OK – so here’s my super long trip report. Hope you can bear with me. Our trip to DLR was from Aug 9th to Aug 16th.

First, our trip got off to a rocky start. We flew into Ontario airport (saved $250 per ticket). We decided to take the Super Shuttle from the airport to the hotel. I had called ahead for reservations. All was fine until we arrived at the airport and went to get our ride. When I called, they said the next shuttle would be around in about 15 minutes. Well, it took close to a half hour! Mind you, it’s 9:45 pm local time – 12:45 to us. Then the driver swings back around to the first terminal and picks up 2 other single riders. They are being dropped off at their houses no where close to DLH (where we’re going). After about 90 min., we finally arrive at the hotel – with a very sleepy child (it’s now 11:30 pm but 2:30 am to us). I had no idea that the Super Shuttle would pick up other riders who are going other places than our drop off city.

The trip was a surprise for DD (9 years old). She knew we were going to California but thought it was to San Diego because DH had to work. To her surprise, we were spending the whole week together at DLR. We had the nice lady that was checking us in tell her where she was. After that, she was running around the lobby – very excited. :yay:

We had put in 3 requests in addition to us upgrading to the upper level room – King Bed, Pool View, Dream tower. Well, we ended up with a “pool” view from the Wonder tower (kind of an obstructed pool view), and 2 queen beds. I was a little bummed but no big deal – I knew it was just a request and we did get in pretty late. Our room was very nice though – pretty big, lots of room (not drawer space though). Only problem with the room was the shower. The shower ceiling was very low and the shower head was low too. Didn’t bother me much as I’m short (5’3”). DH is 6’ and had a problem with the shower head – but nothing he couldn’t deal with. He didn’t mind it at all and he was happy with our room. Overall, I was quite pleased with the room too.

Our first day at the park – Sunday 8/10 – we had a tour planned (Discover the Magic). I loved the tour. It was so much fun for the kids. There were only 2 other children besides DD that was on the tour, but I think that made it nice. We were able to go on rides (through the exits so we didn’t have to wait in line). We went on 5 different rides then had a private meet and greet with Mickey in his house. Really cool.

After our tour, I thought we’d run over to CA to see the High School Musical performance and was unprepared to stay in DL. Even though I know MK like the back of my hand, I was lost in DL without knowing where everything was, and what rides were there. We wandered for a while, went to PFF for storytelling, then went on the teacups and decided to go back to the hotel for lunch and a swim. We went back to DL later for the fireworks and a couple rides. We decided to get in the Indy line since the standby wait was only 30 min and Fastpasses were gone. Well, we waited about 20 minutes and the ride shut down and closed for the night. We just gave up and went back to the hotel.

That night, I decided to make a list of all the attractions we wanted to see in CA and make a game plan so we weren’t running across the park from one thing to the next. I did the same thing for DL. That worked out soooo much better! I was able to keep track of what we saw and what we had left to see. On Monday we arrived at the park around 10:30 or so after having the Lilo and Stitch Breakfast at PCH Grill. We didn’t have PS but only waited about 10 min to get in. Once we got to CA, we went to the Disney Visa Meet & Greet, then did TOT (10 min wait), Monsters, Muppet 3D, Golden Zepher, Mulholland Madness (which was NOT worth the wait IMHO), Orange Stinger, KTC, Screamin’ (15 min wait), Soarin’ (which we had a fastpass), and finally GRR (another FP held at the same time – which we were able to do since I got the great tip here that it wasn’t on the network and didn’t know we already had a FP). We left there around 1:30 to get lunch and hit the pool again. I think we were done for the night and didn’t go back to the parks after that.

At this point, I was getting very annoyed with my family. I told them there was no way we’d get to see everything we wanted to see if we only spent 3 – 4 hours in the parks each day. Even though we were there for 6 full days, it was not enough time. The lines weren’t all that short for non FP rides. We’d have to do some waiting. I think they got it because the next day (Tuesday), we spent a good amount of time in the parks.

Stay tuned for more (if you can take it) :rolleyes1

Trip Report continued...

On Tuesday, we started out with Storyteller’s Breakfast at 7:40. We were in DL by 9:00. We decided to hit all of Tomorrow land – first thing was to get SM FP’s, then to Star Tours (5 min wait), Buzz (10 min), Rockets, HISTA (Space Mountain was closed at our FP return time), Innovations, SM (finally opened again). Family wanted to go back to the hotel (again), for lunch and pool. We had dinner resies at RFC for 6:00. After dinner, we went back to DL and went on JC, HM, POTC, BTMRR, FN (45 min wait but we bit the bullet and waited), then Autopia. We had a FP for IJA and the return time was 11:00 pm! I did some of the fun stuff in the queue line like pulling on the rope that said “do not pull”. It was so funny seeing my family get all worried that I touched something that said not to. Very unlike me but I knew the secret and didn’t tell them until after I did it. We ALL love the ride. So much better than the Dinosaur ride in AK at WDW.

On Wednesday, we went back to CA with the agreement that we were going to finish off the park that day before we left. Although we decided not to stay for the Pixar Parade. We started at the Disney Visa Meet & Greet again, then waited in line for TSMM (40 min). Then we had to get to Ariel’s Grotto for our lunch resies. After lunch, we went to Aladin (had PS so we got great seats! And only had to show up 15 min before the show). What an awesome show. We LOVED the Genie. Aladin winked and blew a kiss to DD when he came by on the elephant. DD was in love after that! LOL After Aladin, we went to ITTBAB, Animation, then Redwood Creek. By that time, it was about 3:30 and everyone was hot and tired. Spent time walking around DTD on the way back to the hotel. Went back to CA later to see the Electrical Parade. I remember that from WDW when I was young. Brought back memories. We had Preferred Seating for that as well.

On Thursday, we had PS at Goofy’s Kitchen. Another day the family agreed to hit DL hard. The next day was our last day that we were saving for shopping and seeing HSM2. We started the day in FL – Snow White, Mr. Toad, Storybook Land Canal Boats, Alice, Casy Jr., then made our way around the back of the park and went on the Riverboat. We ran over to get FP’s for Splash. Return time was a bit later and DD was very hot so we went on Pooh which had a 5 min wait. Then DD wanted to go on Pooh again. After that, we headed over to the Enchanted Tiki Room. I was very young the last time I went to that show so it was new to me. It was also VERY cool and gave us a much needed refresher. After the show, I left my family in the shade and decided to stand in line for my very first Dole whip. OMG!!! IT WAS AWESOME! I’m not a big pineapple or coconut fan but it was soooo good. I had to share with everyone else though. I wasn’t sure we would all like it so I only bought 1. Bad decision. The line was too long to wait again so we all had to share the one. We decided to watch the IJ show so we hung out in the area until the line formed. We stayed for the show. It was cute, but I wish there was more shade. After the show, we solved the riddle from IJSHM and saw Indy fighting some bad guys in Adventureland. We then went on HM again because it said there was a 5 min wait. It was a little longer than that, but we had some time before our Splash FP came up. After HM, we went to Splash and ended our day there. DH was coming down with a head cold and not taking the Airborne I brought like I told him to. It was about 4:00 by then and he was wiped out. He headed back to the hotel. DD and I took our time leaving and stopped in some shops in DTD. She LOVED Libby Lu. Come to find out, there’s one here in CT! She’ll be so excited to go.

On Friday, we mostly shopped. DH was still not feeling well. He didn’t do breakfast with us, but he was up and ready to go when we got back. Then DD started complaining her back hurt. So we were slow moving. I gave her some Motrin but it didn’t seem to help. It ended up that she needed to go to the bathroom and was all constipated because she wasn’t having enough to drink. After she went, she felt better but that was later in the day after she suffered through the HSM2 show and a morning of shopping. After HSM2, she and DH headed back to the hotel and I spent some time shopping in DTD because I need to find a different shirt for our dinner at Steakhouse 55. Although after seeing what some people were wearing there, I really didn’t need to change. I was just going by the Unofficial Guide who said it was dressy casual.

Anyway, the few things I never got to do that I wanted to do were all the daytime parades, Fantasmic, Golden Horseshoe Stage, and Pirate’s Lair. I guess we’ll have to plan another trip…

Our Super Shuttle experience was not any better on the return trip. We were told that we would be picked up at 7:50 am. I received a message on my cell phone about 7:15 saying that our driver will be picking us up at 7:30 instead of 7:50 because he had another pickup on the way to the airport and we need to be out there 20 min early. Now, if we were called the night before, we would have been able to plan. But to give us only 15 min notice when we thought we had over 30 minutes was not going to work. We rushed with our last minute stuff and were not able to eat before we left the hotel and was able to get to the shuttle at 7:40. Then, the driver could not find this person’s house to pick up. We drove up and down this street, turning around several times. It was just very frustrating. Luckily, there weren’t very long lines at the airport and we had some time to grab something to eat at the airport. But I don’t think I’ll ever use Super Shuttle again. I would either get a cab or rent a car.

A few reviews of places we ate:

PCH Grill Breakfast – very nice buffet. Characters didn’t do a great job of making it to all the tables, but were very accommodating if you went up to them before you left to get a pic and autograph. PCH Grill for dinner was good. Great choices for kids meals. The only problem we had with PCH Grill was that the Unofficial Guide mentioned you could get sushi for appetizers (which we were looking forward to), but they did not have sushi. Yamabuki had great sushi. We enjoyed dinner there very much. I was worried about DD because she is such a picky eater. But she loves white rice and they had a teriyaki chicken that she ended up liking as well. I had her try a sushi roll and surprisingly, she really liked it. We had dinner one night at Naples. It was real good. They had someone making real elaborate balloon “animals”. She did a great job. Hooke’s Point was good for dinner too. Steakhouse 55 was fabulous. Our best meal of the week and did not cost us much more than any other restaurant we ate at during the week. One morning, we hit Jazz Kitchen for breakfast. We were very disappointed. I would not recommend that place at all. However, the coffee shop at DLH (someone here recommended it) was very good for a quick breakfast.

Wow, if you made it through this report... :surfweb: :worship:

Thank you for your trip report, it was very entertaining to read.

It is very important to drink enough water, or else.............. (oh no! Mr. Bill;) )

It sounds like you and your family had a very nice time, and it is great that you were able to do just about everything on your list.
It can be hard, to try to balance what you would like to do, last year for example although I had a 3 day park hopper, I ended up spending very little time in DCA, but that is o.k. because it is Dl, that I like the best anyway, that is not to say though, that I would not like to spend more time on DCA, because I would like to. My trip this year, I am not so sure how much time that I might be able to work into DCA, but again that is o.k. for hopefully there will be another trip to take to Dl. in the near future.

Can you tell me more about the Discover the Magic tour. What rides did you visit? Was lunch included? Would a 4yo enjoy it? How many people on the tour? I so want to do it but just can't get enough information from anyone.

Thanks
Angela

We loved the tour. We started out on the Train, then to POTC, then to Tarzan's Tree House, then to Buzz Lightyear, then on the Carousel, ended at Mickey's house. Remember though that the kids need to figure out where to go (which attractions) to get the clues for the "treasure hunt".

I think a 4 year old would love it. We had only 1 other family, but 2 children on the tour. I don't know what they limit it to. One was DD's age (9ish) and the other was about 5 or 6. We did not have lunch, but they included a frozen apple juice drink (which was quite good even though I didn't think I'd like it). The tour was from 10am to 12:30 or so. It was great that they got some personal time with Mickey.

Hope this helped! Let me know if you have any other questions. I'll do my best to remember ;)

Thank you for sharing. It sounded like you guys had a great trip. We're going for the same amount of time as you did. We still don't seem to be able to see everything. To this day, I still haven't rode Soarin' or most of the CA rides, for that matter.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. It sounds like a fun trip. I'm happy you had a good time!

And your DD is so cute in her pictures. Personal time with Mickey - wish I had a kid to take on the tour!

It is very important to drink enough water, or else.............. (oh no! Mr. Bill;) )

i was just going to comment on that but that happens to me every stinking time I go to DL and I drink water like there is no tomorrow so I wonder...how much water is enough water to avoid that????

Health and nutrition professionals suggest for an adult, taking in at least 8 - 10, 8 ounce servings of water, over the course of the day. Just good ol' regular water, not the reversed osmosis type, unless minerals were added back into the water. More water, if it is a hot day, and or, one is exercising quite a bit.
It is very important to drink enough water, for when one becomes dehydrated, it makes your kidneys work over time, in order to filter out the impurities in ones body. One knows if they are past thirsty, when they are already thirsty, so to drink water, before one becomes, thirsty, is a good idea.

Cute trip report, thanks for sharing. Sucks about the super shuttle, just out of curiousity do you know if the shuttle you got on said it was going to Anaheim? There is usually a sign in the front window that says where they're going, wondering if you got on one that was to Anaheim or a different one.

I had heard about super shuttle driving all around to drop people off in other cities before taking people to their disney hotels but it has never happened to us, so that's why I'm curious.

The driver knew he was picking us up from our reservation number. I don't think he picked us up because he happened to drive by the terminal. I think he was there to specifically pick us up. When he called back into the headquarters to report who he had in the van, the dispatch seemed surprised that he had the 3 parties in the van at one time. Perhaps one of them shouldn't have gotten on that van? :confused3 Who knows... Plus I wasn't about to wait even longer for another van since they were a 1/2 hour late as it was.

I finally got some more pictures uploaded. Here they are...
