Marathon Weekend 2025

Not great photos because we were in motion, but someone in the Gaston line had a whole list. Who said Scrooge and Jack Skellington for SAFD??

Per RD CM they were prepared for 16,700ish runners to start today.

Not too sure on this new course, but I am a creature of habit. I dropped back to C (we started in wave 2) to run with friends and it was a bottleneck nightmare from the start. There just wasn’t enough areas on the course for runners to spread out. There were multiple areas where it took less effort (and faster) for me to just walk than do that uncomfortably slow run-shuffle.
Didn't RunDisney used to have 20,000+ runners in both the half and full? If so, how did they manage it with course crowding?

Disney Marathon Draws Record Number of Runners Despite Freezing Weather

January 12, 2010

The 2010 Disney Marathon Weekend took place in Orlando on Saturday and Sunday with more than 55,000 runners participating despite the freezing temperatures, which dipped into the 20s. The full marathon on Sunday served as the final of six races—including a half marathon and Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge—that took place throughout the weekend, and had the largest turnout in the weekend’s history.

“We changed the course for the 2009 race and [used that] as a test year to make sure it could handle more runners and then increased the capacity for this year,” said the marathon’s event manager, Michelle Maready, who added that capacity, and participation, for the half and full marathons each increased from 17,500 in 2009 to about 23,500 this year.

DW and I did the 5K as our First WDW Marathon Weekend Event and nearly froze to death that Friday Morning and it was much warmer than Sunday's Marathon. The MEMORIES :cool1::cool1:

Too late to tell the marathoners, I know, but I’ll be cheering from EP instead of DHS today. My Goofy friend was injured in the half yesterday and won’t be running today so I opted to get a bit more sleep. Not sure if I can bring my sign into EP, but I’m cheering for all of you - LFG!

On the course congestion from someone who always winds up in the thick of it… it’s been this way for many years. It’s never going to change. It drives me nuts, too. I’ve had to work hard to accept that it’s inevitable and I’m probably never again going to run a Disney race at my own pace with room to move how I want. My choices are deal with it and walk a whole lot more than I’d like, or do a ton of weaving and get frustrated, or not do the races. At W&D, I opted for weaving and frustration and had a terrible time. Yesterday, I opted to go with the flow and have fun with my friend and enjoyed myself. But I’ve also cut WAY back on race registrations. At my age and with the body I have to work with, getting faster isn’t on the table, so choices must be made, because rD isn’t likely to make changes to help.

Not my day. Hamstring decided it was no longer a load-bearing muscle group coming through Epcot. Had to pull myself at the mile 4+ medical tent. Just got back to the room.

Saw a bunch of folks go by as I was waiting and said hello to @Herding_Cats when she paused there. Good luck to everyone! Stay warm!
