Ughh - why send out coupons when you have a million restrictions on them?:confused3 After waiting in line for 20 min. the cashier says my coupon is good on most coats but not this one. Even the cashier said she needs to ring them up before she knows if they will work.

In this economy you'd think they wouldn't be so tough. The coat I wanted wasn't even on sale. All the other ones on sale would take the coupon - so stupid.

I didn't buy it. I was too mad

Oh, this just happened to me at Office Depot. They sent me in the mail a $10.00 coupon off I believe $75.00 or more (I had recently applied for their Rewards card)....I had in my shopping cart everything imagineable: a shredder, copy paper, pens, ruler, a magnifying glass, stapler, and electric pencil sharpener. I mention BEFORE clerk rings everything up that I have a $10.00 coupon off $75.00. She said GREAT. She rang everything up, scanned the coupon and informed me NOTHING that I had qualified!!! WHATTTTT!!!! Nope, sorry, nothing. I very politely said "no thanks" told her she could keep the coupon and I was going to Staples and would be using my REWARDS card. I get coupons all the time from Staples and never once has my coupons been denied over there.

HOW ODD!!!!

OP, I was mad too.....

Macy's did this with me the year that the Robo robot came out. The one thats black/white and comes in two sizes? I had a coupon for 35% OFF AND when I went to use it I was told I couldn't because it was considered an ELECTRONIC item ! Geez and I thought it was a toy???

I hear ya on the Macy's rant.
They send me coupons all the time and they usually exclude what I want to buy. The last time I tried to buy an egg pan for $20 and they said it was excluded and I said "forget it, then". It wasn't the 15% ($3), it was the principal. You bet I gave my $20 to Bed, Bath & Beyond for my egg pan.

It is so frustrating. Honestly wouldn't they rather get the sale minus a little less instead of no sale?

good for you Momrek leaving it all there- that is crazy that none of it qualified. No wonder stores are doing so poorly

I bought 4 items at Macy's yesterday with 4 coupons and 4 different orders, and had no problems with any of them. They do disqualify many name brand items, but everything is listed.

The only problem I had in the past was that a bathroom scale was considered an "electric" item.

Talked to my mom yest. She was venting to me about the same thing. She had just come back from Macy's and had problems with all the coups.

I really like Macy's, but I also have trouble with their coupons. I usually have a little stack of them in my purse that have expired or just won't work for me. I buy a lot of "every day value" items or whatever they are called, and the coupons usually don't work on them. Sometimes I'm pleasantly surprised. I just ask the clerk to have the computer figure it out for me. The print is too small for me to read now, anyway.
Today I received in in the mail two passes from Macy's. One is for 20% off all day nov 20-Jan 4. I won't list all of the exclusions on the back but they include everday values, super buys, bridge & designer shoes (what's a bridge shoe?) etc. Not valid during one day sale events 12/5 12/6 12/19/ 12/20 etc:

The other is $25 off purchase of $100 or more. Those coupons can drive me crazy. It is so hard figuring out if you really do have $100 worth of eligible stuff. Not that I get to spend $100 very often!!!

Same thing happens at Bobs Stores. Very annoying, and I'd be inclined to walk out with nothing too.

So I see I'm not the only one who has been venting about Macy's lately. If they weren't the only choice in town, I'd be shopping somewhere else.

Maybe everything you bought, but you will notice that any item ending in $.99 (cents) is excluded from most coupons.

The cashier told me anything ending in an 8 can't accept a coupon - like $12.98

I have to get out a magnifying glass to read all the exclusions and then by the time I'm done I have no clue if anything in the store is even allowed. If coupons are too much work to use then I just don't go to that store to use them.

I agree, there are so many exclusions I always say they should just print them with what you can buy. It'd be a lot shorter list.

Last year I racked up a bunch of their $20 for every $50 or something like that coupons. THey wre even good almost immediately, but not for a single thing I would take the time to purchase there (our local Macy's is a dump). What ticked me off was I had been in Atlanta when I got them, didn't realize they stated that same day. :(

I don't think I've ever successfully been able to use a Macy's coupon. I've stopped factoring them in when deciding whether or not to go shopping there. The deals have to be good enough on their own for me to go.
