Mass Shooting at Orlando Club

First, Prayers to all those who lost someone, the injured, the families and friends and someone injured. This was a horrific act of Radical Islamic Terrorism. There are to many out there that are against our way of life and wish to do us harm because we don't follow their hard core Islamic Religious Beliefs. This might be a small percentage of the Muslim followers but with more than a billion followers, even 1% would be more than million people wishing us and the rest of the world harm. Those one million must be dealt with and dealt with harshly. We can't have anymore of these attacks.

Also, I can't see any reason for any private citizen having access to a weapon that can shoot 100 rounds in less than a minute. But, if they don't have access to guns this individuals will use home made bombs, planes or anything else to do us harm. Tougher gun laws are not the answer, A united effort by the US and other Nations to wipe out the haters is what is needed.

We have a family member who lives in the area and frequents the club. He was supposed to be there with friends Saturday night but stayed home because he didn't feel well. Last word we heard was he was waiting to hear (hopefully) from his friends.

Horrible situation for all the victims and their loved ones. Heartbreaking and tragic.

Deeply saddened when I got this news.

Its terrible that we all, as human beings sharing the same planet, cannot just get along with one another. My prayers go out to families of those who lost loved ones and to the injured who will need to heal both physically and mentally.

Whatever your religious or sexual preference is, you shouldn't have to worry about being hurt by ignorance and hate. Maybe one day we can all get it together and live in peace.

My goodness. Please keep a close watch on your family member. Survivors guilt is a very very real thing and he will forever live with the what ifs of had he not felt sick that night etc.

I hope all of his friends are okay.

I noticed people keep bringing up the bomb thing. Honestly I think there's a lot of overestimating just how easy it is to make a reliable bomb that would inflict massive damage. There's a reason these shooters are choosing certain guns. They are easy to get and there's nothing to stop them from acting once they obtain them.
Also it's easy to say oh well they'll just buy them illegally. Again I wonder just how much of an over simplification that is. You have to have some type of connection to do that. It's not as simple as it's being made out to be.
There'd also be more of a chance to catch them before they act.

Just ask the Tsarnaev brothers. Two home made bombs killed 3 and wounded over 200.

We know that whatever the difficulty of manufacturing a bomb - they have already shown they are more than capable of manufacturing them with relative ease.

It's an all-or-nothing mentality. Let's say there is a law preventing easy access to mass-killing guns. They have to use something else. So instead of 50 deaths and 50-something injuries, the madman still carries out his crime but because of having to use a slower gun or even a home made bomb, we have 10 deaths and 20 injuries. Did it stop the crime? No. But there is less death. That's a start, in my book.

No arrests, no flags, no legal right to keep him from doing anything. Kind of like a husband that threatens his wife, family etc. 50 times in a year. Nothing can be done unless he actually kills someone. Ya. That makes sense. There is no difference in this situation. "Watching" someone or having them on a list of some kind is the same thing. It means nothing until they act on it.

What's notable about this terrorist is that he came up on the radar more than once, with separate flags, but flags pointing towards a consistent ideology, enough so that he merited watching for a period of time, but unfortunately not a long enough period of time.

There are many things that need to be done here but I am making a first start. I vow that I will never vote for any candidate that does not support the reinstatement of the assault weapon ban. This is non negotiable. Those of you who want to allow the spread of these weapons of mass destruction can spare the effort of posting. I don't care what you say and will not respond to your posts. Including the ridiculous argument that we can't do anything about this weapon because the hate filled will just find another weapon.

As we as a country take of that, we need to then move on to the intolerance and hate for whatever reason.

I'm making one last comment regarding the "assault weapons" issue.

DH owns several 6 shooters, as he was involved in speed shooting for awhile. (until ammo got super crazy hard to find and expensive). There are guys he shots with who use quick reloaders (basically the shots are set in a wheel form and it's slapped into place, instead of loading round by round.) One of the guys DH shot with could load and shoot his gun in less than 15 seconds. Not quite 100 rounds a minute, but 24 shots a minute...and the guys who use those type of guns tend to be more accurate than the guys using "assault weapons". In less than 6 minutes, this guy could have killed and wounded as many people as the monster did.

This monster was in the club for 3 hours. Not 3 minutes, not 30 minutes. 3 hours.
He might have killed all those people in the first few minutes, or it could have been done over a period of time. We just don't know.

This isn't a weapons problem. It's a criminal problem. All the bans and laws in the world will not stop a criminal from doing their crime. There are laws against theft, and people still steal. There are laws against using cocaine, and people still use it. Until we address the problem of the criminal behavior, nothing will change.

Exactly. I don't see why this concept is so difficult for some people to grasp!!

This isn't a family member we personally have a super involved connection with, but his more immediate family will have a good eye on him. He's a super good guy with a level head raised by amazing parents, so I'm hopeful his background will come to his aid in the event he has injured or murdered friends among the victims.

A "slower gun" wouldn't have changed much in this case. The shooter was able to continually reload unopposed.

And there were 49 people murdered. We really should stop including the idiot killer in the death toll.

Unpopular as it may be, I'm still not ready to push for taking away rights to arm from law abiding citizens. If we can't manage to track a terrorist who's popped up on the FBI radar multiple times, that surely proves we're kidding ourselves if we think we can keep guns out of the hands of criminals. All I can think is who benefits if average, law abiding citizens are the ones with no access to guns? I don't like the idea of criminals or terrorists walking around with guns anymore than any other human in their right mind. I sure don't like to hear of peaceful people just out living their lives being slaughtered for nothing. I'm just not prepared to consign all those same folks who want to go about their peaceful lives to a future as sitting ducks with no access to defending themselves should things ever turn that direction.

Hi everyone,

While the city of Orlando is picking up the pieces of the horrifying act of terrorism that happened at Pulse, I wanted to let all of you know how you can help the families of those who were affected.

There is a Go Fund Me page that has been set up to support the victims of the Pulse shooting. Every dollar helps and no amount is too small. There is no charge to donate, so please consider helping these families.

https://www.gofundme.com/pulsevictimsfund

Also, if you happen to live in Florida, many blood banks are now setting up appointments for donations as the walk-in traffic at OneBlood has been overwhelming and they'll need their supplies replenished. Please consider donating blood.

Let's all do what we can and make a difference for these grieving families! :grouphug:
