Marathon Weekend 2025

Like others said, best night of sleep the whole trip. Went to bed after the Commanders/Bucs game and just woke up. I will take that! Packing up now and headed to MCO in about 2 hours.

I think this was probably the best MW for me out of all. After last years food poisoning that made me miss the 5k, my goal was to come out and really have four really good runs. Three out of four were PR’s. So definitely proud of that.

Also, making three out of four days to the meet up had a lot to do with making it a memorable weekend. My goal there was to actually make some connections where I actually come back in future years and walk right up and it not feel like I was stranger again. Thanks to everyone that I saw again from last year, got to know better this year, and new people I met this year. Listening to everyone’s stories and different roads they take to get here is so cool. Z-Knight - Thank you again so much for the custom Dopey medal. It is so cool. It is definitely going up on my rD shelf/display!

I wish I could make it to DATW today, but unfortunately work calls and I have to get back home. I hope you guys have a great time celebrating the runs, memories, and friendships! You all deserve it.

My wife and I had talked about this possibly being the last MW for a couple of years. After yesterday, she told me she knew that it is not going to be the case. So fingers crossed for April that I can get into Dopey again!

If you guys ever are going to be in the Houston area (hopefully not doing a run during the summer, LOL), please feel free to reach out.

I've seen a few people mention hiding results - how do I do that? Is it too late now theres a PDF of Dopey results on the website?

I'm sick of all my running friends giving me grief over times, not understanding what these events are about,
Probably a feature of TrackShack, they give you the option of “verifying” yourself so I’d guess you can set it up so your results won’t be public.

I looked for something like that and couldnt find it. Presumed I wasnt famous enough but saw someone on here said they'd did it.

Congrats to all who finished. I'm planning on MW 2026.
To that end, I have a question about DATW. Roughly how many people usually do it (from our forums)? How long does it last?
I'm not much of a drinker, but I'd love to spend more time with the gang and not sure whether to extend my visit an extra day next year instead of driving home first thing Monday morning.
DATW starts at 11 and runs until we run out of people or countries. It's hard to put a solid number on it. Think of it more as a "drop in, drop out" event than a "must be there for the duration" event. We post on here when we go from country to country so late arrivals or returnees can find us.

Attendance can vary widely from year to year, as well, and can range from just a few folks to a pretty good crowd. Numbers have been trending up the last couple of years and we'll see what this year brings in just a bit.

Don't worry about not being a drinker, either. You can drink as much or as little as you want. I'm not a drinker at all. DATW is literally the only day of the year that I drink alcohol. I'll usually get a margarita in Mexico to nurse and then maybe an Italian margarita halfway through. If I'm really feeling it, maybe something in France, too. It's definitely a "you do you" situation

Come on out, it's a fun, relaxing way to close out Marathon Weekend!

I am still pretty far behind, hope to catch up once home. Won’t be at DATW, kids left last night and wife and I have a day together at the park today!

I finished, will provide an update later, lots of stories. @camaker hope your leg is a quick recovery and sorry to hear you had to pull out.

Congrats to the finishers and my eyes are already planted on 2025!

What a fun day! Great to hear about people’s stories, especially athletes that pulled each other through the tough parts. @rick1zoo2, so sorry about how the injury and hope your wife recovers ok.

Thoughts on Dopey and the marathon: super fun, overall!! It’s marathon twenty something for me and definitely a unique one. I enjoyed the strategic challenges of the back to back races. I absolutely loved the 5k and 10k courses.

Mostly, I loved training in tandem with a group online and on podcasts. Just a lovely community. The closest experience to this was living in NY while training for the NYC marathon and participating in the training runs in Central Park.

I didn’t love the amount of highway running in the half and full marathons, and the cost of the races/hotels etc but I love Disney so…

This is a great challenge.

@Lemon Head I think you can visit runner relations at the Expo to have your tracking hidden. I imagine influencers do it for privacy reasons.

@Mr. lncredible I will be drinking liquid IV around the world and while eating a baguette from France. :D
I’ve got my big water bottle, and will have a full popcorn bucket, so I’ll be alternating alcohol and water in an effort to stay upright.

Lazarus Lake. You can look him up on wiki. He is the creator of a race called the Barkley Marathon. It has bizarre rules. He also does Big’s Backyard Ultra. This is the race that never ends.
I didn't realize who he was! I saw him Saturday too.
Also if u have the chance to get a Cabin at Copper Creek with your own private hot tub... do it
Ha! We had a disboards WISH reunion last night...."vintage" folks from 20 years ago. We had it in one of the cabins. Very nice (if stupidly expensive)

Thanks everyone for your kind words about erika10021. It’s also very encouraging reading about everyone’s experiences here before the races and during this weekend.

Last week we had added a few days to the trip, but decided to head home today since she can’t ride TRON or Flight of Passage…just kidding. Overall a great trip. We will be back for Princess Half Marathon.

Side note: If you ever have any medical issues while staying at Disney Resorts, Disney partners with Advent Health. They have a van to transport to and from their urgent care. Also, you can have prescriptions or any other medications delivered. Contact front desk and they can help with all of that.

P.s. add Imodium to the list of things to carry during the race.IMG_2407.jpeg

I saw it at the bottom of the race tracking page. The page has changed now that the weekend is over. I believe it said to email trackshack to have them removed.

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention, was thinking about grabbing a beer for the last Epcot mile, got in, and didn't see anywhere where they were selling beer, also didn't see ANYONE stopping anywhere for one, which surprised me a bit. Was like ok fine, maybe for the better (I really didn't know how I'd feel carrying a fullish beer for the last of 26 miles). Finally, just before exiting Epcot, there was a vendor and I stopped long enough to see there was a vendor and on the menu was Blue Moon. Do I want to ask if they're actually selling this at 9:50 am? I think about it and ehhhh.... no. My stomach is struggling a bit so I decide to pass on what would be a final fun finish line photo op.

And then about a minute later I see a guy who DID inquire, DID get the beer and is now struggling mightily to avoid spilling it. It looked like a big beer! Definitely bigger than a standard pint, unless my eyes were deceiving me (it was mile 26 after all). Anyway, if you're looking in the future, that might be an option.
