Man, I hate being made to look like an idiot!!!

Interesting
You were so lucky that all those violations ofAirport Security Screening rules did not lead to a terrible outcome. So glad you made the flight safely. Did you lecture her on the great danger she caused for other pax by her disregard of TSA's well thought out logical rules?

:cool1: :joker:

Makes me wonder what else the joker on the X-ray missed:joker:. What a joke the whole process is.

You seem to think the TSA is an effective agency. Now you know the truth.

They are CLUELESS. :rotfl2:

But if they had been hungry your food would have been GONE. LOL.
I have always known it was pretty much 'theatre'. I realize that in some instances, it keeps the honest honest, and probably are times when they actually find something worth finding.
My issue, here on this board, is when people get nasty and start getting argumentative and calling people names.

I will say that as I went through the scanner (nasty old backscatter), I was held in place, outside the machine for a short time while the TSA person talked to someone else. Did the same with my step mom. Who knows what their issues was. Maybe they did see the fruit cups and were trying to discern if we were a threat....:rotfl2:

But there are lapses. Last year I had my laptop (aluminum shell) in the middle of my large wheeled backpack and forgot to take it out for TSA at MCO. Only once I was nearly at my gate did I stop in my tracks and realize it! Nobody even mentioned it as it went through the scanner. :)

I also forgot to take my barrettes out of my ponytail before I went through and the female TSA agent had to "check my ponytail" before allowing me to continue.

Ha Ha! My sister has very thick hair. She was wearing it up in a bun when we left Disney a few months ago. TSA pulled her aside and had to poke their fingers around in her bun to make sure she wasn't hiding anything in her hair.

I honestly think sometimes going through security makes no rhyme or reason.
Last vacation I had my dslr backpack in my wheeled carry-on when we left philly didn't take it out and bags went through fine. Then on way back going from vegas same backpack got put in dh's wheeled carry-on as I had all the fragile stuff in mine. And his bag gets pulled and has to be hand searched b/c of my camera backpack. Though I honestly think it was just caz it was his bag b/c every trip we go on in at least one airport either leaving or returning one of his bags has to get checked.
I also think it sometimes depends on the TSA agent some of the ones who have checked DH (since he always get checked) have been down right mean and it's never even been something he did just some sensor going off or that.
And yet on our way back from vegas I had to get wanded as I kept setting the detector off and they ask if I have anything in my pockets and I say no until I start patting my pockets and realize I stuck my keychain bottle opener in my backpocket during the last minute room sweep. And all the TSA agent did was look at it and then start making jokes about the saying on it.

When we went to Europe Security pulled my carry-on bag aside and went thru it like it was about to explode because they questioned that my digital luggage scale was actually some sort of weapon!!:rotfl:

(And FWIW I LOVE those little mandarin oranges!! I buy them for DS's lunches and sometimes I sneak myself one!):goodvibes

When I flew a couple months ago, on my return, I forgot to take my 3-1-1 bag out before security. I just breezed right through.

Same thing here. On a Philadelphia-Dallas round trip in December, I didn't take my bag out on either leg and both times it wasn't even questioned.

she sailed thru on the outgoing leg, but might not be so lucky on the return. hopefully, she will heed your advice.

i've been stopped for fresh fruit in my duffle (oranges, pineapple, etc - from basket given by BW). i don't think i look scary - except on morning flights, of course, but do get stopped if there is anything disallowed in my carryon or self.

i don't know if it is better that she doesn't get stopped on the rtn leg (assuming she has similar items), or if she does, and realizes the rules are for all - proving the daughter-in-law right.

btw, does she realize you are the esteemed transportation moderator?

Heck, I am super careful about following the rules on liquids, laptop etc........so what do I ALWAYS get called out for going thru Charlotte security.......MY FAT ROLLS on my belly, I try to tell them that its just fat but NO, I get patted down EVERY time! Its almost funny to be honest, esp when they realize that all they find is FAT! I wouldn't want their job, that coming from a person that has a gross job at times :lmao: I have to wonder if they find alot of weapons tucked in fat rolls?

My poor step-mother. She flies home to Mass just in time for a blizzard and now has no heat!!! I'm surprised she isn't at the airport now!!! She has called me twice to have me double check on her flight tomorrow...she must think I'm her personal TA!!! I've told her she's fine...will have to call her later and tell her a third time.
I'm actually kind of hoping she gets stopped. I tell her that I really do know what I'm talking about. Her response??? 'Well missy, how come I got through security with the fruit cups? And how come all those other people got through with the stuff they got through with?? I guess you don't know as much as you think you do.' Granted, she said it with a smile, but really???? So yeah, I'm gonna be the bad step daughter and hope she gets pulled aside!!!:rolleyes1

We went to Israel a couple of years ago, and their security was extremely tight. We had been forewarned and expected it.

Just imagine how surprised we were on our flight back to New York when one of our friends reached in his carry on for something and realized he had accidentally brought on board a fairly large bottle filled with water from the Jordan River. Apparently, it wasn't noticed at all.

Truthfully, that really concerned me regarding the true safety of flying. I fly anyway, but I don't think security is anywhere near as good as they try to persuade us.

Is there something to be said for "potential security"? Let's take the 3-1-1 bags for example. Yes, they've let some of us breeze through without pulling the bag. BUT, could a terrorist COUNT on that to try to smuggle something through?

It's the same with all the other "exceptions".

Just a thought.

I think that's probably a valid thought. I guess my concern is that so many of them are willing to die that they're probably willing to gamble on getting caught as well. I guess I just hope for the best when I fly.

However, I completely forgot about the chocolate eclair I had bought in Epcot.

Ah, the old "exploding eclair" trick. Now that you've published this we will have to go through eclair scanners. And don't forget the heart shaped jelly donunts you can buy at Dunkin Donuts right now. Another serious threat.
