Macho Man Randy Savage RIP

58 isn't exactly "young". Not too young for a heart attack, sadly.

When you consider the average life-span for a white American male is 75.3 I'd say while maybe not "young" he was definitely on the wrong side of the curve by quite a bit.

I suspect that if many of these wrestlers didn't take as many drugs as they did (both legal and illegal) their average lifespan would jump dramatically.

Even though pro wrestling is choreographed, the toll it takes on the body is still brutal. Brock Lesnar went into MMA because the lifestyle is so much easier. He fights once every few months (when he's not suffering from diverticulitis) and otherwise trains. If he's hurt he can take time off.

In the WWE, you're performing 5-6 nights per week and you have to continue even when injured. Just the damage to your body alone is massive and could lead to a shorter lifespan or certainly a lower quality of life in your later yers. Add to that painkillers and other drugs legally prescribed to deal with that, and then add anabolic steroids and illegal drugs to the mix and it gets even worse.

The toll on the body is very true. DS has been wrestling for a few years now and he is very young but he already knows the toll it will take. And there are no drugs involved for him at all.

Not all wrestlers take steriods, a lot do, but not all. I wouldn't know which do and which do not but its widely known in the wrestling world who does or doesn't. Randy Savage hasn't wrestled since WCW went kapoot over 10 years ago, so not sure why he would still be taking anything if he was in the past.

Other than the working out, most of them are not living a "healthy" lifestyle with or without steriods. I would hardly imagine his got any healthier when he left the profession.

Just a note on Miss Elizabeth--there was a lot of talk that Lex Luger had a lot more to do with her death than was ever said.

Macho Man was one of the most talented wrestlers in or out of the profession. The ring will definitly be a bit darker now.

RIP Macho Man ,
Im a big fan and i go way back in the WWF days and it is a sad day when any wrestler goes on . especially one that to me put wrestling on the map .
and yes many wrestlers do not do good when the used those drugs and make the business look bad . but i think it is the nature of the beast up too todays wrestlers that are getting checked regularly and there have been known suspensions for those that cross that line . Hopefully O&A 100 day mark will be reached soon till then i pixie wish that sad days like today will stop :wizard:

Absolutely.

I use to love Macho Man. I remember 2 of my friends would always come over and spend the night when Sat Night Main Event was on.

This time of year I always hop on YouTube and watch old entrance videos of him in WCW- Pomp and Circumstance on electric guitar is unreal! Never will we see such a charismatic entertainer- Enzo Amore is similar, but lacks the size and true "wrestling" talent.

Can I assume by your username that you are a fan of the late Roddy Piper? Enzo is one of my favorites to watch right now (I rarely watch anymore except live but enjoy watching Enzo and Cass's entrance and promos).

Savage was always my favorite---piper a close second.

Username is from me being a bagpiper and having a good time---too quiet is no fun..Rowdy is the way to be.

Piper and Savage were tremendous on the mic and both were and could go back and forth between heel and face

I definitely agree! I don't know one move from another (just what looks good) but I enjoy the promos and bantering on the mic and Savage and Piper were both fun to watch.

Never into wrestling, but still way too young to die and very sad.

Yes, he was only 58 when he had that heart attack. if he hadn't died six years ago, he'd now be 64 and either retired or looking forward to retirement.

This may be a zombie thread, but it's still a useful reminder to take care of your heart health!

In the end, he wound up marrying the true love of his life and wasn't far from home when he passed. Also- remember: he saved us from the Rapture that year.

He did!

I hated that the heat between him and Vince McMahon was so bad that he never returned to WWE. Vince buying WCW just seemed like the end for a lot of guys in wrestling.

I also hate that his wish of his family also getting in the Hall of Fame wasn't honored but at least he is finally there where he belongs.

I was a huge Savage fan. He's my favorite all time wrestler. That being said, his family really don't belong. His father, Angelo, was never in WWE/WWF/WWWF. And his brother, Lanny, was never that big of a star.

RIP, Macho Man. I'm not a wrestling fan, but my ex was, and had it on often. I remember watching him and Miss Elizabeth, and always did like him. I'm sorry to hear that he passed, and my thoughts are with his family. :sad1:

I thought he died several years ago. Then I looked the date of the thread. I was right. Glad to know my memory isnt all completely messed up lol
