Wow, I didn't know that Southwicks was still in existence! We took our DSs there about 20 years ago. DS #1 went to Nature's Classroom, but we moved to Texas just before DS #2's year to go. And DH used to live in Grafton (before he was my DH, if you know what I mean). My former wedding reception was in Upton-I can't remember the name of the resturaunt, it probably doesn't exist, but then you never know-Southwick's lives so maybe the resturaunt does! Hey, can someone send me down a Sundae from Friendly's? That's what I miss the most from Massachusetts.
Southwick's is alive and well and still expanding in their 50th year. Check out their website at http://www.southwickszoo.com/. My oldest goes camping at Southwick's next month with the Boy Scouts. Last year the Boy Scouts raked the deer trails and the zoo stayed open late just for them.
The only restaurant I can think of in Upton that held weddings was the Pine Ridge Country Club. It closed in the mid 80's to make way for several homes.
Wish I could help with the sundae. I stopped at Friendly's last Wednesday for a shake on my way home from picking up the oldest from swimming at the Whitinsville Community Center.
