Marathon Weekend 2017!

My wishlist is:

Finish my first marathon standing up.

Not be sore so I can enjoy the last 7 days of our vacation after the marathon!

Maybe ride EE during the race (still debating that one. I'd rather ride RnR coaster but scared to venture that far off course and of the pre ride show taking too long.)

Meet as many of you guys as possible! Wish I was gonna be there for the BC meet up.

Three weeks to go! In recognition of the holiday season, this week's Sundays are for Disney question is: What is on your marathon weekend wishlist? It can be running related, Disney-related or something else, but what are you hoping for during the race weekend?

My wishlist:
  • Beat my brother in all four Dopey races
  • Run my first marathon in less than 4 hours
  • Make quality memories with my son on his first trip to Disney (bough at 7 months he won't remember it)

Is there anywhere a complete list of Marathon participants and where they are from?

@DopeyBadger is compiling a list of DIS users, but it doesn't include where they're from.

Oh our babes are the same age almost! Is your son crawling? I'm thinking about where we might take my daughter to crawl around some.

My goals:
- it's been a rough training year so finish Goofy feeling good enough to enjoy the rest of our vacation
- have a wonderful vacation with my kids
- meet some great Dis'ers

Somewhat of an off-topic question: when does Disney remove/stop illuminating the Castle Dream Lights? Since they're still up for the races, I was curious if they're still lit at night and for how longish. Thanks! :)
They stop turning them on around the 15th. At least that's what they did last year. They won't get taken down until end of January, early February when they bring the crane in.

I have an idea. What if we tied a small colored ribbon to one of the holes in our bib to distinguish our Disboards members? In case we miss the meet up and/or the pre-race meet up? I belonged to a group where we all added a laminated green mickey head with our disname to our backpack to spot fellow members.

Or something else to be able to find each other? Maybe a Mickey head sticker on our bib?

Wish list:

Not exhaust myself the days before the marathon. Combining Disney and marathoning is a new experience for me. I want to do so much there!

Finish top 6 overall amongst women or top 3 masters (advantage of getting old)--you get an award. I think a Disney award would be extra special.

Avoid any GI catastrophes. Racing a marathon wrecks havoc on my stomach. I don't want an iffy stomach for my celebratory dinner.

I don't have a specific time goal, although 3-3:10 is kind of where I am aiming.

Avoid injury. My next goal marathon is in April--Boston. I will be racing for time and place.

He isn't crawling quite yet. He's right in the verge of it. He's able to push up to his hands and knees, but hasn't quite figured out the movement yet. Hopefully he figures it out soon or it may be an uneventful diaper dash for him.

Have you tried Tailwind? One of its core strengths is not causing stomach problems or GI issues.

Oh my sweetness, I had no idea there was a crawling one! Just signed up for Friday, what day are you doing it? My daughter only army crawls but she is fast as heck, hahaha.

-Finish with no injuries. That goes for every race I've ever entered.
-Don't get disappointed when things don't go as well as planned. I've had a rough year of training so things aren't going to be as pretty as I'd once hoped. I want to stay positive even though I'm not going to be running the PR's I once expected.
-Have a great time with my nieces and nephews at WDW. We are doing our entire vacation before the races, so it will be interesting to see how that works as a taper. Hopefully concerns over race performance won't damper any enthusiasm during the rest of the trip.

This list has all participants including city, state (or international is just city).

We'll be somewhere around BWI after our breakfast at YC with signs and goodies!

I can create a special sheet for you that sorts all DIS'ers by time of day to arrive at Boardwalk (mile 24.4). Just let me know if you're interested. Same goes for anyone else that has a known stake out spot that will be looking for DIS'ers.

That's a fantastic idea. You make the plan and we'll pass it along. Try to think of something super easy for us to all institute without much extra effort.

1) To see my daughter, Gigi, enjoy another Disney trip. She is anxiously awaiting Christmas because Santa is bringing her a watch (Magicband) that takes her to Disney World.

2) For good weather on Kids race day (Friday or Saturday). We've been burned twice (frozen or down pour) and it makes for a sad experience. So, if I get anything I want this.

3) Sextuple PR Dopey Challenge completion. I am making my 3rd attempt at this. I try to lifetime PR all 6 events (5k, 10k, HM, M, Goofy, and Dopey) as non-first attempts at these distances. Hence, it's my 3rd attempt at this but my 4th Dopey (because the first doesn't count because first attempts at Goofy/Dopey being auto PRs). Although the first year was the closest I came just missing out on a HM PR. Given my current fitness and how my October marathon PR went, I feel as if this will be my best chance at getting this elusive goal to this point in my life.

4) Break 6 hours for cumulative Dopey time. 2014 was 8 hours and change. 2015 was 7 hours and change. 2016 was 6 hours and change. So why not go for 2017 as 5 hours and change. This one will be super tough for me to get.

5) Finish Top 50 in cumulative Dopey time.

6) Age group award at 10K (Male 30-34). It's possible, but will be very tough for me to get 3rd place. But I'm going for it.

I set goals within reach and out of reach to continue to have something to strive for. Always setting my #goals.

Thank you! My parents are house-sitting while we're in Cali and are brand-new AP-holders. My mom really wants to see the lights and it sounds like it's possible. Thank you!!

Also, seems appropriate to pull this out now.

Marathon Weekend Goals

Marathon Weekend Goals

Now that registration is out of the way for most of us, I'd love to hear your goals for Marathon Weekend. Here's how I see goals. They're personal. You chose it because that goal means something to you. It's important to you. Which means your goal is important to me. No goal is too big or too small. The person's goal to finish their first 5K and another's to take down Michael Wardian's Dopey World Record are equally important to me. So, I'd love to hear yours. And yes, even the super secret I don't want to admit it goals. :teeth:

Here are some ideas if you haven't thought about it:

Finish my first: 5K, 10K, Half, Full, Goofy, Dopey
Finish with a time goal
Run a race with a family member
Overcome an adversity in your life
Drink a beer or margarita at a certain mile marker
Participate in DATW (Drinking Around the World) *Happens on Monday in EPCOT (ask @FFigawi about it)
Beat a family member
Get as many character photos as possible
Get a character photo with a certain character
Do lots of park time and enjoy the races
Have fun

So, let's hear them! What's your goal?

On April 27th, 2016 I posted the following in this thread (~3,600 posts ago). So how does this compare to today? I've included a file with short summary answers of everyone if you don't want to go searching through the old thread posts.

Good luck with all of those goals!

That would be awesome!! I'll also put some sort of DIS bat-signal on our signs. Which if nothing else will freak out DH! :littleangel:
