What the heck Disney?
I can't see how you are saving money by going with a 3rd party. They have to pay USPS, plus get paid for shipping our MB all over the country before handing it over to USPS. Don't they know there is a USPO in every city of every state?? At any given point the USPS can take over.

That is crazy - at every interchange there's another chance of the package getting lost, mishandled, etc. I had a bamboo dish rack that got delivered to some random address in Alabama - and I live in Massachusetts! I watched it bounce all over the country for two weeks, until it landed and got accepted there.

Oh no! I have child-sized wrists. My MB from 2014 was set on the smallest setting and it still spun around. Anyone have a picture of the 2017 MB?
DW has tiny wrists also. Hers are on the 4th or 5th smallest holes, same holes in fact as our 5 yr old. She said it is comfortable. She did not peel off the black, and instead just tucked it under the mickey head. Maybe this keeps it in place?

USPS package rates are based on distance. So the longer the distance you're sending a package, the more expensive it is. The idea of using a 3rd party shipping company is that these bulk shippers haul your packages most of the distance and hand the package off to the postal service closer to the receiver's address so the shipping rate charged by USPS is less than if mailed directly from one location. The 3rd party shippers also receive a bulk shipper discounted rate from USPS. So Disney ends up saving a few pennies per shipment over what they would pay on average to directly ship with USPS. They are using a really crappy 3rd party company, though, who takes forever, routes all of their packages through a single facility in Illinois no matter the destination, and then hands the package to USPS far from the receivers home.

Well, the bad news is, I did not get my MBs by the ETA date of July 28th. Looks like it won't be until Monday or Tuesday at this point. The good news is....THE USPS HAS IT!!! Finally. So, here is what I am thinking. Disney should help these MBs be a part of the vacation experience. They should put a camera in the box, and at every stop, the person checking it in can push the button and a picture will snap. So, when we receive the package, not only do we get the MBs, but a documented journey! Flat Stanley Disney style! Imean, if the packages are going to travel around the country, may as well have fun in the process.

I'm also in Florida. I hope mine doesn't go to Illinois (still no info other than it left Davenport). OSM claims on their website that they are faster and more efficient than just handing it over to USPS, but for the life of me I cannot see how sending something to Illinois and then on a tour of the US is faster and more efficient than simply handing it over to USPS who would have typically delivered it by today or tomorrow (unless they sent it through the Tampa PO which is horrible in my personal experience).

MB shipping really is crazy. I live in Kennesaw, GA, just northwest of downtown Atlanta. It's part of the Atlanta metro area. Like others, my shipment started in Davenport FL and went to Glendale Heights IL. According to USPS website, as of 8/6, it was in possession of USPS in Atlanta GA. Normally, once something arrives in Atlanta, it is one more day before it gets to me. For the last three days (8/7, 8/8, and 8/9) it says it is in transit, "on it's way to Kennesaw". Now, I know Atlanta has bad traffic, but it doesn't take multiple days to get from anywhere in Atlanta to Kennesaw. It's like rather than just completing the shipment, they are instead sitting on it so as not to deliver any earlier than the original expected delivery day. I'm in no hurry, since I don't leave for another 3 weeks, but it still drives me crazy to watch these shipments progress. I have another set coming for the last two nights of our stay, which will ship in the next couple of days. Hopefully they get here before we leave!

Oh... it will definitely go to Illinois and come back. And it may be faster than direct USPS shipment for those who happen to live within 100 miles of Glendale Heights, Illinois. Otherwise it is almost assuredly going to be slower. And the further you live from Glendale Heights, Illinois the slower it will be when compared to direct USPS shipment. I live 61 miles from Davenport, FL. If Disney had just handed it off to their USPS delivery driver there, I would have had it in 2 days at most. Instead, it took One Stop Mailing 11 days to get it to me.

This isn't about speed for Disney, it is about saving a small amount of money on the average package. When averaged out over the tens of thousands of packages they ship out every year those small savings add up for them.

I guess in this case I'm happy about living within 100 miles of Glendale Heights, Illinois! See, at least there is something good about living in Illinois pixiedust:

My Magicbands shipped today and from reading this thread it looks like I better start enjoying the Magicband postal tracking around the country trip report! Sheesh!! I know last year it took a long time to get them but I didn't track them that closely to realize what was happening. That is some crazy shipping activity :confused3:rotfl:

Mine did not go through Illinois, perhaps it had something to do with the timing. My trip is next week and I didn't customize until last week. It looks like it went direct USPS the whole way

Interesting. I have 2 bands coming. I got one with my Annual Pass, which is on the way right now, though I have no idea where as the tracking still just says it left Davenport with OSM a couple days ago. The other is for a resort reservation and still hasn't shipped (8 days to go), so I had assumed they're just holding it until I check in. I wonder if they'll try to ship it direct like yours.

[EDIT] The 2nd MB still hasn't shipped yet, so I suspect it will be at the resort when I check in. If the estimated arrival dates hold, I should get the 1st a few days before that.

It looks like the package left Glendale Heights, IL last night. OSM still has it, so they may be taking it back to somewhere closer (Atlanta?) to drop it in the mail.

I've been wondering and I can't remember if I saw it in the past but do you happen to know what the company's name is for what Disney uses as their 3rd party shippers?

Update on mine...went from in possession of USPS with an Atlanta location stamp, and on it's way to Kennesaw, to yesterday it arrived at a USPS regional facility in Jacksonville, FL. So it appears that my Atlanta area bound bands have gone from FL to IL to GA to FL? Or perhaps those GA stamped statuses were just messages, and not actual transit locations, in which case it's gone from central FL to IL to north FL. For something that's supposed to be headed to GA. Set two (split-stay) shipped this morning. Will be interested to see if they take the same route.

Seems they have three major hubs one in IL, PA and NV. So I'm guessing mine will hit IL and then PA before making its way to a strip club in Vegas, I mean a Casino. Then will hit the usps in vegas. So I'm guessing another week.

I'm happy others' bands are at least moving, mine had been sitting in Glendale Heights, IL for four days... and then two days ago they left, and now they are..... in limbo? IDK. Somewhere out there. Seems like it'll be a while before our bands make it back. lol. We leave earlier than our trip begins, so hopefully they make it before that. Does anyone know if we can call Disney if they do not arrive until after we leave and get replacements?

(I know it's unlikely, but I'm just curious)

My first set of bands arrived yesterday, 9 days after they were shipped. Going from Florida to Georgia. Google says I could have walked between Davenport FL and my house in less time than it took the magicbands to arrive (6.5 days vs. 9). At least they are here.
