Marathon Weekend 2016

maybe for the rest of you, not for me...suffered in a 10k run - I'm pissed at myself.

I'll join you in the disappointed and painful brigade this weekend. Ran a 1/2 in Charlotte in the drizzle this morning. Pulled my hamstring just before mile 2. Was able to manage it OK til mile 8 when it worsened significantly. Ended up running 11 miles after the pull and finishing in 2:15.

Glad I was able to PR for PoT last weekend. Rehab is going to put a crimp in training for January, though!

That's an awesome time!

Thanks!!! Our goal was to beat 2hrs25 as that's what my Dad and Sister got in the Rock 'n' Roll half in Dublin and as my sister didn't run yesterday that's her POT.

Awesome job. 40 min PR is HUGE. Is that all because of running or did you stop for pics and stuff during W&D last year? If that is a pure running PR then please share the secret on how you made such a huge improvement.

Ye so Wine and Dine last November was my first ever half marathon. As most people know it RAINED a LOT which actually didn't affect our pace as we're used to Irish weather anyway. It did however affect the amount of entertainment along the course. We only stopped for two character photos and barely had a wait and we got a few other quick snaps along the route. We were under trained for the run, we didn't have a solid training plan so the half was tough although we still enjoyed it.

We've been training all year but pretty solidly since April on our Marathon training plan for next month so that's our only secret. Following a training plan and running more. Who would've guessed?!

Congrats. Any PR is a good PR. So you think strength training is the reason for your improvement?

I believe it's helped greatly, yes. I had never really lifted before and I started last year just after the Avengers half marathon. Since then I've seen every one of my PRs for running drop. My actual training runs have not changed at all and my weight has gone up but I've gotten faster.

Have a question. Today was my half marathon proof of time race. Happy to say that although I missed my goal time by 25 seconds, I still PR'd by over 6 minutes! I am happy about that! I went to the rundisney site to enter my proof of time and am a bit concerned. It asks you to enter the url, but today's race site only offers a results tab that you click on to enter a database, then you enter name or bib, etc. to get results. In the database the url doesn't change no matter which race you are looking at or who you look up. Have any of you experienced this and how did you account for the url on the proof of time site? I just entered the race website address and the tabs to hit to get to the results. Makes me nervous as I have been working at this PR since spring and would really like to have it count.

The whole "we do not even verify until 10/6 and will put you in corrall P if time can't be verified" makes me anxious. I sent an e-mail to the address listed on the RunDisney site but thought I would ask here as well since so many of you are veterans of these races and the registration system.

On a positive note, after today I have knocked off 31 minutes from my half marathon time since January and now have a PR of 1:50:25. It was a good day!

Congrats on the PR and taking 30 minutes off your half time in 9 months!

I lose about 4-5 lb of water when I run only 1 hour...I've weighed myself countless of times on a scale with 0.2 accuracy and it is that much. I am literally soaked after EVERY run...not fun looking like a wet rag.
Wow! what do you drink when you are running to stay hydrated. With loosing that much water do you find yourself cramping?

My upper body sweats like Ted Stryker landing a plane but for whatever reason the lower you go on my body the less I sweat,my feet sweat but nothing like my upper body.I'll asume this is why I never get stinky feet from running or walking,if it rains and my feet get soaked from it yes,but never just from sweat.
Yeah I have the same graduated sweating. My shirt will look like I've jumped in a pool. My legs and feet may be a little wet but it's more from sweat running down them rather from them sweating.

Just finished my POT half marathon at 2hrs 19 which is a PR by about 40mino from wine and Dine last year. Whoop!!

Congrats to others with their PRs too!
Congrats to you. Improving your pace by 3 minutes per mile is huge.

maybe for the rest of you, not for me...suffered in a 10k run - I'm pissed at myself.
I didn't PR this weekend. I had 10 mile runs on Saturday and Sunday.

@IamTrike, I usually drink about 22oz of water during a 1 hour run. And for 2 hours (Half and training) I drink an additional 20oz of gatorade. I have not had any cramping problems. On a treadmill my sweating is so bad that I have to put a towel behind it so I don't create a visible puddle - quite embarrassing.

As for not PRing and being pissed....this is what I posted about my Sunday run on another thread:

Ughhh, had a crappy 10k race today. Totally was struggling through it and only could manage a 51 minute time. What's frustrating is that last weekend I had a bridge run 10k where you go up a bridge (both ways, in the humid snow in Houston) 4 times (4.3% grade) and I struggled through that with a cold and did it in 52 minutes. So pissed at myself today because I wanted to improve my 48 min POT, oh well. I'm wondering if my 11 mile training run on Friday took too much out of me - my heart rate today was averaging 162 for the 10k and it usually is around 144 for these runs. Sigh.

My biggest frustration was that I barely beat my bridge run by 1 minute while on a flat course....i should have easily beat that by 4 minutes and hence would have had a PR. I don't know what happened - I just couldn't push at all.

Any guess why a standard room at WL would not be eligible for a discount? We also have tickets and meal plan in our package during our stay?

I've started semi-planning for 2016 as well. We are thinking of a big group of us going for the first time. That would be...interesting, but fun. The hardest part is trying to get the newbies to plan so early my friends are just not planners!! Good thing they have me! LOL.

I am really a 10k'er, but thinking about making this my first 1/2 and making 2016 a coast-to-coast year. EEK. We shall see. I am thinking I would Stillwater todo the 10k, but I'm not sure about the back to back thing. Hmm.

If you use the Jeff Galloway training method that is up for one of the challenges you should be good. I followed that for goofy and dumbo and was able to finish both with little to no pain. I have been running since September last year.

I submitted my POT last week. At what point do we know which corral we're placed in?

I don't think I have ever known my corral until looking at my bibs at the Expo. You can get a good estimate by looking at the charts from past years but I'm not sure they post corrals beforehand.

Every day we are a different runner. That is why we can't get too excited about a great run, or too deflated about a poor run. You did the work, and should be proud. Don't let this impact your enthusiasm.

You officially find out when they post the waivers about 2-3 weeks before the race. Unofficially, someone always finds a hidden link to the information a week or so before that.

Some resorts and certain room types aren't part of the discounts or only so many of that type of room. So, either it was not part of it to begin with or the number available with discount are already booked. Sometimes you have to go to preferred or a view to get the discount.

Forgot that the waiver contained that info. I knew I was going to be in the same corral as the previous year so I didn't pay much attention to it last time.
