Marathon Weekend 2016

I'll submit a proxy vote for the Hammer if it's Apple Cinnamon...tastes like apple sauce and similar in texture too!

A lot of people really liked that flavor

I still have a couple packets I'll bring them down. I'll be glad to pass them off to you if we can find a time to meet.

For those that are wondering the pizza flavor is like, just imagine if someone looked at toothpaste and thought man I should make this taste vaguely like bad pizza.

I will have to try the Apple Cinnamon.

The pizza really tasted that good :(. Wonder if minty fresh pizza would taste any better :lmao:

One absentee ballot for Clif chocolate. Tastes like fudge and is a bit thicker in consistency than some other flavors and brands. :thumbsup2

Another vote for the Clif chocolate. I also like the GU Chocolate Outrage. Can you tell I love chocolate. Now if only Hershey would put out a gel.

I'm doing IM Florida in November. Bahrain, Abu Dhabi ITU, and Dubai are only 70.3 right now. There aren't any full distance races in the Gulf yet. I thought about Europe or Australia, but the timing (11 months to train) and location (5-6 hour drive from our house near Cocoa) made Florida an easy choice. Plus it's easier for my friends to come and race with me.

I had to search for the Florida Ironman when you said it was 5 to 6 hours from you here. I had it confused with the Half Ironman in Haines City. I think that my new goal will now have to be the Florida Ironman in 2017.

Happy new year everyone!

QOTD: Over the last few months we have all had put in a lot of miles leading up to marathon weekend. During your runs, tell us about something out of the ordinary that you witnessed or had happen to you.

Was doing one of my 3am runs and it was super dark with the only light coming from occasional street lamps. I was doing my normal route in which I pass a newly developed commercial area. Next to the commercial area is a corn field which at the time was about waist high. As I came closer to it I could see what appeared to be a light moving around. I thought to myself what the heck is that at 3am in the middle of a corn field. As I got about 200-400 meters away from the light, I could tell it was 100% a flashlight, because it raised up and pointed directly at me. For about 2 seconds it was dead on me, and then "click" it was off. I was like f' this I'm out of here and ran like heck in the other direction. Never did figure out what that person was doing in the corn, all I knew was it couldn't have been good and I needed to get the heck out of there.

Hi, I'm running the marathon (my first) and just found this thread. I thought I'd say hi and thanks for all the great information. I especially wanted to say hi to michigandergirl. I live in West Michigan and ran the River Bank Run for the first time last year. I am badge 50xx and will be in corral I. I've run a few half marathons in addition to the 25K, but my training has not gone well the past couple months so at this point I'm just hoping to finish and not get swept!
Hello and welcome..I am in I as well, my Bib is also 50XX... I am still working on my outfit... It's definitely going to include a floral skirt and probably a big sparkly pink or purple bow with a visor. Feel free to PM me and we can meet up if you would like to Say hi!
For everyone going to DHS after January 4th. That is the day walls go up in the studios for Star Wars and toy story.

Phineas and Ferb and lightning McQueen and Mater's last day to meet and greet is January 3rd. Jofferys also in that area closes on the 3rd.
Thanks for the head's up!

QOTD:
On my 14 miler a few weeks back, DH was following behind on his recumbent bike in a county park that closes at 6. It was 5:45 and its a $250 fee if you are still parked in the lot at closing and I was a mile and a half out. I was focused on a solid 10 mm, head up running strong. I came upon what I thought was branches in the road until I was a step in front of it and realized it was a snake, I somehow was able to hurdle over it last minute. :crazy2: Apparently I didn't look like the awesome stunt performer I felt like, because it left DH laughing obnoxiously. I REALLY hate snakes.

I can only down powergel everything else is too thick for easy consumption to me...

As for most interesting.. Nothing outstanding but the day apparently a dozen +neighbors all replaced their toilets and left the old out for trash day made for a unique `crappy' run...

Passed? You didn't change your workout to incorporate a slower paced easy interval?

We took a moment, but after a short time we kinda felt like perves.

It was probably children on the corn type stuff.

Isnt wildlife amazing.... at a distance.

Another story that happened to a lady that I used to run with. She runs before sunrise and one morning she and her friend went out for their morning run. A car passed them once, and then again a few minutes later. They got a little spooked, then a few minutes later they noticed the car was following behind them. They ran to some ones back yard and armed themselves with a shovel they found laying in the yard and knocked on the door to someone called the police for them. At the time there was some crazy stuff going on in the area, and I think the guy was finally caught. The truth of the matter is we are very vulnerable while out running. She runs with mace now.

So ... I'm going to be the odd man out here ... I hate the Apple Cinnamon Hammer gel. The texture was weird to me, and I didn't find the taste to be anything special. Never tried any of their other gels, but my sister has a few she likes (I think her favorite is Montana Huckleberry).

I like Clif Chocolate and Mocha gels ... although they aren't super easy for me to get down (no gels I've tried ever have been, I always have to stop to take a drink a few times in the middle). I haven't tried too many of their other flavors, but I might eventually.

Gu and PowerGel are not options for me because of my dietary restrictions, so I can't comment on those.

ATTQOTD:
Hmm ... nothing too exciting has happened to me. I had a raccoon sighting that scared the crap out of me a few months ago (if you scroll back a number of pages, you can learn more about that), but otherwise, nothing too exciting. I guess I live in a boring place...
Although - on Wednesday I was running and I saw a guy walking his dog. And by walking his dog, I mean driving (slowly) with the leash out the window while the dog walked alongside the car. I think this was the first time I've ever seen that version of walking the dog.

The other story happened on early in training when running around the LSU lakes as well. A friend and I were putting in some miles when we start to catch up with a girl ahead of us. No big deal, but what caught our attention is this girl was running in one of those running skirts, again not something unusual. What was odd was it was very short and this girl decided to cut out the liner inside and wasn't running with anything under it. So with each stride she took, everyone got a full moon. It was hard not to laugh as we passed.

And that is why I ALWAYS wear pants or capris under my skirt. Running skirts are not always so thick, so if there are no attached shorts, you gotta wear something underneath!

Ugh. I'm going to need all of those official race weekend capris.

There goes all my Christmas monies.

Yeah. I hope those are either so cheap that I don't feel bad buying them or so expensive that I can't afford them. Seriously, so cute!

Now if only Hershey would put out a gel.

I second this motion.

A
All of my magnets are on my fridge.

Yeah, I usually only have my magnets on the car for a few months, then I clean them up and put them on the side of the garage fridge.

My PHM magnet was stolen too... Really people?! .... And other magnets left alone...

The irony is that I had bought two Star Wars Half magnets as a "just in case" but whoever took the PHM magnet left that one alone. :confused3

On one of our long run routes, we go into an area of shops, restaurants, and condos that exists on a little peninsula-type feature into the river. A couple weeks ago, we were re-routed by the police at 5am because an alligator had been spotted roaming around and they were trying to corner and capture it. I see gators all the time, but never in such a built-up urban area. I still am trying to figure out how it climbed up the seawall.

FYI, to @RalphyBoy in my signature you'll find a link that takes you to a pdf of all of the disboard runners running in marathon weekend. Included is a bunch of other information as well.

Alright, here is your final version of the Marathon Weekend Dis'ers. A total of...

50 Marathon Runners
41 Half Marathon Runners
26 10K Runners
29 5K Runners

are listed. My hope is that it helps facilitate meeting other Dis'ers while we're waiting for our races. I know I'm excited to get to meet so many of the nice people I've been conversing with over the last few months, either before the corrals, in the corrals, or cheering you on as you cross the finish line. So excited the last long run is out of the way and now it's time to let the body recover from the training and prepare for the fun part, racing! Less than 3 weeks!
Finally on a real computer where I can open the file, and this is amazing! Thanks for pulling it together. :)

My out of the ordinary moment was before the W&D but that was also training for this I suppose so it could fall under either race training. I wanted to do 12 miles this particular day and when I got back to my street, I was about 11.5. I really wanted to do 12 so I decided not to turn onto my street, but to continue on, go up a side street and head back from there. The whole run I was dodging acorns, leave piles, going up and down curbs, etc... but this side street was perfectly flat and clear. Somehow my ankle rolled and I went down...hard! I ended up spending that Sunday afternoon at the urgent care center. My shoulder was a little messed up as was my face of all things. Only I could hurt my shoulder, cut up my face, and get a black eye while running.

Two weeks ago I was stopped by the sheriff a half mile into a 22 mile run. It was 5am, I'm wearing blinky lights & running attire. He flipped on his lights & pulled his car up on the sidewalk blocking me in between his car & a boundary wall. Spent the next 10 minutes quizzing me on why am I running at this time of morning & then threatened me with a summons because I was not carrying my drivers license. I wear a roadID bracelet that has more info than my license. I was p*ssed & had an angry few miles after that.

For some reason my cell won't open the file but laptop does. Strange part is I can open all other .PDF files.

That's really strange. I didn't know that running without a license was a real offense.
