Marathon 2009

Christa: I am happy to say "just" at half. A year ago in October, I puffed my way through my first 5K at a blazing speed of 33:33. This year, I casually jogged with my NR friend through the 6.5K at ToT and kicked myself in the butt for not signing up for the 13K (although he would have probably died and needed Bill's EMT's)!!!! :scared:

It wasn't reassuring listening to them making bets as to how far I would make it before they would have to jump in with oxygen and paddles. I did test their bike riding skills though, as a couple of them had to stop and put their feet down to regain their balance based on my blazing speed they were trying to keep pace with.;)

**Christa** and anyone else reading, please know that the above portion did not actually happen. Although I was having back problems, the only thing I heard from WISHers, other runners/walkers and volunteers was support. I was very encouraged by everyone at the race, making it a great first event.

Bill- well, ok, the bike guys didn't heckle you. But it's a funny story...

I ran a 5k in January with a cop car next to me the entire last mile. The cop turned on his siren and yelled at me through the window. OK, really he was cracking up when he turned on his siren for a couple of seconds and he was very encouraging telling me not to worry and that he couldn't run it at all yada yada. I still like to tell people he was next to me with the siren blaring! That's the beauty of being DLF- the girl in front of me wasn't that far ahead, but she wasn't having nearly the fun I was!

Jen in GA

As for future events, I'm signed up for the Jacksonville Half in December. My goal is to run it reasonably fast just so I have some idea of my pace. Then I'll always know I could have run the Goofy at a decent pace, but I chose to take pictures and play instead. ;) I don't know about Goofy 09- maybe Donald 09 is more my speed...

Plans so far...
Gobble Jog 10K on Thanksgiving Day
ING Georgia Half Marathon in March
Peachtree Road Race 10K in July
WDW Half in 2009

Every once in awhile if the thread is not posted on, just bump it like I did and people will post again. Sometimes we all need a quick thump to the forehead ;) since we get so wrapped up in training, kiddos, life in general and, heck, don't forget the upcoming holidays!! :woohoo:

I had written down the date that registration starts but now I cannot find it. I am pretty sure Robert posted it on the 2008 thread so you can check there. If I find it again, I will post it. I do recall somewhere reading that the Goofy will fill up by the end of January so if you are considering that, think quick!!! :hourglass

Registration opens on Monday Jan 14, 2008 for the 2009 races. If they don't iincrease the Goofy limit(which I talked to the RD about and said they were considering it), better sign up by the end of Jan. I would expect to see a 50% ticker on the Disney site the week after opening.

My plans are definately for the Minnie 5k and 15k in May and definately the TOT 13k again (this year TOT 13k was my first "long" distance race and it was alot of FUN!!!) I am sure there will be other races throughout the year and maybe even a 1/2 marathon before 2009. We will have to see though!! I am most likely planning on doing the WDW 1/2 next year as I don't think I am ready to go GOOFY!!!

COOL everyone!
I posted about my tempo run on the other thread...but I did 12 miles this morning with a time of 1:42.:goodvibes

My plans for racing....Marathon Dec 8th
Maybe:
MAP Sprint Tri in March
White Lake 1/2 Iron Man in May...if DH is willing to fork out the $$$$$.:rolleyes1

Gator - My Marathon in Sept of 2009 will be a local one here in St. Louis, then onto Disney in Jan. for (probably) the Half ....

Thanks for bumping Princess ....

I have been having a little Achilles Tendon problem over the last week or so, yuck ....

Today, I made me ressie at AS Sports for Minnie weekend, found a friend for ToT in October and have devised a plan for working ToT into the marathon training for going Goofy in 09. I am upgrading...I think... Heck, I still have a couple months to consider it!!!!!!!!!

I'm so glad I found this thread! I've run the marathon in '03 (pre-kids), '06 and '07. Those back-to-back years were rough. I found training for the '07 marathon difficult mentally. So I decided to take '08 off. I started looking at all the threads for '08 and was getting a little misty-eyed at missing this next race. But this thread has me excited now for '09! Thank you and I look forward to more discussions on the '09 race weekend! :thumbsup2

emlutz23 - WELCOME - we will all have a great time encouraging each other ...

Princessrunner - yes you have plenty of time to decide :thumbsup2

I ran 3 miles tonight in 22:50 --- cutting back on the miles a little until I get over this Achilles problem, feeling a little better though:cool1:

How is everyone else doing ???

emlutz23 - WELCOME! I ran 04 - 07...including the 1st Goofy..so I also took off for 08. I also feel a little :sad1: about that....that is why this is helping me get excited about doing 09...Maybe.:rolleyes1

cguill - :wizard: :wizard: for your Achilles problem. DUDE! You are super speedy! What is your normal pace?

Princessrunner - I am with cguill....you have plenty of time to decide...well at least until after the 08 marathon.

My training - Ran 5.6 miles today with my running buddy Zoe. She is my JRT dog and is a wonderful running partner.....most of the time.;) We did this in 47.06...but this includes her stops to sniff during the last mile!:headache:

I have talked to a couple of people who have gone Goofy and they said that they ran the half and then walked the full which is very doable for me (assuming I can restrain myself from running!!!) :rotfl2: I am going to be a solo traveler so why not do the whole weekend??!! I was only doing the 15K for Minnie weekend but now I think I will do the 5K also for the same reasons. Christa and cguill, you are sooooo fast, you inspire me. And Christa, we have XC ski trails on my property and I used to ride on them until I found the hole my dogs had been digging............

Gator - my normal everyday running pace is usually btwn. 7:20 - 7:45 per mile pace depending on the day. I did not start that fast when I started running in 1999 it was mainly to lose weight, which I did. I went from 200 pounds down to 155-160. My speed just increased over time with consistent running and training and lots of hard work, I enjoy it though, and unfortunately, I am competitive which is not always a good thing.:goodvibes

My Half Marathon PR is 1:19:39 and my Marathon PR is 2:55, which I hope to break in the next year or two.

I took awhile off and have just been really getting back into running over the last year or so ....

Lets all have fun training for our races and I will be happy to help in anyway that I can ...

Happy Thanksgiving all, I will be doing some of this ...:happytv:

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:
WOW! And I thought my 1:54 1/2 Marathon was fast!

I too started running to lose weight. But it is now therapy for me:cloud9: . I went from 150 lbs(at my 1st marathon) to 110 lbs (my current weight). I run around 8:40 - 8:20 in a normal run...my 5k PR I ran with a 7:40 pace....but don't think I could have kept it up any longer.

My goal for Thunder Road Marathon (12/8/07) is sub 4. I am a little anxious about this. I have to take 12+ mins off my 4:12 WDW 07 marathon.:headache:

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

I will be running the 1/2 in 2009 and I'm glad to see there are lots of others planning on doing the same. It will be my first 1/2 and I plan to start training in a couple of weeks. Does anyone have any sites or books they can recommend for a beginner - I'm looking for training schedules, nutrition, etc. I have a treadmill I plan to use at home until it warms up in a couple of months. I was told that I should be training outside but the snow is starting up and I know if I start running outside, I'll slip and break something :)

:welcome:
Starting this early will really give you a great base! I would just start out to train to train. He He, that was funny. The dreadmill will be fine to start. I think it is harder than running outside...b/c it is boring.
I have heard that Marathoning for Mortals (I think this is the name) is a good book for beginners. It is good to start on a walk/run...do not feel you have to run the whole time.

GOOD LUCK! Everyone here is great to give help so post often.

Hi bunnyfoo --- welcome !!! I have a few ideas for you. Go to www.halhigdon.com -- Hal has many different training programs and has trained a ton of new people thru their first Marathon. He has free training plans as well as programs you can purchase. Most of his plans will be for 18-26 weeks, something like that. Until you want to start the program I would try and build up your miles to what the program will have you doing. I don't know where you are from, but local running stores are also great places to hook up with for training and having groups to do long runs with. If I think of more I will let you know, that should be a great place to start ..... :thumbsup2

Also, UltraMickeyMouse has a website www.disneyrunning.com & www.disneyrunning.com forum --- the forums may be a great place to get support as well.

Who got out the door today on this beautiful T-Day ??? Run or Walk or Both ... :thumbsup2
