Marathon Weekend 2016

RoadID will not have a booth at the expo.

I needed to replace my sports bracelet since i apparently snagged mine on something. I talked to their customer service Wednesday and asked them if they would be at Disney so i could buy my new band there and not worry about shipping to me.

I have had a RoadID sports band for 3 years now and it is never off of my wrist.

Do they do any expo's? Does anyone know?
Is this a hijack?!

ATTQOTD:
Wish I had a good one, but not really. My best running story was actually a race two years ago. Second half marathon ever - Garmin in Kansas City. Race started at 7 with great weather - overcast, mid 50s, no wind. First 4 miles or so were straight east and I was really finding my stride. Turned and headed south, only to see dark looming clouds coming in from the west. I'm a born and bred Midwesterner, so I knew it wasn't going to be good. By the time we headed west, into the storm, I was at mile 7 with sprinkles. By mile 8 I had definite rain. Mile 9 brought thunder and lightening. And to round it off, mile 10 meant being pelted with hail. Everything calmed back down by the time I hit the next mile so that the last 2 miles were just awful - cold, wet, and no adrenaline left. Needless to say, it was my PR for awhile. Unfortunate part is that the same race this year had thunderstorms about 2 hours into the race also. I'm convinced that race is cursed.

Two weeks ago I was stopped by the sheriff a half mile into a 22 mile run. It was 5am, I'm wearing blinky lights & running attire. He flipped on his lights & pulled his car up on the sidewalk blocking me in between his car & a boundary wall. Spent the next 10 minutes quizzing me on why am I running at this time of morning & then threatened me with a summons because I was not carrying my drivers license. I wear a roadID bracelet that has more info than my license. I was p*ssed & had an angry few miles after that.

That's really strange. I didn't know that running without a license was a real offense.
Next time I run by our local PD I will have to ask them.

Not often does one get to quote themselves :lmao:

I was out training on my bike tonight and did talk to a local officer. For running he said no although in the event of an emergency...

That is why i have ICE numbers along with some med info on my RoadID as Sostacey does.

Merch question:

Anyone remember how much the I Did It marathon shirts typically cost? Also, any chance that and the marathon magnet are still in stock when I arrive Sat AM?

A little bit off topic, but anyone have suggestions for FastPasses at DHS just based on what attractions usually have the longest lines. Our group doesn't necessarily need to do any one attraction but would like to do as many as we can, so just wondering where the most time might be saved. Thanks in advance for any help.

Good evening! I've enjoyed reading along with the QOTD and decided to chime in. I had an out of the ordinary event happen during a Saturday morning run recently. I typically run at a hospital down the road from me...not much traffic at all on the weekends. Anyhow, the roads have woods on either side. So I'm running along and this guy dressed in camo comes barreling out of the woods, carrying a rifle. He's in a full out sprint mind you...he runs down the road a bit, crosses the street and goes back into the woods on the other side of the road. I was starting to freak out a little when all of a sudden he comes plowing out of the woods on his four wheeler and drives off. An unauthorized deer hunter on private property! Took me by surprise for sure!

Good luck to you all at the races! We head down on Thursday from Louisiana...about 11 hours in the car for us. So incredibly excited!!! First marathon for me and I cannot wait!

Baton Rouge over here!

Toy Story Midway Mania!

Let me know if it has already been asked but... what's around for runners once they have completed the race? I haven't purchased a ticket to additional things after either of my races but will be waiting with my family for a friend to finish. Snacks n water? :)

Thanks! Ps. Good luck to everyone, I can't believe it's happening so soon!

TSMM for the tier 1. As for Tier 2 I would choose whatever you like best.

You can use all of the above but if you want to use your Disney Visa 10% discount you can only use rewards dollars and charge to the card (no gift cards). At least that's what they told me last time.

we can get the 10% off at the expo? I had no idea ...this could be trouble LOL but good to know we can use the rewards cards thanks for the response

Toy Story, Tower of Terror and Areosmith I would say are the top 3 maybe Star Tours as well...the problem with DHS now adays is there is so much LESS to do there until the new lands go up that I fear everything that is there now will have a fairly decent we are only doing a half day there and hitting some highlights and of course Fantasmic! I am actually making a separate playlist of just the finale song from Fantasmic and plan to start it during my final mile

Only problem is you can't get all three of those with the tiers. You can do TSMM, ToT and Star Tours but you can't do TSMM and RnRc because they are both tier 1.

Thanks for the input. Was thinking of Aerosmith from tier 1 and ToT and Star Tours from tier 2 without any personal knowledge. May switch to Toy Story, we have one in our group who isn't overly fond of thrill rides so that may work better to accommodate the full group.

Cheating a little bit, as this was a story from my last marathon training. I was in Honolulu for work and had an 18 mile run on the training schedule that weekend. Since the temp hits 80 the minute the sun come up on Oahu, I wanted to get an early jump since it was cold back home and my body wasn't used to the high temps. I hate early mornings, but knew I had to get out early.

I planned a nice route that followed the Ala Wai Canal for the first few miles. While listening to "3 Cabelleros" I hit one mile and all of a suddent my wedding ring slides off my finger. In slow motion, I notice it hit the sidewalk twice and 'kerplunk' into the Canal. I freak out immediately. There is about a 5 foot drop from the sidewalk to the water and a narrow ledge. I take my shoes and socks off and am standing on the ledge peering into the water. About a yard out, I see something yellow in the water. I am not sure how to get to it without getting in the water.

A local walks by and I ask if the canal is deep. She says, "Yes...and polluted." I decide I need to try to reach and step in the water. About an inch from a huge drop off, I am able to reach the ring. I was ecstatic and jumped back onto the sidewalk excitedly. A couple of tourist even walked by and took my picture it looked so strange.

So, I had my ring, but now had another 17 miles. I decide it was best to head back and shower. I then get dressed again and restart my 18 mile in the blazing sun, with my ring left in the hotel room. Since then, every time I run along that stretch, I keep my fist clenched.

I guess I could just get the ring resized, right?

QOTD Response:

I run around a lake here in Northern California early morning and at dusk so lots of animals. I often seem to run across families of animals - parents shepherding their young across the bike path or running trails. The usual suspects - families of deer, squirrels, quail, coyotes, raccoons, and turkeys.

The unusual? How about a family of rattlesnakes last summer looking to sun themselves on the rocks at the turnaround point I use when I run my 10k distance. Was totally surprised by that and got the tell-tale rattles about a half second prior resulting in a serious lateral jump out of the way to give them their space...

The worst? At dusk in November I was wrapping up my first 20 mile long run and it was later (read darker) than I expected...switched to the bike trail from the running trail and made realtime decision to run last mile and half cutting through a neighborhood so I would have street lights to finish run. Just before I reached the state park exit into the neighborhood, I see several sets of eyes reflecting the street light at entrance and I'm thinking cats as I've seen them in the neighborhood before. So...do black cats have white stripes down their back? You guessed it - two adult skunks with two little ones - one let loose but I was far enough away that I narrowly escaped direct hit but had to suffer running through the after-stench as the trail was way too dark to backtrack.

Fortunately I've never encountered mountain lions although signs are posted at all entrances to the parkway.

Dis Screen Name-John VN
Costume-something other than birthday suit
Corral-starting with Balloon Ladies
Early Bird or Late Arriver?-late as possible
Front Middle or Back of corral?-WAY-WAY back
Expected Pace-fast enough to exit course at mile 15 for a M&M McFlurry purchase at McDonald's then rejoin the race before the Balloon Ladies catch up. Will be 4th year doing this. Hoping to make it since last year was not too good and training has been very little. Did manage to overcome my prostate cancer issue I was diagnosed with last March so I am looking forward to giving it my best.

GOOD LUCK to ALL!!!!!
