Marathon Weekend 2016

Wow, that was incredible! Lots of fun and I got 13 photos with characters while still hitting a 3:52. Boy it was humid though, last 6 miles were tough.

On a side note, can anyone identify who this character was around mile 25?

She's at PHM, too. Her name is Ivana. Today as we were going by and people were asking who she was, she said, "I'm the Marathon Fairy Godmother, Ivana Cramp." LOL!

i will say one thing if you are slow, when you get to epcot there arent really lines for characters i got genie, Aladdin, fairy god mother, scrooge mulan, and snow white all with no line

Ah I missed Snow White. But I did get Alice however I don't think she was an official race stop (whoops) since they had Photopass (I have an AP so either way I was good) and not MarathonFoto with her. She was just off to the side of the bridge after we entered Epcot. Short line so it's all good.

Ivanas awesome (I have a photo with her at the 5th Princess and at the 2015 Marathon). Missed her this year since Fairy Godmother was out on rotation when I came through. Not that I'm complaining I've been chasing a photo with her in race gear since Princess 2012. I don't think I've sprinted that fast towards the back of Epcot in a long time. Took 4 years but I finally got it! Now if I could just get Hades finally.

I had a heat meltdown at mile 14 but the important thing is I finished.

Does anyone know what character was supposed to be out in the area with the glowing flames and the backdrop that looked like it had lava on it? It was the character stop just before the evil queen about mile 10. ( It would have been 2 before Jafar). Based on the backdrop Hades is the only thing I could think of.

It was a tough race. I think that was the most people I've seen being worked on by EMTs in a given race. Hope everyone is safe now.

The character wasn't out when I came by, but I assumed it was Hades' domain as well.

Congratulations! I was wondering how you made out in the full today!

Not my best race,2nd slowest of 6 fulls with only my first being slower.I give credit to using a pair of newish shoes I had only gone up to 6 miles on,they were fine at first but once I got to mile 16-17 they started bothering me and giving me the start of a blister on the bottom of my foot. From that point on in the race I started walking more and more,I took preventive measures to be able to walk for the rest of my trip and walked like 80% of the last 4-5 miles.I also carry a mini bodyglide with me and put some on it but by the time I did it was too late.Overall I'm not complaining,I finished and was able to hit DHS tonight to see the Star Wars fireworks which were amazing by the way!!Just got back to POP,got some food at the food court to take back to the room and overall I'm not upset.First race ever I have an issue with a blister but the way I look at I rather finish in 5:40 instead of my expected 5:10-5:15 and be walking afterwards. It never got to the point that it was painful while running, just a discomfort but like I said the time I finish is not my main priority, just finishing is,I PR'd my last full in November at Space Coast, not my best race there either but it was a PR nonetheless,it just shows me how much room I have for improvement in fulls.I do so many more half's and I can run them hard the whole way, fulls are another thing,I have improved in time every single full I've done but the blister today put a stop to that streak.

So humid at the beginning of the full. I two fisted through the water stops, one powerade and one water. Finished my goofy with a 3:56 marathon and a bunch of character pics so I'm very happy. My knee held up very well and in fact felt worse in the half slowing down for my kids. The experts were right: I didn't really lose my endurance conditioning in my 3 week layoff. Kept waiting for the bottom to drop out and it never did. Congrats to everyone!

For fun.

QOTD: Who is going to be walking a little funny today?

ATTQOTD: This guy. Also leg cramps on its a small world is going in the books as cruel and unusual punishment.

Nothing "funny" about my walking - unless you think a grown man waddling like a wounded duck around MK is "funny"...OK, I guess that will be kind of funny.

Quack quack!!!

Congrats Marathon Weekend runners! :cheer2:

Spent the weekend living vicariously, especially from all the posts in the various runDisney Facebook groups I'm part of! Hoping some of you will be sharing your experience via trip report? I'm all ears! (Yup- I went there :faint: )

I'll respond to everyone when I get home. I just wanted to say to everyone that finished, or did their best and didn't finish, this was a hard race. That humidity was awful. There are so many people who run this race so it is hard to run it for time. Be proud that you finished and enjoy the medal.

I don't know what my time was. I ran with a friend who was doing his first marathon. I just wanted to get him through it and he did. I told him it would be tough and hearing him talk about it last night was so funny as the soreness was setting in and he recalled the race.

QOTD:
I was be hobbling around for sure. Despite body gliding my feet AND liberal Vaseline between my toes I still got big blisters on my toes. I'm looking at them now. I think I need to go work on them to even be able to walk the parks. I was hoping to avoid that until I got home. OH WELL!

But this race was so much fun for me. It hurt but I knew it would so I didn't care. I had my gopro and I was having a blast.

More details to follow when I'm home.

Great job and congratulations to you all!
