Has anyone sailed in a One Bedroom Suite on the Magic? Please tell me about it.

I have "sailed" vicariously from tours on www.castawayclub.com and also here on the dreams unlimited site they have photos and a short panaromic movie type thing of the cat. 1-3. Cat. 3 would be what you are talking about. They look just beautiful, quite pricey and hard to book as they go fast but boy are they beautiful!

They are great. We have sailed in them 3 times and love it. Each time we were in one of the handicapped accessible rooms. These are the 2 on each side of the ship all the way Aft. They have a HUGE verandah and seem to be a bit bigger than the typical Cat. 3 (although I'm not sure). But, the extra space and the 2 full bathrooms was GREAT for a family of 4. It made it worth it to spend time in the room quietly from time to time. Don't forget what an added benefit it is to have concierge service. Each time, they were excellent!

Have a great trip and remember that even the worst cabin on the ship is still one on a DCL cruise. I'd take it!

We had the opportunity to sail in cabin 8532 on the Magic for a four day cruise. It is a category 3, one bedroom suite, located midship on deck 8. The cabin is very spacious and comfortable. There is a living room with convertable double sleep sofa, two easy chairs, wet bar, and table for four. Additionally, there is a bath with shower and a veranda off the living room. The bedroom is spacious with additional veranda and a quite luxurious bathroom including jacuzzi tub, double vanity, and separate stall shower. The cabin includes concierge service allowing for separate checkin line, preboarding and reservation assistance with palo, spa, etc. All in all, DCL has created an outstanding product and a real treat to experience.

Can you request a specific cabin if it is available. I am wondering what would be better - All the way aft or midship. Where do you feel the least movement?

When booking your cruise in a one bedroom suite you will be assigned a specific cabin. We were given a choice of the available cabins. The four midship suites have a little more light and larger veranda. The living room is turned 90 degrees to the bedroom and there are two verandas in the living room and one in the bedroom. The aft handicapped staterooms are also larger than standard. I believe they have a veranda with closed metal railing rather than open railing and plexiglass, owing to the aesthetic design of the ship. We have also sailed in cabin 8080 which is a one bedroom standard configuration on the Wonder located at the aft elevator lobby. As far as motion, we were not able to appreciate any difference.

The Aft handicapped accessible suites do have a metal verandah but didn't seem to make a difference to us. The verandah is VERY big in these cabins(8100, 8102, 8600, 8602). Especially the "02" cabins. We like Aft and hav never had a motion issue.

We've never sailed on the magic before. What is the difference between the metal rails in the aft cabins vs the others. Is there a safety issue with a 3 and 6 year old?

The rails are the same height, as far as I can tell. The difference is that the metal ones are not "see through". The others have plexiglass so that you can see though. As far as safetly, I really don't see an issue as long as you keep an eye (and don't let them stand on a chair or table out there). They would be an effort to get over, although possible, I suppose. We have had a verandah each time with ages ranging from 2 to 10, over the years without a problem. I don't think it would make a difference between metal or plexiglass (although the metal in the far Aft seemed more tapered making it more difficult to climb). But, you know your kids best!

Sorry to change the subject a bit..

but what is the difference is price. between a cat 4 and a cat 3. I know 4 is not a suite.. but on the dcl webpage it only shows prices up to cat 4.

The cat. 4 is a regular room, good size with a queen bed, convertible sofa and a murphy bed from the wall. Basically, sized and laid out like a typical hotel room. They are very nice. A cat. 3 is a totally different room. Obviously it has the one bedroom extra and a second bath along with many of the things described above. And, it comes with Concierge service which is wonderful. No scrambling for reservations, extra treats in your room, etc. They take great care of you. There is quite a price jump between a 4 and a 3 for these benefits (and other not listed). 1 through 3 are not listed on the DCL website due to this, I would guess. They are limited and therefore hard to get.

Hey Disneykids... I noticed that cat 1-3 was not showing up no matter WHAT date I tried... even April 2005. So I guess you just answered why that was. We have to go with Cat 4 anyway- unless we were to book 2 staterooms-so if it's that far in the future- I thought perhaps we'd try cat 2 or 3 (cat 1 just seems like extra room/etc. that we won't need or use LOL).... but how would we book that? I mean is there a trick to it? Have to go through a phone call to DCL or through a travel agent or what?

You cannot book a Cat 1- 3 Online. You have to call Disney Cruise Libe directly for these.

Be prepared, the price jumps quite a bit. Where each category increments as you go up, the difference between a 4 and 3 (and then upwards) is pretty hefty. But, you get concierge service, larger room, concierge reception, treats in your room each night, priority boarding (before the masses), etc. It's great...just pricey.

We did a Cat 3 last year and have another Cat 3 booked next year on the Magic.

The price jump is rather dramatic - almost twice as much!

Another option for those who just need the extra space and bathroom is to book an outside cabin and then an inside cabin directly across the hall. This option usually is cheaper than a single Cat 3.

We are sailing Nov. 6 Western and are in 8032 which is one of the larger cat. 3 rooms. This room has the pull down bed in the l.r. instead of the bedroom. I called 3 different time to change the cabin number. they were very nice about changing it and if what you want is available they should put you in it. Good luck and have fun.

We stayed in 8032 on the Wonder and loved it. The central location worked out great. Although you are close to the main stairs and elevators, noise from the hall was not a problem.

The only noise issue was from outside the teen club directly above the cabin. There was a ping pong table directly above us. Now that the teen club has moved, that issue should be solved!

Almost twice as much? Granted I have had difficulties finding prices to compare to get an idea of what cat 3 would cost us for June 2005 -but the price 'ranges' listed on disney cruise line's website doesn't show a price range DOUBLE what cat 4 costs- more, but not double. I guess it would be considered double if you went with the lower end of the range on cat 4 vs. higher end of the price range of cat 3?

In any case, we've decided against cat 4. It's just not worth the price to still be quite cramped (it's not much more sq footage than say cat 7!!) -not to mention the murphy bed blocks the verandah- so when the kids are asleep, we wouldn't have use of the verandah and quite frankly that's probably the only time we'd make time to spend time out there! So we've decided to try to go with either cat 3 or TWO cat 7 navigator's verandah- preferably connected. Really leaning more towards cat 3... because of the concierge, more things like table to eat, etc.

Do you think they are already booking cat 3 for June 2005???
