure when or if it will heal! So at this point I don't have a quad muscle even though I do about 2 hours of physical therapy a day and I have to wear a brace so I won't fall over! In my case it was a freak accident but you don't realize how important the knee is until something serious happens! I would just take her in to be safe!!!

Best wishes!
Oh my gosh, what a bizarre accident!

I was able to get on, is anyone else having any issues getting on?

Today was a half day at school, and a beautiful day in nor cal. My dd had a drs appt, so I took her after school and we met our cousins for lunch. My cousins 18th birthday..called me very excited this am..got her very own car. As she put it..all hers no more sharing with the parents! Then doctor, then we went shopping for dresses for upcoming dances/recitals and the cruise.
It was such a carefree beautiful day. I am sure I'll get some crap cause i didn't go back to work, but it was worth it!
I realized I didn't tell my boss I won't be there friday...oops! Well he'll have no choice, cause I'm going to DISNEYLAND friday and nothing can stop me! Nemo here I come..... ;)
WOOHOO!!!! (on all). :goodvibes

Hi Holly, I think it's great that there are so many of us that share the same sentiment :grouphug: Sorry you are still having computer problems.

Kathe
I think we all just care about each other so much, which is strange since most of us are strangers! It's truly an amazing group. :goodvibes

Ok people... .

At the rate we are going with this thread...

We're going to hit page 250 in JULY!!! :lmao:

Where did everybody go????
I think everybody's in mourning because I was gone so long. :rotfl: :rotfl:

So I've been sitting here multi-tasking: eating my Subway sub, reading posts and posting, and watching last week's Survivor. I just discovered a big thing I miss about my laptop. I have to PAUSE Survivor to go to the bathroom! :rotfl: I'm so used to carrying my laptop around the house with me to whichever room I happen to be in! :lmao:
