We are not a rope drop family. Have never done it before. That being said we are planning on hitting Magic Kingdom at rope drop on a Tuesday morning in August. I've read through dozens of threads and understand the process of being there early and going through security and seeing the welcome show etc all before 9 am.

Will the shops (specifically Main Street Bakery) be open as the CMs are escorting the guests down Main Street USA? If so, are the shops busy?

We are not looking to start at one of the busy rides. Our plan is to do Tomorrowland first starting with Space Mountain. What would be the best route to get us there quickly?

I would just walk down main street and then heat to TL and go on space, but yes the shops are open are you trying to avoid the crowds if so just wait about 10 minutes and then go in I would not worriy about space having a long line in the morning I rode 4 times all walk on and never hurried over there one morning

Main Street Bakery will be open when you make your way down Main Street. That shop typically gets busy as people are picking up breakfast/ coffee, etc. If you walk directly to Space Mountain, you shouldn't have too long a wait even if you stop at the Bakery. I speaking generally, of course. Each day brings its new adventure in the world of Kingdom lines! :rainbow::rainbow::rainbow::rainbow::rainbow:

I know you're not asking about this, but as a veteran of rope drop specifically in August, I wouldn't pick Space Mountain first. Here's why: It was sweet, sweet air conditioning in the queue. You're going to want/need that later in the day when the temperatures are at their worst. :sunny: I really don't mind waiting in a line for Space Mountain because of the A/C. I typically try to do my planning so that we get in the A/C about every other attraction.

My DH and I typically do Peter Pan's Flight first and then the rest of Fantasyland. This year, we're starting with PPF, and then are going to Haunted Mansion and Splash Mountain. We're hoping to do Splash twice. :-)
