Marathon Weekend 2017!

I'd take that over what we have. Currently snowing after it snowed 5 inches yesterday. This will be another 3-4. Currently 17 degrees but tomorrow the high... 1... 1 Degree! With probably a wind chill in the -20s. I'm so ready for Florida.

All this talk about freezing weather and tomorrow I'm running the Mt.Dora half marathon which is 30 minutes north of Disney and its supposed to reach a high of 85 with a heat index of 90.Luckily its only a half so we'll be done before the worst of the heat starts.

Well the weather people were completely wrong. I got my whole run in with no thunderstorms and it only rained on me about 1/4 of a mile. It was pretty much a perfect running day. 50-60's, cloud cover, light breeze. DH rode his bike with me the first 15, then I finished up the last 10 on my own. I listened to every playlist on my phone lol. Yay for taper time! I know a lot of you don't go that high in mileage but my JG plan called for 26 so I compromised with 25. But while I was obsessing over the weather I forgot to check what time sunrise was lol. We got out there way too early and had to sit in the truck a half hour! We have no street lights out here. :)

In Little Rock here. Started around 7:30 and enjoyed the first half of my 22 but the clouds largely burnt off by the end and it was over 70 by the time I got back to the car. After the last few weeks, my body wasn't quite ready for that shock. Perhaps it'll help in FLA?

Alright everyone, as promised I will put together a spreadsheet that has everyone that wishes to participate in the spreadsheet's information on it. We do this as a means to help people find each other on race day at either the pre-race/post-race meet-ups, in the corrals, or just by chance on the course. I will ask for information and you can choose to provide or not provide any information as you desire. The only key parts are Dis name, corral, and pace. All others are optional. This will also be helpful to your family and spectators because it provides "time of day" markers for when you should reach different milestones based on your estimated pace and starting time (corral).

So for every race that you plan to participate in (so Goofy and Dopey people I need each race, 5k, 10k, HM, M...) please provide me the following:

RACE -
NAME -
DIS'er name -
Costume/Clothing -
Corral -
Early Bird or Late Arriver -
Front, Middle, or Back of corral -
Expected Pace -

I will compile everyone's response into a single spreadsheet and then distribute this when we get closer to race day. As for the optional items, the following reasons have been given for why someone may choose not to provide:

NAME - because I want internet anonymity

Corral: If you know now that you will be starting in a different corral than assigned, then give me the corral you plan to start in.
Early Bird or Late arriver just means whether you think you'll arrive to the meet-up/corrals early in the race morning or late in the race morning.
Front, Middle, Back of corral just means where you plan on lining up when the race starts. This helps people find you easier in a crowd if say two people are in corral E, that are early birds, and front people. Then I'd look for your costume on race day.

Once I "like" your post with the above information in it I have added you to the compiled list.

I will combine this with the meet-up information from the previous post once finalized. Link

RACE - 5k
NAME - Ray
DIS'er name - Mr IncredibleS1

I'm planning on slowing down as I go. The costumes may change depending on the weather. Now where is that beer stop?:drinking1

How does your body react on drinking a beer at Mile 25? My fear is, that I could mess up everything, doing that "stunt" at this time of the race and not be able to finish the race.

I like beer but I rarely drink it (prefer wine) and I had a Schöfferhofer in Germany during the 2016 marathon - it was fantastic! No ill or adverse effects. But if you're worried, maybe try a beer after a long run at home and see how it goes?

Somewhat of an off-topic question: when does Disney remove/stop illuminating the Castle Dream Lights? Since they're still up for the races, I was curious if they're still lit at night and for how longish. Thanks! :)

Having one after doesn't do much to practice for having one during the race. :)

Germany is about half a mile from the finish. A few sips of beer won't be enough to keep you from getting there. A full liter, on the other hand, is not recommend without trying it at least once in training. :drinking1

MagicBand: I do, but mostly so I don't have to bag drop with my wallet, etc., in to get back to my room. Also, I buy a drink on the course past Mile 25, so it just makes it easier.

Timing Mats: For the Marathon, they are at 5 Miles, 10 Miles, Half, 20 Miles, Finish

He can sign up for Runner Tracking here.

You missed one other reason to wear your MagicBand @Keels ...FP+ for ToT and RnRC! Guessing if @Wendy98 doesn't want to stop for characters then rides are probably out of the question...

Guys, I am a complete disaster and my splits in my training runs are like... 12, 10, 13, 9, 15... LOL. So I know I would be a horrendous run buddy. But I'm still up for it!! (Uh, if you are, after that sterling recommendation I've just given myself.)
Let's try to keep each other at an even pace! If you do bust out a 9 minute mile, I'll just try to catch up with you when you have a 15 :tiptoe:

Good morning, runDisney All-Stars!

It's sitting at a balmy -11 here in Iowa with a projected hi of -3. I'm glad I got my run in yesterday.

Three weeks to go! In recognition of the holiday season, this week's Sundays are for Disney question is: What is on your marathon weekend wishlist? It can be running related, Disney-related or something else, but what are you hoping for during the race weekend?

My wishlist:
- Avoid multiple, epic meltdowns with the toddler at the park.
- Finish my first marathon on both feet.
- FINALLY see and photograph IllumiNations
- Get some quality alone time at MK at night after DW and DD have gone to bed.
- Ride Splash Mountain multiple times.

If I haven't said it before John, I want to join your training group :thumbsup2

- Get a new proof of time during the half
- Have as much fun as possible as part of #TeamKeels
- A new menu at V&A from when we were there in November
- Lots of fun, laughs, and new friends during DATW

If I haven't said it before John, I want to join your training group :thumbsup2

You're welcome any time! As much as it annoys some of my more serious tri friends, if I couldn't have fun while training (like a beer in the middle of Beach to Beacon back in August), training wouldn't be any fun. Standard disclaimer applies*

*Note: this may not be the case when I sign up for my next IM and target under 12

Besides all of the race-related goals (wait, my only race-related goals revolve around thrill rides and alcohol...), my biggest goal is keeping the trip a secret from the kids until Christmas. They know Mom and Dad are going to WDW without them (AGAIN!) but we have decided to surprise them with the trip. Have them both signed up for the Mickey Mile as well, really looking forward to it.

Another goal will be seeing my wife complete Dopey...she works hard and I'm thrilled to be able to share this with her.

Also can't wait to meet all y'all down there, seems like we've been friends for ages and it's going to be awesome meeting so many of you IRL :disrocks:

Wish List:
1. Survive and complete Dopey. Test run did not go well yesterday with the knee pain kicking in after a mile or so. PT is now advising me to find an ortho with a cortisone shot for it. Back to the exercises and elliptical for now.

2. Meet a lot of the fine folks from here and put faces and names with the screen names.

FUN! I actually signed up for the half through a club on a whim - I'm doing the Rebel Challenge the following weekend, so my main goals are doing those character stops I regret not doing last January and enjoying the Main Street USA jaunt. Also excited to spectate the marathon! We'll be somewhere around BWI after our breakfast at YC with signs and goodies!

i moved here from Colorado to get away from the snow and cold so I hear ya. But the temperature dropped about 45 degrees in just a few minutes. That's insane! :)

That's what I'm hoping for!I started at sunrise so it was just getting hot and humid when I finished! I am ready to run on a flat course! Are you running Little Rock in March?
