Marathon Weekend 2016

Something to keep in mind while weather watching: the high temp won't hit until later in the day - generally 1-3pm this time of year. The low is what we'll have at race starts. For this Floridian, a low of 50ish and a high of 70 would be just about as perfect as it gets!!

(FYI the feels like here today is over 90. In late Dec. I can't even...)
Totally agree. Yesterday's humidity was very unusual for late December. BRF and I were just incredulous during our 10-miler. I told her that on the bright side if it's still like this marathon weekend, we've been training in it since April! :scared:

I was gifted a Minnie Mouse sparkle athletic skirt and bows for my sneakers!!! So I'll still be Minnie, just with those as well. Had a great run outside in the rain (well mist really) today. Hubby got me a Garmin forerunner 220 and its purple! Worked great and I loved just looking at my wrist.

I feel ready :)
For the run that is.

The whole making sure everything else on the trip goes smoothly is another thing. But I can live with that.

I gifted myself the new Minnie SparkleSkirt!! It should be here on Monday. Yay!

Guys... I'll miss this thread. A lot.
:charac2:

I say we keep this thread going even after the race. I'm not sure I can keep up my progress without you guys!!

Have you seen the weather forecast lately? I goes from highs in the 80s, to the 70s to all of a sudden low 60s!! All in three consecutive days. At least on my iPhone weather app. :) Gotta love FL weather ...

I got two very different answers from two different websites this morning.
I've given up on checking the weather (until I start checking it again, which will probably be tomorrow).

I got in just under 15 miles today. It even felt pretty decent. I ran with the friend who is doing the race with me. That made it a lot more fun for sure. I usually never run with anyone. After the race I cleaned up and took the kids to see Star Wars. That was awesome!!! Now I can't wait to get to the Launch Bay to see all the stuff I can buy down there. My next scheduled run day is Tuesday and we are finally supposed to be getting so typical MA weather, snow and freezing rain. And then I have Thursday off for my daughter's birthday so I will do another longish run in the morning that day as well. In 12 days I will be landing at MCO and I can't wait either.

It was 18F during my run this morning... but the treadmill was just fine. Began tapering today... looking forward to the mouse house :)

I really admire your mental game if you can do 20 on the treadmill! I would find that impossible. I made it up to 10 last year when I was injured but that was my limit. I managed to get my 12 in today outside and my knee felt good... I think I can start enjoying the anticipation again instead of enduring injury anxiety.

Thanks! I have done it once before when training for my last marathon, but it didn't end up happening this time. We have had an unplanned basement renovation and the construction guys decided to show up. I am hoping my 18-miler a couple weeks ago will be enough to get me through.

How is it possible that I leave a week from Wednesday! Second week of the taper begins now and that means even less miles. I am going to be climbing the walls soon! Question - any recommendations on time to leave POP for the 5k and 10k; crowd wise is it much different than the half and full? Thanks!

At this time two weeks from today I hope to crossing the finish line along with all of you running the marathon.

Not hope, will. You will be crossing the finish line.

I think I need to know a bit more about DATW on January 11th?! :)

DATW traditionally starts at Canada at noon when they open the drink cart. Experience has shown it's easier to get all the way around when you finish with tequila rather than start with it.

Question - any recommendations on time to leave POP for the 5k and 10k; crowd wise is it much different than the half and full? Thanks!

You could probably leave at 345 or 4 all four days and be fine. You'll have some extra sitting around to do for the 5k and 10k because you won't be walking 15-20 minutes out to the start, and the 5k starts a bit later than the other three races. The crowds will be lighter for the 5k and 10k because those races have several thousand less entrants than the half and the full.

Is there still now sign of preview of the merch or our race shirts? It's seems pretty late!!

I hope everyone's final runs are going well, it is SO COLD here in Dublin but we were out braving it this morning.

5 more sleeps for us!!!

Sometimes it's not till just a few days before on merchandise but race shirts won't be previewed at all. Once people start picking up at the expo pictures of the race shirts will start showing up on social media I'm sure.

We have freezing temps and crazy winds and snow in good ol' Nebraska so it hurts to run so I will take any sort of warmth (& humidity) in Florida to run in as running when it's freezing it's so easy to get injured (or aggravate injuries) since it's hard to always be warmed up all over. Plus, it will be nice to run in less layers of clothes and no face mask!!!! 1 week till packing day here!
