Marathon Weekend 2016

Just something to pass the time. I know it's not worth the paper is written on, but I enjoy watching things develop. The cold front headed your way is going to make its way through Baton Rouge, LA this evening. Currently 71 and 91% RH. Saturday morning will be 34!
NICE!!! And I hear ya - I'm not looking that far out yet, but you bet I'll be stalking every weather app I have a week out from race weekend... despite the fact that, in the end, I'll just bring EVERYTHING anyway lol! ;)

I'm ready to see merch.

I'm starting to really question my ability to finish this in a few weeks time. I've taken about 10 days off, it band, and went for a gentle 3k run yesterday and felt so unfit. Today I'm pretty achey and feel like all my training since March has gone to waste. I know this is pretty irrational but I'm genuinely a bit worried to try a 5k tomorrow just in case 1. My knee hurts 2. It was a bad as the 3k. All my excitedness has completely gone and it makes me sad!

Merchandise/t shirt reveal would probs take the edge off!

Weather forecasting 3ish weeks out... :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: I'm about 90 miles west of WDW: my "low" the other night was 74. My forecast low Fri (2 days from now)? 48. Welcome to Florida ;) (BTW it's a balmy 85 at the moment.)

I am 150 to the south. Isn't this lovely warm weather great.

It was 36 degrees this morning. In CALIFORNIA. Where am I??? Although the temps look good to me in FL, I would really, really, reallllllly appreciate it if someone could tell the humidity to drop. A lot. By like at least half. M'kay, thanks. :)

Me too! We've had this since Aprilish and I for one am tired of it. We will have a cool snap this weekend, but I'm hoping for at least another for marathon weekend!

Cool snap for marathon weekend would be great but don't wish for too much like I did last year cause it was downright frigid Friday and Saturday mornings,I wasn't there Thursday but people were calling the 5K the Frozen 5K as it was the coldest morning.I remember before the half hanging out for like 30 minutes in the merchandise tent to stay out of the cold.Sunday morning was the warmest one but still cold enough,Sunday afternoon was the first time all weekend it felt somewhat warm. The 2014 race was near perfect temperatures, that would be nice.

The 5k was cold, but nothing like Disney on Ice in 2010. That was some the coldest and nastiest weather Orlando has ever had. The sleet and freezing rain during the half made things miserable, especially at the finish. Once you stopped, the wet and cold just soaked into you and made your teeth chatter. I much prefer conditions like we had for the half in 2015. Mid-40s are perfect for shorts, short sleeves, and a hat to regulate body temperature along the way.

OMG. Because of all this weather talk, I threw every piece of running gear I own in my suitcase.

I have no room for real clothes. I'm telling myself I'll just buy them in Orlando since we leave this weekend.

Yay?

I've heard plenty of stories about that weekend, snow during the Disney half marathon, that would have been interesting!!This was before I started doing these races so I wasn't there, good thing as being from South Florida I love getting some cool to cold"ish" weather as the constant heat gets annoying, but I've realized once it gets too cold I turn into a wimp.I remember visiting Lake Tahoe with 23 degrees and I wanted to get something to eat from a supermarket about 4 blocks away, once I got about a block into my walk over I turned back and decided to get something at the hotel.I think I did visit Disney the weekend before the marathon in 2010 and I think it was still like 30 degrees, the cold was nonstop the winters of 2010 and 2011.If it's cold again for marathon weekend I gotta go and buy me some calf sleeves, mostly to help keep my lower body warm.

Yep! That's why I'm wishing for a cool snap and not a cold one. ;)

I didn't mind the temp during the 5K this year.....once you got running. Standing around was just brutal, but once the first mile was done, it was pleasant. I don't remember weather for the 10K, but the full was nice weather.

If weather could be clear and temps in the 45-55 range, I'd be happy!

I felt the same after I had to take off and cut down a lot over the last month from piriformis syndrome (glute muscle) and switched to short run/walks and then the last 2 days cut out some walk breaks and yes at first it felt like I was the Tinman but after getting more runs in I have felt better. I am not injury free unfortunately so have to be careful like you to not make it worse, but I bet after you get a few more runs in you'll feel better about your runs, your muscles will remember, just hang in there! Almost there! Merchandise would be nice to see!

This NE Ohio girl found the 5K weather to be downright pleasant this year. :teeth: Of course, I did bring some extra layers, soooo...

Eh, Disney will be giving you 6 shirts anyway. You're good.

I just keep saying at least it shouldn't be crazy windy! Yesterday was 40 mph wind gusts in 25ish degrees, luckily I was only doing 2.5 miles, but it was rough! I can take cold but throw in the wind and it's brutal! I'll take heat over that any day. I do plan on packing everything for all kinds of weather as well and wearing those 6 shirts we get for park touring! I have a nice stack of throwaway items built up this year ready to bring! Don't forget if you use a mylar blanket to keep warm before hand get rid of it before you cross the start as it can block your chip from being read.

I don't ave any magical advice, but if it helps, I understand that feeling of waiting and wondering when the pain will reappear. Due to some physical things that simply can't be "fixed", ITBS will always be a nagging issue for me. I can go months without it doing more than making a little pain-free tightness, then BAM - pain out of nowhere. It tempers my excitement pretty often, the not knowing. What keeps me positive and moving forward is reminding myself that I've run many more miles without ITBS nailing me than I have limped through with that pain. Telling myself "today has every opportunity to be a pain-free day!" seems to help :)

I'm soooo over it, lol! What happened to highs in the 70s and lows in the 60s? THAT's what we suffer through summers for, right?!!

::yes:: I retell this story all the time, because that weekend seriously scarred me for life, lol! I wasn't running, but I was at WDW that 2010 marathon weekend and happened to be up and out early the morning of the half... I'll never forget getting into my car at the resort and trying to make sense of the little blobby, crystal-y things pelting down on my windshield... and the 20+ year northerner in me finally pulling it out of memory, "OMG, it's SNOWING!!!!!" Then getting to the TTC and seeing some half finishers on the monorail; they literally looked blue-toned, they were so devoid of color, and shivering harder than I thought was humanly possible. I couldn't even imagine being in their shoes. Since then, I've amassed a huge collection of potential throwaway race clothes, plus a lifetime supply of mylar blankets, just in case, lol!
