Marathon Weekend 2016

Good morning folks! Great responses from everyone on my little series of questions yesterday. Since it seemed to go so well, lets play the game again.

Question of the Day (QOTD)
So here it is, you just crossed the finish line of your last race and received your medal. You are on top of the world and already thinking about the next one! What are 3 things you are going to do / looking forward to doing post race?

ATTQOTD:
1. Huge my wife and daughter.
2. Drink a Bear Republic - Racer 5 IPA at our resort or nearest location. (Love that beer and we no longer get it in Louisiana. Its been many years since I've had one.)
3. Spending some time in the parks with my family with my new hardware.

1. Meeting my mom who will be watching from the stands
2. Race Retreat with my husband
3. Relaxing at the resort

I see there are some parents of small people on this board so I have a question about flying with a toddler. My 3 year old is 40" as of her last checkup in October...so very likely could be over 40" now. She's very tall for her age. She also has her own seat and will be by the window or between my husband and I (we have a whole row booked.) We are not bringing a car seat on the plane because we are not driving once we arrive (and United does not allow booster type seats anyways.) The harnesses you can buy are all really expensive $70, and they max out at 40". She would likely be uncomfortable in them. Wondering who has flown with a 3-4 year old and what they do about restraint. Are they ok just in the normal lap belt everyone wears?

I have the option of buying a CARES belt on Amazon prime and getting it delivered in time, but like I said...they max out at 40" tall.

We have never flown with car seats and used to do the lap child option when my kids were younger. I know, I know a lot of people have told me that I'm being unsafe but I didn't realize people even thought that until I had already been doing it for awhile ... soooo yeah. As far as restraints for larger children in their own seat we have always just done the lap belt. I looked at additional restraints but for the price and thinking about the fact that my son would most likely not be keeping it on due to comfort we opted out. He has done fine with just the lap belt and stern instructions to stay fully on his butt and hang on to the arm rests. Hope that helps!!

I think her weight is more important than height. The FAA guidelines say if the child is over 40 pounds, regular seat belt is fine.

Lugging one of those car seats around an airport is a major pain! Good call not bringing one.

You're not cleared to run after major surgery. Has your doctor cleared you to power walk 48.6 miles over 4 days (plus whatever walking you will be doing at the theme parks)? How has your training been? I wish you the best experience possible and a great trip. Please make sure you do not injure yourself or cause complications over the Dopey, particularly since it is a solo trip for you and you don't have a support crew who can help you if you have problems after the races.
Thank you for your concern. My doctor knows my plans and he cleared me to start walking at 3 weeks. Prior to surgery, I was running 40-45 miles a week. I walked a half marathon last weekend (and told my doctor about it). As long as I watch my heart rate, I'm fine.

QOTD:

1) Find my wife over the fence... get a photo.
2) Maybe get some pix with characters.
3) Shower, refuel, rebound, and head to Toy Story Mania -- fastpasses and all ;)

1. Celebrate with adult beverage for completing Dopey (last WDW full marathon was my Goofy in 2008...) in Epcot before heading via monorail to Poly to shower/change
2. Fairytale Dining Dinner at Cinderella's Royal Table Sunday night and fireworks
3. Head to Dream for Castaway Cay Challenge Wednesday and race to Anaheim Friday for Rebel Challenge at Disneyland (10K Saturday and 1/2 on Sunday) - getting Coast-to-Coast (12 medal bling)!

Nice to see someone else doing the CC challenge. There does not seem to be many of us on here.

Definitely glad to see you're doing the CCC too! I've only found a few doing the Marathon weekend that are on our cruise - I'm sure we'll find more. We decided last minute to do Fish Extenders group for first time and several are doing the Marathon weekend in our FE group. Have you done any Disney cruises before? This will be first time on one of the larger ships - Dream. Will be our 6th DCL cruise - Western Caribbean 2002 (Magic - 1 week), Panama Crossing 2005 (Magic - 2 weeks), Transatlantic 2007 (Magic - 2 weeks), Eastern Caribbean 2010 (Magic - 1 week), Alaska (Wonder - 1 week) - excited to explore the ship, restaurants and all the recent adds (like Millennium Falcon) in the latest refurb last October.

1. Cry
2. Kiss my husband and give sweaty hugs to all of my friends and family who are making the trip out to support me.
3. Drink all the beers. All of them.

Thanks for the answers! She was 36 lbs in October so maybe I need to plop her on my at home scale just to see where she is at right now. I just won't tell her why I am doing that, or what a scale even is.
She's the height of many 5 year olds and slim built, so all the guidelines are kind of odd for her. The United airlines recommended harness for instance goes up to 44 lbs but is only if you are 40" or shorter.
We will probably go just lap belt.

I will definitely take the Accuweather low on 1/10 over weather channel! 12 degrees is a huge difference.

The marathon morning temp will be the low of the previous day. Was 50 a couple days ago, now up to 54, so getting closer the weather.com

Cool! This is our 17th Disney Cruise. We were just on the Dream this summer so I'm hoping to see some of our favorite CMs from then (club host Jameszy and bartenders Benita and Adam). And I'm so excited Satellite Falls is now on this ship. Hoping its warm enough for it. :) If you spot a couple in their 40s wearing medals, and probably limping, with 2 teenage sons (if they want to be with us), say hi! :)

Beyond that, my next race is a half on April 3rd. I am looking forward to integrating some swimming back into my work-outs now that running time won't be completely monopolizing my free time. :)

Yes, this too, also looking to biking and swimming after getting past this marathon training.

I am still getting 50 from accuweather and 62 from the weather channel for marathon morning low... I would take 54 over 62. What town/city are you using in your search?

Ok, that's confusing. I always thought the low of the day was set in the morning around sunrise. Regardless, thanks for clarifying and that sounds better......for today anyway. :)

QOTD:
To be honest, I haven't thought too much about it. I have a really good/bad talent at compartmentalizing, so in my head, the marathon still seems eons away, even though I know it isn't. I think once I start packing this weekend, it'll come crashing down to reality. So, here's what I'm thinking now:
1. Wander around - I tend to need to walk a lot after my HM races - and hopefully find chocolate milk and DH (yes, in that order) and then take pics.
2. Back to POFQ for a shower and then head to Epcot - I'm starting my DATW early :-)
3. ADR at Sanaa - scoring all the naan bread for myself - DH can get his own - and then hopefully a spot at Trader Sam's.
