March 25, 2006- Anyone else?

Hi,

I have been wondering about the same issue. I have thought about asking them about moving him up as well. He is a very outgoing little boy (now I sound like I am bragging) so I think he might be ok. My DS turned 7 in January and is in 1st grade, so they may have an issue with that. His big brother is 12 and would be in the lab. I sort of would like to have them both in the same area if at all possible, but not really sure how DCL will deal with it. I know the 11-12 year olds will have their own thing from the 8-9 year olds.

I think I might try and find some of the Navigators for the 8-9 group and see if they are things he would want to do. DS is way into basketball, football and video games as well. He is also a competitive swimmer.

We reviewed the navigator for 8-9 year olds last night. That is when I realized that my DS7 would be happier in the lab. You can find the western navigator for that age group on ***************** under "navigators."

From the threads I have read, it sounds like the kids club is pretty agreeable to making age group changes at the beginning of the cruise. They want our kids to be happy :thumbsup2 It sounds like they frown on making changes later in the week. I have a feeling we will try to move up, but we'll let DS7 make the final decision. Keep us posted if you learn more.

I did find them throught the link gimpeaux posted. I know my DS would be all about the sports deck at 10:30 pm! Think we will talk with DCL at the port and see if we could give it a "trial run". If the boat isn't as full as we think it is, maybe they would do it. My concern is it is 9 months from his BD, not a month or so.

Has anyone tipped the CM's from the kid's clubs with phone cards? I have read on several threads that this is a nice gesture since we don't tip them money. How many counselors would I expect to tip per child and what amount is appropriate on a phone card?

I started a thread asking the same question, and here's what I found out in response. Some good ideas in there, including the link to a site (Google "tagrel" and it will be the first site you see) where you can print out thank-you cards for the cast members (CMs) to take with you.

I'm not sure if this link will work but another thread posted on cruise report yesterday showed no problem for a 7 year old, who was 6 months from birthday:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1048219 It is first post.

Hope that helps,

We got mail! :woohoo:

We got our luggage tags, paperwork, etc... in the mail yesterday. Guess I better start packing :thumbsup2

Thanks gimpeaux and dfl246-

Once again I knew that someone here would know answers to my questions. I think I'll find some good candy and cards for the club counselors.

Still patiently awaiting our documents. Maybe the mailman will bring them them today.

Hi Checking in.. will be back tomorrow..

myboysmom and minneapolismickey - I had had the same issue with eric when he was 7 and 2nd grade, since he is an August b'day. I asked at the lab if he coudl join the 8-9 year olds since he was the same grade level. At first they said okay, as long as his brother was there. But after the first day, the counselor told me that he belonged with this group, so no issue..

Now he is expecting that I can do the same with the Stack for him but i really think that he should be at Ocean quest with the 12-14 year olds. On the other hand, he will mostly be on the sports deck 24/7 ..

i'm home!!!

We did get our doc and the package was so unimpressive compared to our other DCl cruises. Could be 'cause I had done the online thing so there wasn't much to send but the luggage tags. But nevertheless, they are here!!!pirate: pirate: pirate: pirate:

In the docs was a letter that explained the scattered/staggered dining,
I called DCL to ask about the dining times and the CM told me that yes as far as she knew the cruise had staggered dining, so i tried to confirm the 8 pm time. The CM said we were confirmed late seating and requested 8 pm. That was all he 'puter showed, so the rest we would find out on the ship..

Did you know that the KTTW card tells your dining rotation? So as soon as you check in and get the KTTW card, you can tell your rotation.

Gonna ketchup on other threads be back soon///

We haven't gotten ours yet :guilty: but I am sure they will show up soon. I know they will go to our TA first and then she is planning on calling us. As she is one of our neighbors I am sure she will call when she is all ready to give us our copies of everything.

I know it might just be the luggage tags, but it will mean we are really going  :cheer2: and I am not just filling up the office with clothes for the heck of it :)

We are getting a ton of rain tonight. Hard to believe after we got 3 inches of snow on Sunday!

No cruise documents yet...doesn't matter, I'm filling up the guest room with clothes and items anyway! Every day it gets a little harder to patiently await our trip. :rolleyes1

myboysmom- I'm just going to let the club counselors guide me as to the right fit for my DS7. He says he'll have fun in either club, and I'm sure he's right about that. They will either be the youngest or the oldest. Not sure which is harder.

Well, as monkeybug94 said, we don't have ours yet. :sad2: If it goes to the TA first, that would explain it, as our TA is in Florida and will have to forward it to us. Since we did all of the registration online, I guess it will pretty much just be our tags.

Hey, here's a question for you experienced cruisers. I've read on other threads about ideas for carrying KTTW cards, IDs, money, etc. when going on excursions, especially ones where you swim. Some use waterproof "boxes"; others suggest lanyards with plastic pouches (at least that is what it sounds like). How do you handle this? Any suggestions?

Thanks as always!

Jim

that is an issue for us too. We tend to bring a cooler or excursion bag and place out stuff in there.. but that is trusting our fellow passengers too.. we have one of those swim things for KTTW and $$$, but no sure that Dh will want to carry it..

Jim: we actually do both, in this way: we definitely got lanyards for the kids but instead of in a plastic sleeve, we had guest services punch a hole and it is threaded through that. Much safer than in a pocket (esp DS14). While you are at GS, you wil also probably want to remove charging ability of the kids.

Then we have two of those waterproof boxes (one for each parent) to keep the keycards, a photocopy of passports, 1 credit card, and some cash).

After our first cruise when (unknowing) to me dh but our KTTW cards and his id in his pocket and went swimming at CC. :sad2: Lucky for us the cards floated back to shore and a very, very nice person turned them in to guest services to us! :scared1: Talk about panic! Now he wears the waterproof holder without complaining at all!

(As far as the documents go - we live in Central Florida so our mail only has to travel across town! If they mailed them all out together everyone else's should be there soon!)

Our TA got the docs today :cool1: She told me that DCL used to send them out a month before, now 14-10 days in the norm. She said she felt that they were cutting it kind of close, but that's how they do it. I will get them tonight! :teeth:

Jim, I got plastic pouches for ID cards for this trip and laynards as well. I am not sure what we will do when we are swimming with them. Our dryboxes are actually round and we only use them when we are at the Dells to hold paper money and coins. I don't think we will be bringing them with us. The dryboxes do work very well.
