March 25, 2006- Anyone else?

minneapolismickey - Great news! :yay:

jcuzzort1026 - You probably did this already, but you might try posting again on the main board with a heading such as "Can we use kids' car seat on excursions?" Given some of the questions people ask and get answered, it's hard to believe you wouldn't get any helpful info. Also, you could try posting the question on the cruisecritic.com main question board or on its relevant port board.

That's a good idea. I'll wait a day or so (don't want to see pushy ;) ) and re-post my question. Surely someone out there has been on Disney's Grand Cayman excursion with a little one!

Just checking, if we are standing in our meeting place, this is the view we're going to see? :confused3 (click to make it bigger).

Minnie, let's meet on the side overlooking the goofy pool and the stage area so we can get a good view of the sail away show..

babs4 (Indiana) – DW, DH, DD13, DD18, DD’s girlfriend 16 - traveling with DNiece and her husband.

Geffric:
On my list, I showed babs4 also bringing a grandparent (grandmother?)

Babs4, is that right?

Thank you so much for working on the Dis list.

geffric - Looks like you got everyone, although I'm guessing myboysmom needs a DW in there, too... ;)

3 weeks from right now, we'll be getting ready for the lifeboat drill and then our sailaway meet! party: (If you see a family walking around Deck 10 looking for the meet, who are wearing 3 green wristbands and holding about three dozen others, that's us....) :teeth:

Minnie328 - I showed my DD12 your report and she loved it.

You should post the link here.

I just called to see if I could get a change in our dining seating. I was hoping we could get into the 8:00 seating BUT I was told the ship wasn't full enough to do the scatter dining. They did offer to move us to the early seating though. I was surprised, I thought we'd have to go on a waiting list. I didn't take it though. I'm trying to juggle being able to go to the Mallory Square Sunset Celebration in Key West and not missing the show in AP or PC. So I'll wait until we board to hash out the particulars of our dining ;) !

But I'm glad to hear the ship isn't super full! More pool space for us!

Yes, please add DW to our listing :) I tend not to count myself in these things.

What is "scattered" dining? I don't think I have ever heard of it.

I too enjoyed our visit last night. Looks like lots of Big 10 fans. Badgers just got creamed by Iowa! So we will be playing Indiana in the Big 10 tourney. Hope they can turn it around before the "Dance".

Jennifer,

When you say you were told that the ship isn't full enough for "scatter dining," does that mean that they won't be having 3 dining times for early seating and 3 dining times for late seating, but will have only one time for each? And did the DCL person say whether those times be 6 & 8:30?

Interesting they offered to move you to early seating instead of putting you on a waiting list, as we're on the waiting list for early... :confused3

Anyway, that IS great news about the relative lack of crowding! I'm surprised, given that it's spring break here and, I assume, many other places.

That is strange... I haven't read anywhere that another DCL cruise didn't do the "scattered dining" HMM. now I have to go to the DCL site and see how many cabins are vacant.. just for fun..

We had the snorkel crisis today. I found the masks and snorkels and it looks like only 2 snorkels and 1 mask are okay., seemed the others were damaged in the basement.:confused3 don't ask me how.. so I am going to buy the rest of the snorkels and use the masks from the snorkeling tour folks.. One less things for me to lug in the suitcase.

be back...

Scattered dining is where there are actually six different seating. 5:15, 5:30, 5:45, 8:00, 8:15, and 8:30. It helps keeps the crowds in elevators, hallways, etc down if the boat is full. I've never been on a cruise that used it (but we usually cruise in the "off-times"). The lady I talked to said there were just two seating listed: 6 and 8:30.

(If you're waitlisted for the early seating it might be worth a call to them to see if you've gotten it.)

I did check the DCl site and all of a sudden there are lots of cabin available.. wonder what happened? When i had checked in January, the boat was almost all full with only a few cabins left...:scratchin

Hmm.. wonder if they will fill the boat with CMs? Or if we are going to sail not at full capacity?? Should make getting reservations for things easy..

Are we the only people on the boat? Should make locating each other easy :yay:

In all seriousness, I also checked the website and there are numerous rooms available all the way up to a category 4. I had been wondering about the possibility of upgrading to a verandah room. Do you think it is likely that some of us will be offered upgrades with so many rooms available? :scratchin

I think upgrades are a definite possibility. I can say (don't ask how I know) that the CM offerings for this trip haven't changed so that doesn't have anything to do with it.
I wonder if they were holding rooms for a large group (like a convention) and it fell through. Who knows.
The second 4 day cruise we were on the ship was only about 3/4 full and it was so nice. You could have a table yourself in the dining room if you wanted it. We made Palo reservations on day 2 of the trip. No fighting over deck chairs. No having to get to shows early. :thumbsup2 It was so nice!

I'm amazed at the open rooms. I wonder if DCL is beginning to experience a customer reaction to not going to Cozumel with Carnival/Princess having returned?? On the other hand, these openings happened long after final payment was due??

We told our DD5 tonight about the cruise. It was really funny, while she was excited, we could not get her to understand a Disney CRUISE. She kept saying, "so we're going to Disney World??" and we would say no, but it is a Disney ship. finally, DS14 seemed to help her understand by saying it is a sort of Disney World on a ship....

I think this is a wonderful development! The idea of cruising on a ship that isn't filled to the max sounds delightful. DW had the same thought as jcuzzort1026 -- that a large group must have cancelled.

After having read numerous comments on several threads about early vs. late dining, I came to the conclusion, and DW agrees, that we should stick with late, even though the possibility of advancing on the wait list to early seating appears to have become easier. We'll see what DD thinks in the morning, and if she agrees we will cancel our request to be moved to early.

Here are Navigators from a recent Western cruise.

dlf246 - That's a wonderful story about trying to help your DD5 understand a Disney cruise. Now if they'd only put a :dumbo: ride onboard.... :)

babs4 here, since I last posted our traveling party has changed. It will be dh,dw,dd18,dd13 and dgrandmother if it makes any difference.
