Marathon Weekend 2016

Ugh on that weekend forecast posted above! I ran my last long run today in 70+ degree temps with 90% humidity and it was brutal! Can it PLEASE be a little cooler for the real thing? LOL.

Thirteen ugly miles today. Let the taper begin!

I ran 3.5 miles today in 80+ and 1 million % humidity. Felt like 10 miles. Could also be from recovering from a cold and coughing the whole time as well, but it sucked. I agree with you on cooler temps for race day.

so weird about the dooneys....my wife was not to happy with that news, shes been looking forward to this bag since last year when we decided on doing the race weekend. I'm not to upset about the forcast after training all summer in the south with high 90's and plenty of humidity, those temps will feel splendid

I'm probably the least surprised about the Dooneys. I knew something had to be up when they were pulled from the website out of the blue a few weeks back.

Decembers training continues to be a wacky experience. But judging by how well I came out of the 18 miler after missing my last two big long runs (thank you cold and finals (totally worth it, aced the final and got a B in the class onward to Calc III)) I am ready for Dopey.

Hope everyone is having a good holidays!

ETA: On forecast I don't trust anything other then two days out really. Further out gets me a feel but living in a climate that can call for snow one day and none the next I just have learned that forecasts are not the most predictable. Especially two weeks out. Gah I can't believe we are two weeks out.

Temp of 84 with a heat index of 90 for me here in South Florida.

Honestly i would rather have warmer weather for marathon weekend. That cold of low 40's this past January was not fun for me. Going out to run in a couple of hours.

Merry Christmas everyone. I had a touch of FL here the last 2 days. It was 70' yesterday and in the 60's today. It smells like spring outside. No big deal to most but I'm in MA and this is unheard of. So it has me ready to be there. I'm even going to go run today.

I cracked a joke to my coworker the other day that I'll leave Massachusetts and go to Florida and it'll be the same weather in both places. I'm wearing a tshirt, cardigan and leggings today with no coat.. It's so weird to me! Where's my snow?!?!

I saw enough snow last year to last for a while. I hope we get no snow this year. Of course last year we have no snow at this point last year and then February hit and we got hammered. I just want there to be no snow until I get back from FL because I don't want any delays in getting to Disney.

@MeridaAndAngus,
I know I'm pages past your post, but I've been thinking about you and your job situation. I hope that you have been able to work out a way to even do a short weekend, for a couple of reasons.
One- after all that goes in to prepare for this, you deserve to cross the finish line!
Secondly- I remember how empowered I felt when I ran my 13 mile training run. No crowds, no fanfare, just me and sneakers
(well, a few other items too! ;) ) I'm sure that you've felt that feeling of conquering something, of feeling powerful and accomplished... We all talk about it here.
I really really hope for you that you have the chance to run your first marathon, because I believe you will finish and feel amazing, accomplished, powerful.... And somehow, I believe, that feeling ripples into the world around us, we present ourselves differently, and things around us shift to accommodate how we present ourselves,
So in the end, your marathon may very well help you to change the direction or tone of your career.

As you can see, my time off has made me very philosophical! Lol!
But, I have been thinking of you and your situation, I am sending prayers and the very best of wishes!
.... And that goes for all of you! :cheer2:

Thank you, @margitmouse, for such kind and uplifting words! I've made some small progress on the job front - nothing confirmed yet but indications that things are moving in the right direction. I'm still praying a lot about it and keeping all options open, and it is great to know that there are amazing people out there praying for me as well.

I've also adjusted our travel plans to make the trip work - I'm so excited about it! I confided in a close relative that I was worried about covering the costs of the trip but really wanted to make it work, and she gave me a Disney gift card today for Christmas to help cover some costs. It really made my day that she was so thoughtful.

Also, you are totally right about the small personal victories in the training process. When I finished my last 20 mile training session, I felt exhausted and so happy that I had pushed myself and made it through. I know the marathon will be extremely difficult, but I am so excited to accomplish it, and I think that it will help provide me some clarity in what I want to do next in my professional lift. Thank you again for your supportive post!

How very thoughtful of your relative! Those are the presents that really touch us, right?! The ones that are given to who we are!
I'm so happy that you have worked it out to go!
I have been reading George Sheehan and Amby Burfoot this week, both of whom talk about the thought process while running, and how it can be creative, reflective, a time to ponder ones life and obstacles, challenges. They also both talk about how they have had great ideas, inspirations, and projects develop during their running......
Can't wait to hear what ideas you develop over 26.2!!
Be sure to let us know :)

Are you running Goofy, or "singly" ;) the Marathon?
