Magic Kingdom No Longer Dry Park Will Serve Wine Beer

Don't see it as a huge deal.... Wouldn't agree with the statement 'magic kingdom' is now serving alcohol. It's just one restaurant, and only inside. You won't see anyone walking the parks drinking.

A French restaurant not offering wine to par with a meal is a bigger offense than some 40 year old belief that Walt would not be pleased with alcohol being offered inside MK.

This from the press event today for New Fantasyland:

Be Our Guest Restaurant will serve Wine/Beer in the evenings. Will not offer options to go.

Magic Kingdom will no longer be a "dry" park.

Thats is about the wrose thing they could do Walt is looking down pretty sad today.........I will be complaining and I expect most Disney fan will be as well!

I don't see what the big deal is here with this and I highly doubt when this opens and is implemented that anyone will notice anything different.:confused3

i don't understand all the hand wringing. a glass of wine or beer with dinner does not a drunkard make.

Walt loved a stiff drink and a smoke, and he was also a businessman. I don't think he would be rolling over at all. :goodvibes

Yes, to both of these! It's beer and wine. You'd have to drink quite a few overpriced glasses of beer or wine to get drunk. I for one am glad Disney is deciding to treat adults like adults and allow wine or beer with what appears to be a lovely (and adult) dinner menu!

Sad news...

I was just going to say that the high pitched squeal you hear is Walt, spinning in his grave. LOL

I just hope they don't try this at Disneyland. Of course, with DL, you can walk 5 to 10 minutes and be at DCA or Downtown Disney or hop the monorail from inside the park to DD and get alcohol. It's a bit more challenging to leave MK - the closest would be to walk or monorail to one of the close resorts, but it's still a trek to get to the monorail.

I don't buy any of the "Walt is rolling in his grave" stuff, whether it's said about this topic, price increases or anything else. Walt was a businessman and once the businessman would see the profit sheet from allowing wine and beer at dinner at one park restaurant, I'm sure he would have green-lit it himself.

And I don't think this is a sad turn of events. If you don't want to drink, then don't. But adults on vacation would sometimes like that option. Cheers!:drinking1

How is it any different that Club 33?

Anytime alcohol and MK are mentioned in the same breath, someone always trots out this old hack and it is SOOOO infuriating!!. And it is not even slightly relevant. Club 33 is a private club. It is not open to the park. Joe Schmo from Idaho can't just waltz in and order a brew. The public areas of Disneyland are dry.

And the reason I'm not happy about today's announcement is that I am quite sure that this is simply the thin edge of the wedge. Soon all of the TS restaurants will offer booze. Then the CS restaurants. Finally we'll see carts near some of the attractions.

And , your point is what? Private guests paying oodles of money can handle their alcohol better? or that people from Idaho can't drink?

What?

and it's WALTZ WALT would like it.

Weird. I've been to Epcot 7 times over the past 15 years and have never seen anyone even remotely tipsy.

I was there during Thanksgiving last year and was disgusted by the number of drunk and obnoxious people running around World Showcase.

but it isn't keeping you away. Right? You're going back?

I've been a lot more than twice and neither have I

Go on a weekend night and you will see it. I was at F & W on a Saturday night a couple of years ago and was shocked at the behaviour, especially women. I think they were getting loaded in the bar in Mexico, that's where most seemed to be.

I don't have a problem with beer or wine during a meal, no one is going to get loaded there.

I am not an alcohol drinker but cheers to you too...:cheer2: I totally agree with everything you said. If one wants to drink, they now can, and if they don't, they don't ::yes:: The choice is there to be had now. Having a beer or a glass of wine with dinner doesn't make one a rowdy drunk. The same way having a whiny screaming child doesn't make one a terrible parent ;)

I am not sure why so many posters applauding this change. Most Disneyphiles on the boards are beyond concerned about the changes in the parks (garbage, light bulbs, dirty bathrooms), the removal of old and cherished rides, grouchy CMs, and the horrible manners exhibited by other guests. Now one of THE oldest traditions at the MK is coming to an end, and you are thrilled? I don't get it.

Is nothing sacred? Clearly the WDW brass are all for raking in the cash, but I am honestly surprised that even they have stooped to this. This is a test, and I have every reason to believe that beer carts will be lined up with the Mickey bar carts before long. And you complain about the aggressive parade crowds now?
