I'm pregnant and I've thought about this too since we dress up at MNSSHP almost every year but I honestly find it a bit in poor taste to dress up as a knocked up princess. Maybe at a party at home or someplace else it wouldn't be so bad but I don't think I would have the guts to go to the park like that.

Now I think this is a personal preference and if you feel comfortable, by all means go for it but I couldn't run around the park looking like a pregnant Cinderella with a bunch of little girls walking around. That's just me.

ok so i guess i should have clarified....this is for my own family halloween party. not for the parks.

wow....i realize that this is your personal opinion....but arial did have a baby.....rememeber.

and btw, i don't consider myself 'knocked up'....we wanted this baby!

Could you make one? I think something with an empire waist line would be fine. Wendy's dress (not a princess really) to me always looks like it could be a maternity dress!

How far along will you be? Working with a smaller belly vs. a bigger belly could make a BIG difference when planning on making one. I know Wal-Mart sells patterns for Disney Halloween costumes. Just go by there and look through the big pattern books. They usually always have a Disney section.

I once saw a pregnant lady dressed as a nun for halloween - now that was poor taste

Maybe you could be a Good Queen and create your own costume...and then your daughters could be your princesses! I know thrift stores have a lot of bridesmaids and prom gowns priced pretty low this time of year. Maybe one with an empire waist would work. You could also be a fairy godmother-sparkly dress, wand, and wings and voila!

I think it would be more appropriate to go for more of a "mature" royalty look; Disney princesses were all pretty much teens. You're going more for the after the wedding theme, I would think, unless you want people to take the costume as satirical. I'd go generic renaissance, and not try to mimic any Disney characters.

During the 15th century, there was a fashion for a pleated overdress called a houpelande, which was cinched in under the bust with a belt. They were always made of very heavy fabric, so one pretty much always looked a tad enciente while wearing one. The best-known example of this style is in Van Eyck's Arnolfini portrait: http://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/c...lectionPublisher.woa/wa/work?workNumber=ng186
(The dress has magnificent ermine trim, and she wanted to make sure that it was clearly visible in the portrait; thus the big pouf in the front -- zoom the photo and you'll see that she isn't really expecting.) Here is a pattern for making a houpelande: http://www.pillagedvillage.com/cgi-bin/intpvonline/MP_26.html

PS: Wendy's dress was supposed to be a nightgown.

Well I think its a cute idea! But you are going to have to tell us what size you are and how pregnant you will be in October! A plus sized costume might work.

I think it's a cute idea! I would not be offended in the least. I agree that an empire waist would work well. And the fairy godmother sounds really cute too!!

I wouldn't be offended either. I mean, the princesses did end up marrying all those princes, right? I agree with the empire waist. Also, you could try buying a larger size costume (maybe Cindy, b/c her dress is pretty full in the skirt) and take in the seams along the bodice.

Amy,
I think it's a cute idea- I have no idea why anyone would be offended by that :confused3
I don't have any idea where you could find one, but I hope you're able to!
Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Last year, I purchased a Mrs. Potts Costume from Disney. The costume really had plenty of room for a pregnant belly. I will be 7 months at Halloween and I am considering using it again this year.

thank you for everyones support and great ideas!

i am going to wait a bit and see how big i will be. this is my 3rd pregnancy and i will only be 13 weeks pregnant....but I showed really early with both my girls. i love teh fairy god mother idea....and gus gus.

thanks again!

A friend of mine wore the Mrs. Pott's last year when she was prego and it was so cute. She wore some white leggings instead of tights and it was perfect. Also it went really cheap right before halloween at disney direct, something like $15 with a coupon code. My guess is unless your pregnant no woman wants to make herself more plump than she has too. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Wow, it's Halloween, lighten up a bit people.

Be whatever you want to, pregnant or not. :)

What a cute idea!

I agree that you might be able to use a plus size costume, since you won't be incredibly pregnant. I hope you have enough of a bump to look pregnant at 13 weeks ... with my first *and I know it's different with each one* I didn't look pregnant till the day before I delivered. I looked down and it was like "Where'd that come from?!!?!?" I'm pretty sure it was all the bacon cheeseburgers I craved :rotfl:

And honestly, if anyone found a Disney pregnant princess offensive, ask if they've even glanced at MTV in the past decade. I think it's an adorable idea, and you're three year old is right, princesses get pregnant too!
