Dis is short for Disney, so it really depends on how you pronounce Disney!! It could be Disney or Dizney!!

OK west coasters... If you had 1 day to spend in LA, not including Disneyland, what would you do? One stop has to be the Robert A. Cinader Memorial Fire Station, City of Carson, Los Angeles County Fire Station 127 where the TV show "Emergency" (Station 51) was filmed. :firefight It is near the port actually!

Just signed up for the FB page! Wow, lots of great posts and magnet photos etc... I didn't even realize that St Paddy's day is during the cruise. How cool!!! I hope we can get some green beer on board :-)

We just received some info from DCL regarding the MR cruise.

According to the brochure (I'll try and scan it and upload it with a link), the Port of Los Angeles does not allow coolers, except ones with baby foods, diabetic stuff, or stuff related to dietary issues.

Apparently the Port will not allow coolers of drinks to go through. Some sort of California fruit and nuts ordinance or something. :confused3

I booked a GTY cat 11 room.....can't wait to find out my room assignment....did anyone else book a GTY cat? I can't believe I will have to wait till January or February to find out my room assignment.....the waiting is going to kill me!!!!!!

I checked the DCL website...the big suites are still available....maybe I will get one of those :) Sorry, Denise, if I get one of those, I am not swaping rooms with you :rotfl:

Hope

Allen I will have to get more info on this. My husband is a firefighter and as if he doesnt see enough firetrucks or stations he likes to visit them while on vacation.:confused3

Didn't say anything about alcohol, just coolers!!

I grew up in Carson and my mom use to watch Emergency. I didn't realize it was filmed in Carson. Did you know the hospital in Carson is the hospital image on General Hospital? :-)

Will this be your first time to the west coast? Knowing that will help me with some suggestions on what to do!

Okay, it says no "coolers" but doesn't say anything about carrying on alcohol? I've never used a cooler to carry on my alcohol, I just put it in my carry-on bag. Worse case scenario, I could argue that my "dietary issues" include manic episodes if I don't have cocktails while on vacation!! :confused3:lmao:

It is my first trip "boots on the ground" to California, passed through LAX on the way home from Hawaii once. DW has been to the San Francisco / Sacramento area, but has never been to Southern California. We are planning on going to Disneyland for a couple of days after the cruise, and a possible stop at my employers office in Irvine. Trying to decide if we should fly out on Friday night and see LA Saturday or do it all after the cruise.:confused3 What do you think?

We booked this cruise a little while ago - subscribing to the thread.

As for what to do in the SoCal area, and NOT go to Disneyland - which I am having a hard time imagining myself :confused3
You might try going to the Queen Mary or the Spruce Goose, those are very popular. Or you can try one of the many missions that are in SoCal. Some of them are just beautiful and not too far from the port or Disneyland. There's always Hollywood, but despite how popular it is, I've always found it to be dirty. I'd rather do the mock-up of it at CA Adventure. Although, depending on what's playing, going and seeing the real El Capitan can be cool. We saw Pirates there one year. They had a museum setup downstairs with props from the film. It always changes, so you would have to check to see. The Kodak theater is right across the street, and we were there on a day when they were setting up for one of the awards shows. It was really cool to see all the stuff coming out, and the red carpet. The LA area also has lots of museums, so no matter what your tastes, you can probably find something.
