I am just starting to research the new Magic Bands, and I have many questions to those who have already used them. Do you have to have everything loaded on the bands? :confused3 I'm okay with putting my park tickets on them, but do you have to have your room key on them as well? What about the dining plan? Is that on them too? Can you opt to not put the dining plan on the bands? I don't want the kids using up all the credits the first day! ;) I think the whole Magic Band concept is a little too "Big Brother-ish" for me!! :sad2:

Nothing is stored on the actual MagicBands. They access your entitlements from your MDX profile.

If your room reservation is linked to MDX, your MagicBands can open your door.
If your room reservation includes a dining plan, your MagicBands can access the credits. This is no different than how it worked with KTTW cards.
If you have a CC on file with the resort, your MagicBands can be used for purchasing with a required PIN entry. You setup the PIN(s).
If you have park admission linked to your MDX profile, your MagicBand can be used for entry to the parks.

The band is a wearable room key. You can add your park access, charging privileges, dining plan, or any combination just like the old room key. It also allows you access to special features like FP+ and owner recognition.

The information is in Disney's computers, not on the band, the band just identifies you to the computer file.

You misunderstood the question. Do I have to have all those things on the magic bands, or can I just put the park tickets on them?

It's pretty much all or nothing because it automatically reads from your MDX profile. And by nothing, I mean don't use the MagicBands, use a KTTW card instead.

I am looking at this too. I don't want my kids to have access to things like the dining plan credits. I may just skip this thing all together. I usually keep all the KTTW cards in my wallet and they only touch them at park entry. I can see this causing serious issues in the future!

It is the same as the KTTW card. If you don't want them to have access then you keep their band..

I am sure someone will come along and correct me if I am wrong, but we just went at the beginning of October with our Magic Bands. They two adults were able to charge on the Magic Bands (with a pin code) but the kids were not able to charge. We had to enter a pin code when we used our dining plan, so I am *assuming* that as long as the kids don't know the pin code, they won't be able to access the dining plan. Once again, I don't know that this is a fact, I just assumed that's how it worked. :scratchin

Yes, but if your kids have fastpasses or go to the park without you then you'll have to give them the bands. Right now I can give them tickets or fastpasses without giving them the KTTW.

I have no interest in using the bands. Luckily we don't have a trip planned this year.

Children under the age of 10 don't get charging privileges. For those over 10, you can have room charging removed, but I don't know if you can remove access to a dining plan.

BUT...what you are missing is that you can set it up so that they can't access the dining credits unless you give them that access. It's really no different than the KTTW card...It's just one you or they wear.

Does each band that has dining plan credits have access to all the credits for the party in the same room? Or just their own "subset" of credits?

The credits are pooled by room and all of the MagicBands and/or KTTW cards for that rooms occupants have access to all of the credits.

Thank you -- I wondered if it was the same as it was -- sounds like it is. May have to keep that info away from the bottomless pit teenager!

But, it seems to me a teenager should be able to understand that credits are for everyone, and not just them. Now, a 10 year old....maybe not.;)

How do you set this up? I don't see anything on MDX. The pin codes only apply to adults (or kids over 10).

I have 2 little ones. If they lose their band, it seems like i'm at risk of losing my dining credits too! I know with the KTTW card, you did not need a pin to use the dining/snack credits, only to charge.
