58 isn't exactly "young". Not too young for a heart attack, sadly.
When you consider the average life-span for a white American male is 75.3 I'd say while maybe not "young" he was definitely on the wrong side of the curve by quite a bit.
I suspect that if many of these wrestlers didn't take as many drugs as they did (both legal and illegal) their average lifespan would jump dramatically.

Even though pro wrestling is choreographed, the toll it takes on the body is still brutal. Brock Lesnar went into MMA because the lifestyle is so much easier. He fights once every few months (when he's not suffering from diverticulitis) and otherwise trains. If he's hurt he can take time off.
In the WWE, you're performing 5-6 nights per week and you have to continue even when injured. Just the damage to your body alone is massive and could lead to a shorter lifespan or certainly a lower quality of life in your later yers. Add to that painkillers and other drugs legally prescribed to deal with that, and then add anabolic steroids and illegal drugs to the mix and it gets even worse.

This time of year I always hop on YouTube and watch old entrance videos of him in WCW- Pomp and Circumstance on electric guitar is unreal! Never will we see such a charismatic entertainer- Enzo Amore is similar, but lacks the size and true "wrestling" talent.
Savage was always my favorite---piper a close second.
Username is from me being a bagpiper and having a good time---too quiet is no fun..Rowdy is the way to be.
Piper and Savage were tremendous on the mic and both were and could go back and forth between heel and face
Never into wrestling, but still way too young to die and very sad.
In the end, he wound up marrying the true love of his life and wasn't far from home when he passed. Also- remember: he saved us from the Rapture that year.
I was a huge Savage fan. He's my favorite all time wrestler. That being said, his family really don't belong. His father, Angelo, was never in WWE/WWF/WWWF. And his brother, Lanny, was never that big of a star.I also hate that his wish of his family also getting in the Hall of Fame wasn't honored but at least he is finally there where he belongs.

RIP, Macho Man. I'm not a wrestling fan, but my ex was, and had it on often. I remember watching him and Miss Elizabeth, and always did like him. I'm sorry to hear that he passed, and my thoughts are with his family.![]()
