Marathon 2009

I am alone for the weekend as no one wants to go with me (except my WISH friends of course :grouphug: ) so why not??? Anyone???? :rolleyes1

As a fellow New Englander (Connecticut), I thought I'd add that I am going to WDW for the half alone this year (and with a hundred or so WISH team mates) and contemplating the Goofy for 2009 as well. I will probably be alone for that too. My 4 kids would love to come with me, but DW isn't a big WDW fan and the kids have school and their activities are in full swing at that time of year. Even though I still can't make it to the bottom of my driveway (which is only about 50 feet long) without getting swept, I am determined and like setting goals (some more attainable than others).

Bill: I would LOVE to have some company in the full. I will walk along with you and cheer you on so you don't get swept....promise!!! :cheer2:

I am hoping with time that things change, but keep in mind that whenever I walk (i.e., training), I am usually in the BMZ.*

You know, alone probably isn't that bad... at the Minnie I hung out with WISHers at the beginning of the race, but felt like I needed to rush back to the family when I finished. I would love to stay and cheer on WISHers at the end and take the group photos and just revel in the moment.

While I love having my family with me, it might be liberating to not have to do that balancing act. Wait- substitute "would be liberating" for "might." ;) Hey- maybe those of us bringing the whole crew can loan out a kid or two. My little one is a huge fan of the Dumbo ride, while the big one is into the big mountain rides- see something for everyone! :rotfl:

Jen in GA

Jen: I agree with the alone theory. I had DFs and DH at ToT and that did not work so well for me. I enjoyed the race but missed ALL the WISH stuff so I was bumming inside :sad2: and being a good friend outside.

Bill: I live in the darkest woods of Maine and I lived on a military base in Georgia (my first real world experience at 18:scared1: ) so...you can't scare me no matter how bad the BMZ is. As my DH says, I have 1 feeling left and, honey, I bet you can't touch it either!!! :lmao: I will be running the half and walking the full is probably a better goal for me so.........:rolleyes1

Does anyone know how it works if you sign up for the half but then decide you want to do the full or go Goofy can you "upgrade"?? I am almost positive I will do the 1/2 in 2009 but hearing talk of getting a Mickey medal sounds great. I am not sure what my level will be in another year but as of right now I know I could do the 1/2 in 2009 (since the 8 miles at TOT didn't seem too bad - whats another few miles!!:rotfl2:) but I may be up to the level of the full or :scared1: the Goofy!!:scared1:

I am toying with the idea also. I know I will run the Donald but I could definitely walk/run the full and still finish in decent time. I am unsure about the "upgrade" option but from the sounds of the other threads, it seems that the Goofy fills quickly so we should probably get an answer to this before making a full decision!!!

Hi everyone! I've been lurking for a few weeks, so I decided to come out of hiding. :) I'm new to all of this, but my goal is to do the Half in '09. I've only recently started, but I'm walking about 2-3 miles a day, 3 or 4 days a week right now. (With a little running thrown in here and there.) It will be slow going, but I'm very excited about getting into better shape and the thought of running through my favorite place on earth!

PrincessRunner --- I didn't realize this thread was starting to take off, lets keep it going y'all. I know 2009 is a long ways off, but its never to early to set our sites ....

Welcome everybody... I was planning on the Full - but I may settle for the half, we will see. I think registration starts the day after the 2008 race, correct ???

Beckyb --- keep pushing on .... :-)

Every once in awhile if the thread is not posted on, just bump it like I did and people will post again. Sometimes we all need a quick thump to the forehead ;) since we get so wrapped up in training, kiddos, life in general and, heck, don't forget the upcoming holidays!! :woohoo:

I had written down the date that registration starts but now I cannot find it. I am pretty sure Robert posted it on the 2008 thread so you can check there. If I find it again, I will post it. I do recall somewhere reading that the Goofy will fill up by the end of January so if you are considering that, think quick!!! :hourglass

:goodvibes Hate to tell you this...but we in Charlotte have been using the BMZ for years...:rotfl: I started using it on my 22 miler in 2003! Trying to forget that run.;)

I MAY be doing WDW in 09......Not sure. I think as we get closer to Jan 08, though, it will be good to have this thread. This way, I won't get too depressed about not participating in WDW08.:sad1:

Gator --- very true, very true. I have relatives in Asheville, NC - I see you are in NC ...:thumbsup2

OK, I am a newbie and I was just trying to cite my sources. But seeing how its apparently a universal running term and has been in commerce for several years, I won't give anyone credit when using BMZ in the future.

Glad to "see" you back Christa.

:lmao: :rotfl: :lmao:  :rotfl: ! I see you are "kicking" around the idea of Goofy 09! COOL! Been there, done that.....it isnt too bad. Infact, I have to say it was the easiest 1/2 and full marathon I ever ran...:confused3 I was running like a minute or 2 slower than my training pace b/c I was afraid to push myself. But the last 6 miles of the marathon, I upped the pace. I had a great time! Don't know if I will do it again though...that is WAY to early to get up 2 mornings in a row!

cguill - Oh I LOVE Asheville! So beautiful! Hey Thanks for starting this! So are you planning on doing the full in 09?

I am going into taper mode for my marathon so get ready for the maddness! The marathon is on the 8th of December. I do not do tapers well.

So what is everyone here training for besides WDW? Or is this the place to ask this? I just saw we have alot of people saying they are new to running so I was wondering what you had planned during the year?:goodvibes

Easy for you maybe. Remember, we are starting from different places. The ToT 6.5K was my first "race" ever and I had a bicycle EMT escort following me. It wasn't reassuring listening to them making bets as to how far I would make it before they would have to jump in with oxygen and paddles. I did test their bike riding skills though, as a couple of them had to stop and put their feet down to regain their balance based on my blazing speed they were trying to keep pace with.;)

Gator I am going to do a Marathon in Sept. 2008 & the Half at Disney in 2009 ....

How about everyone else ...

I am planning tentatively on the Minnie in 08, then just some local 5K races during the summer to bide my time, ToT 13K for me this year (I did the 6.5 but we were not timed :headache: ) and then I am torn between just the Donald half or the full Goofy for 2009. Don't have much time to make up my mind!!! :scared1:

Dude! How rude they were...that would have messed with my mind. I am glad you were able to have fun with it though. Goofy was my 3rd or 4th marathon. I loose track.

cguill, what marathon in Sept 08?

princessrunner - Girl! Never say "just" a 1/2.;) Yeah, the Goofy filled quick this year. Good luck. If you sign up for the Goofy, and find it is not what you want to do...you can always choose your event...(marathon or 1/2 marathon)...I know it is a lot of $$$ though.

beckyb29 - WOW! It looks like you are building a good base for when you start to train. Will you walk or run or both...the 1/2?
