One more quick question...What is physically separating the corrals? A big barrier, a simple rope, human security? Do they drop the barriers right before start time? I hate that moment when everyone behind me pushes up against my back. This past year in Chicago, I was ready to take a few men out for trying to walk over me when they dropped the barriers.

There are barriers & then when they move those there are people that walk your corral up. Back corrals won't smash into you. Corral A will leave & B won't go for about 2 minutes after, still separated from A. The only people smashing would be people in A corral already, which hopefully doesn't happen. I've never been smashed in any corral (G & F for the marathon), unless you count corral jumpers this year at the marathon who jumped on me when they jumped the barrier. It always feels very gradual to me also on the corrals moving up, so you should be safe from smashing :)

Alright everyone, as promised I will put together a spreadsheet that has everyone that wishes to participate in the spreadsheet's information on it. We do this as a means to help people find each other on race day at either the pre-race/post-race meet-ups, in the corrals, or just by chance on the course. I will ask for information and you can choose to provide or not provide any information as you desire. The only key parts are Dis name, corral, and pace. All others are optional. This will also be helpful to your family and spectators because it provides "time of day" markers for when you should reach different milestones based on your estimated pace and starting time (corral).

So for every race that you plan to participate in (so Goofy and Dopey people I need each race, 5k, 10k, HM, M...) please provide me the following:

RACE -
NAME -
DIS'er name -
Costume/Clothing -
Corral -
Early Bird or Late Arriver -
Front, Middle, or Back of corral -
Expected Pace -

I will compile everyone's response into a single spreadsheet and then distribute this when we get closer to race day. As for the optional items, the following reasons have been given for why someone may choose not to provide:

NAME - because I want internet anonymity

Corral: If you know now that you will be starting in a different corral than assigned, then give me the corral you plan to start in.
Early Bird or Late arriver just means whether you think you'll arrive to the meet-up/corrals early in the race morning or late in the race morning.
Front, Middle, Back of corral just means where you plan on lining up when the race starts. This helps people find you easier in a crowd if say two people are in corral E, that are early birds, and front people. Then I'd look for your costume on race day.

Once I "like" your post with the above information in it I have added you to the compiled list.

I will combine this with the meet-up information from the previous post once finalized. Link

Thank you for doing this!

After a chat with @FFigawi, I think we're in agreement on "hosting" a meet-up at Beach Club!

Friday, 2 p.m., at Hurricane Hannah's - it's the pool bar accessible from the Boardwalk loop. We'll be in the bar area, but can also spread out into the table area.

I'll post updates closer to the date if there is inclement weather.

If you're planning to drop by, please let me know so I can give the bar a heads-up!
Unless something changes, I'm planning to be there.

I just want to go on the record as saying @Keels is awesome! Great resource person!

Agreed.

We have a beer stop at mile 24.5 and will likely refill at La Cava on our way by, right @Keels?

This kind of makes me want to do the full even though I am trained for the half. Just walking through the course with my margarita, NOTHING TO SEE HERE SPECTATORS. Carry on. Maybe even sprinkle in some random pointing and oh hey, there you are!'s as people wonder why there is a booze run happening. (ETA - I envision being pretty much alone on the course at this point, a one woman party in a race bib)

We've got a good start to our DIS list!

5k - 15 runners
10k - 15 runners
HM - 30 runners
M - 30 runners

But we had many more last year so keep them coming everyone! I can think of a few people I haven't heard from yet.

In case you don't want to go back to find the original post. Link

Any good resources out there for spectators or any advice on here? My wife and our 2-year-old are going down and staying at Pop Century. I've already told her I don't expect her to get up and watch me early on, but it would be nice to see them later along the course and then meet up at the finish.

I was thinking either Wild World of Sports since it's close to Pop or maybe they could get over to Boardwalk for breakfast and watch me go by there? My wife is not a seasoned Disney traveler, can get stressed when things don't go smoothly and will have a 2-year-old with her, so I want to make this as easy as possible on her.

Links? Advice? Thanks in advance!

The event guide has a good section on spectators. My family has seen me at the intersection of AoA and WWOS twice (around mile 17). Although it appears they're cracking down a bit more on this intersection and spectators (more police presence) and there are no sidewalks to this intersection (so it's grass walking and cutting through a landscaping fence). The other issue with viewing here is given your pace they will find it tough to make it to the finish line to see you cross there as well.

My best advice for a non-seasoned vet of Disney is for her to just head to the finish line. Bus takes you right there and plenty of time to get there in advance of you finishing.

Agreed @Wendy98. I've found the corrals at marathon weekend (I was in C last year) to be mostly cordial and very little jockeying for position right before the start. You'll only deal with the ~500 in corral A, as B is held behind you with volunteers and a rope and then start ~2 min later. This is a true wave staggered start with most corrals getting their own set of fireworks (at least in the past).

I'm a little disappointed that you're even having to ASK me this question. :drinking1

Wife and I will be stopping for Mexico margaritas too and if I have anything to do with it there will be a beer stop as well. Something tells me I might need to drag @FFigawi and @Keels off their bars stools at La Cava and remind them them that they still need to finish the marathon"..either that or just pull up a stool beside them ;)

I don't think you have to worry about that ... just a quick pit stop at La Cava for a delicious San Angel Inn - we've got parking-lot beers to get to at the Finish Line!

Since you're running a 9-9:30/mile, I think you'll cross through Animal Kingdom too early for Mile 14 to be a possibility, unfortunately, because that would be the easiest spot if they wanted to see you two places (on-course and crossing the finish line).

Anywhere around the Boardwalk will work, but they likely won't be able to see you cross the Finish Line.

Maybe someone else knows more, but I *want* to say that this year, people staying at Pop were out along Osceola Parkway - like maybe they just walked out the car gate or popped through the bushes. I'll do some Googling to see if I can figure out how they did this and will report back - that would OBVIOUSLY be the easiest thing to do. Then, they can just hop a bus and head to see you cross the finish line.

I don't think there is any way for Spectators to get to Wide World of Sports - at least transportation-wise. They could walk, but that would be a crazy walk.

Sweet! Maybe @pixarmom, @*DisneyDreamer, and @opusone would join us for a WI/Ill race of some sort.

I'm in! Anticipating post-Dopey sadness, I just added a bunch of potential 2017 half marathons to the calendar! And I may have added Lakefront Marathon . . . just in case.

My best advice for a non-seasoned vet of Disney is for her to just head to the finish line. Bus takes you right there and plenty of time to get there in advance of you finishing.

I completely agree with this advice. If a spectator is not familiar with Disney and may get stressed by uncertainty (especially when traveling with a little one!) then I'd suggest bus to the finish line. (The exception may be for those staying at Poly, and then I'd recommend TTC, outside of Poly and monorail to finish line.) With a little one, I'd also suggest a blanket for the ground and a bag of snacks and toys - at least we know that's critical for our youngest son while he's waiting.

I've mentioned my family's 2015 marathon spectating experience before, and even knowing Disney really well, they had difficulty getting to the planned meeting places. They DID unexpectedly see a WWOS bus at Poly and my husband and middle son hopped on - they met me in two different places at WWOS. Entirely random and unplanned, but they decided to do that when no DHS or AK buses appeared within the necessary timeframe. For me as a runner, WWOS is definitely the best place to see my family on the course. But even though Disney provided bus transportation from Poly to WWOS and then WWOS to Epcot on that day at that time, I'm not sure what the situation will be this year. So they will surprise me! On the other hand, if your family is not feeling great about surprises, or developing and implementing a Plan B, (or C, or D or E) the finish line is the most secure option!

To watch at the corner of Victory Way & Osceola, their best bet would be to walk to Art of Animation (over the bridge) first to cutoff a lot of road walking as POP is farther in on Victory Way. Not sure where the best spot to pop out from would be & with a 2 year old would be still a hike on busy roads, there are no sidewalks. My sister-in-law drove to AK this year & saw both of my brothers come trough the parking lot (I was too slow for her to wait for me), then drove to EPCOT to see them in the park by the ball. Now taking buses, an AK bus could pick up as early as 7/7:30 due to breakfast reservations there, so they could take a bus to AK but that could risk missing you depending on your pace/start time & buses are prone to not coming as early as you want. Then they would bus directly to EP to see you finish or in the park. The easiest & less stressful would be just to have them bus to EP & see you somewhere in the park or at the finish probably.

Top two are from Disney World last year. The orange barrier was up first and then when it became time to move us forward towards the start they moved that out of the way and the rope replaced it. Volunteers held it (though if you were at the front of the corral you could hold it too) as we walked forward.

Also seen the silver fence barriers seen here at Avengers 2015 used at Disneyland.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone! I'm just going to have my wife go directly to Epcot. Sounds like that's the path of least resistance. Will they be able to spectate from world showcase and how long will it take to get from pop into the park?

Also, had a cold and snowy 20 miles this morning. 16 degrees. My water bottles froze, as did my face mask. Glad to have that done and ready to punch my ticket to Taper Town! Bring on Florida!

Lakefront, huh.... I wonder if we know anyone else considering that one... :D

LOL! All because there's a method to the madness. If you think that's intense try answering the 20 questions I ask from people who want a custom training plan! Or take a peek at my massive collection of running related spreadsheets. SO MANY SPREADSHEETS! #MATH!

No need to apologize. I'll admit one of the reasons I put this list together is to help pull the lurkers out of the shadows. We're all a team no matter how much or little you contribute. So welcome and stay awhile. We were all lurkers at one point (I was for about 1-2 years before first posting)

Good plan! She can see you in World Showcase as long as she has a park ticket. Based on your estimated pace the park will be open. If she doesn't have a park ticket, the viewing at the finish line is free.
