Marathon Weekend 2027

Good morning RunDisney All-Stars! After January seemed to last forever, February has gone by in a flash! That means it's March, and everyone knows what March showers bring. That's right, they bring Marathon Weekend registration! For today's Sundays Are For Disney (SAFD) question let's set the stage for next year's event. What are your plans for Marathon Week 2027? Will this be your first time running the weekend or are you a MW veteran? Lurkers, this would be a great time to introduce yourselves and join in the conversations! I promise we don't bite (or judge, or pace/distance shame) and this is a great "safe place" to get good support and advice.

SAFD: I'll be back looking to complete Dopey #9. Overall, it will be my 12th Marathon Weekend. It's far and away my favorite RunDisney race weekend. For me, Marathon Weekend has transformed over the years from a solo running event to a social event with friends through the meet-ups, DATW and mini-golf that I look forward to throughout the year. I just hate that I've got to wait more than 11 months to get back to the event!
SAFD: Considering Dopey for me. DS will be 18 and wants to do the Marathon but is a hard no on Dopey.

Secondary question: with registration coming up, I had, in the past a pre-fill tool for registering, I believe it came from the teamrundis website but that seems to be defunct. Did anyone remember this, am I correct that this is gone?

How did you secure your bib through them? I'm on their race page and don't see an option to sign up.
I ran with them last MW so I had early access!
Get a celebration button at the start of the trip and wear it at all times! I got so many comments and had some great conversions thanks to mine this past weekend.
Smart! Will do. I think I have some blank ones so I will try to make a fancy one… I’ve been working on the calligraphy style they use at the shop.

Why do you say getting into Dopey is unlikely?

I haven’t registered in a rD race in five years. Why do folks make it sound so foreboding now?
I haven’t had any issues in the last 5 years. By the time I get through the queue, there might be something sold out but I was always still able to register for the race I wanted. However, something seemed different with W&D last month. I saw a lot more complaints of not getting registered. It’s hard to quantify, so really just anecdotal but it does make me uneasy.

I've been entering these races almost every year since 2014, and the last few years I wouldn't have been able to get into a challenge if I wanted to. A few times I only got in at all because a kind soul shared a queue id with me on here.
I did get lucky with one of my devices last MW and got in early enough that I could have gotten any race I wanted.. but I only wanted to do the marathon. I did get to register my friend for Dopey though. I'm thinking lightning won't strike twice for me. But maybe! I'm not totally pessimistic but not feeling at all certain that I will get into Dopey.

I think the biggest issue for a lot of us for W&D was the inability to share Queue IDs. I know that has saved me in the past but now we're basically on our own unless you're paired up with others who can also register you depending who gets through first. If you compare the 2025 and 2026 sellout times for W&D they aren't that different- it's just that those of us here always had the chance to grab a queue ID from a kind community member. I had already locked in my MW bib via charity before the W&D registration opened - but it certainly made me realize it was the right decision.

As it stand right now it's essentially a lottery once 10am hits. But that doesn't mean you won't get what you want- just that there's less options if you aren't one of the lucky ones with a "less than an hour" wait.

Yeah. It existed but is now gone.

Never forget:

(Also the overall popularity of big running events has increased a lot post-covid)
As traumatic of a registration this was (the hours delay meant I was registering WHILE leading a call and sharing my screen), it was my first Dopey and I was one of the few that loved the gaudy, neon theming :rotfl2:

SAFD: I have been at WDW for 10 MW and hoping to return for my 11th MW in 2027!

Goofy is my first choice, Dopey is backup, marathon only if those two fail - although if I end up with just the marathon I will probably try to get a 10K bib thru a charity.

I have already been looking at a few charities in case things go badly on registration day. I hate how stressful it has become :sad2:

SAFD:
2027 will be my 6th MW and my 9th rD event.
I was going to do just the marathon and finally ride Everest, and maybe RnR the "new" Muppet themed coaster, but now DS2 says he wants to run the Half, so I guess I'm now looking at the Half for him and the Goofy for me. I think he's a bit unsure of being out on the course without me, which is fine because I'll be a really happy camper to have my son with me the whole way. OTOH we have a 10K this coming weekend and he's going to totally leave my butt in the dust.

In other business:
  • I'll be taking bets on whether or not @Herding_Cats ends up at WDW in January 2027.
  • Hoping @PrincessV is there because:
    • it still cracks me up that we spent so much time talking in the corral and didn't connect the dots until afterward. (In all fairness, she may have connected the dots at the time, but I didn't.) and,
    • Good to hear that some of her medical maladies are behind her, and wishing her better running in the coming days.

SAFD:
If the registration gods are smiling on me, I'll run the marathon in 2027. If they're feeling tricky, I'd probably sign up for Goofy but need to finalize that plan.

(@camaker if you think it'd be a good fit, here's a possible SAFD future question: what Disney character personifies the experience of registration?)

February totals:
55 miles
26.2 of those miles were in my second marathon! Things went well enough at WDW in January that I registered for my home marathon for middle of February. I signed up 48 hours before the race after watching the forecast and deciding it was worth it (I had been planning for about 2 weeks). It was cool having miles 8-15 be my training grounds, but I feel like I've been tapering and recovering forever. Looking forward to getting back into regular training.

Jumping back in after a couple of weeks away due to vacation/family birthdays. So much has happened - it took forever to catch up reading!

SAFD: Hoping to be back for Dopey #2! We will see what happens on registration day. I’d also be happy with Goofy. Still debating a charity bib , but kinda dropped the ball in all the crazy here.

Firstly, thank you so much! And I didn’t connect the dots until well into the race - it is an actual fact that I seem totally coherent pre-race but my brain doesn’t actually start functioning until the sun rises lol!
