Marathon Weekend 2016

We called got the discount applied except they switched us to the yacht club from the beach club. The best part is we are now club level guests! We saved money going to club level from the beach club! I have never stayed at deluxe let alone club level. I can tell this is going to be a great trip already.

I think the weather may be turning in Florida,I did 9.5 miles tonight and I was nowhere near as soaked in sweat as I was on a similar outside long run about 2 weeks ago.I don't know if it was lower humidity or the temps were lower but I definitely was not as miserable

I ran every morning while in WDW earlier this month as I have our last few trips this time of year. I have also run in those conditions while on business trips in New Orleans and Houston. I just don't know how people who live in that environment ever come to love running. Maybe it gets easier over time, but to start out training in those conditions? :scared:

Wow that's great. Sounds like you are going to have a great trip. Staying club level should be a huge perk.

It always makes me chuckle when I realize I've chosen a hobby where "not as miserable" is the bar that I'm shooting for.

I find that running in the summer, it rarely gets any easier. My average pace is slowed, and any attempt at a PR is just a foolish idea. That's probably the reason why we don't have any races for the most part from June to mid September. When the weather starts to change, hitting goal paces and effort required for longer runs come a lot easier! Its not cool yet, but the air seems a little drier and the highs are staying in the 88-91 range. Bring on the polar vortex!

I'm running the half on Sunday and I just looked at the weather... 69 and partly cloudy. Thank goodness fall weather has started to settle in up here. Looking at the route there will be lots of great ocean and woods views.

Now do I run with music of test out a race running with a book on tape or podcast. Problems runners have.

Haha, I think its because we have short memories. We curse the heat and humidity in the summer and just when we are ready to load up and move to a cooler climate the heat breaks and suddenly running becomes much easier!

I love when the temperature drops and I find my pace magically improving. Usually I wind up dropping 30 sec to a minute per mile. This summer I did most of my speedwork and tempo runs on the treadmill so I probably won't get to see the same sudden improvement.

I think that short term memory thing ties to why we sign up for other races too. I had dinner with a bunch of friends from church last night. Most of us are runners one of whom is doing his 1st marathon during goofy. He's done a handful of half's though. He's adamant that this will be a 1 and done for him. I've already told him I'd be willing to bet he'll be signing up for more.

I agree - unless you are an elite runner, marathons hurt. Every time I run one I swear that it will be my last. I have lost count of the number of times that I have told myself that.

Since May I don't think I've run outside more than 10-12 times, every other run has been on the treadmill in the gym. We're getting to my favorite time of the year when race season starts, the weather cools off,I can do more theme parks trips, the holidays etc...During the summer you just try and stay somewhat fit and think of the good months coming as you're running. But don't get me wrong I was still plenty soaked in sweat last night,I just didn't look like I had literally walked out of a pool.

Don't you just love when you have so much sweat that your socks are soaked like you jumped into a pool and the squish sound they make for the last few miles in your shoes... ahhh, good times!

Hmm that's interesting that you saved money going to club level...I called to get the discount applied to our Beach Club reservation and the quotes I got for club level rooms at both BC & YC were much higher that what we are paying without the discount in a standard room.

We are doing stay play and dine discount. the majority of the savings is in the dining.

I lose about 4-5 lb of water when I run only 1 hour...I've weighed myself countless of times on a scale with 0.2 accuracy and it is that much. I am literally soaked after EVERY run...not fun looking like a wet rag.

Not to mention the smell! Anyone who's run in Mizuno's know they aren't the best with that although they've gotten better over the years.

Do you know what percentage your savings were with the SPD discount? Originally, I was hoping the RO would be 25% at all Deluxe resorts, but that's not the case so I'm considering other options. Assuming the SPD discount somewhat makes up for reduced RO discount I might stick with what i have.

I think it's around 40% on the dining. There are some people who have looked into it on the resort discounts board.

Our climate is very similar to Houston, just a little hotter since we're 340 miles south of it. It does get a little less difficult over time (note I didn't use that word "easier") and DH, the "training person" is out before 6:30 am and brings water with him.

My upper body sweats like Ted Stryker landing a plane but for whatever reason the lower you go on my body the less I sweat,my feet sweat but nothing like my upper body.I'll asume this is why I never get stinky feet from running or walking,if it rains and my feet get soaked from it yes,but never just from sweat.
