Background: trip was booked last minute (just the week before we left) by my lovely DH as a special treat for us girls to help us relax after a tough year, while he works, poor thing. We’re travelling with MyTravel to Pop Century for a week in the sun….

8. “Best of Times”

I’ve set my alarm this morning as I don’t want to miss the day too much being our last day, so it’s a bit of a nasty shock when it goes off! My morning swim is wonderful, I’m the only one in the pool, the sky is clear and blue and the weather is just perfect. As I float on my back and look up at the sky I reflect on the holiday and I great it’s been. We’ve been so lucky to have this time together, I know it may not happen again, and I am so grateful to my DH for letting us do this (and booking it for us!)

Back in our room Becky has gone straight back to sleep (the minx), she’s well into Florida time now and back to her horrible slothful routine I’m afraid. Remind her it’s our last full day and we eventually get going. Decide to save time and eat at EPCOT. By the time we get there its very cloudy and hum id and there’s obviously a storm in the air…hey it’s our last day, how dare you!!!!

Grab a FP for ‘Soarin’ as the standby line is 60 minutes already, and wander over to Seasons to get some breakfast. There’s too much choice and I eventually opt for a tuna croissant and cherry Danish (lovely mix!) while Becky sticks to her PJ and hummus. Its not wonderfully clean though in this place and there are flies everywhere, the first time we’ve come across this at Disney…yuk!

Still have loads of time afterwards and do the ride, Living with the Land to use up some time. It’s a bit boring if educational, and then over to Living Seas, where it turns out it takes ages to get through to the interesting bit, by which time our FP is ready to be used so we head back to the Land, and Soarin’. Even with our FP there’s still a wait…but it’s certainly worth it in our opinion.

Even though you know it’s not real, it still felt amazing, ‘flying’ through the air, the sounds, sights and smells of the ocean, forests etc. Loved the way you could smell the trees and sea, and the vibrations from the helicopter etc. This was our best ride of the holiday! We find it very relaxing and would have loved to have done it again.

There’s a storm when we get out of the Land and its too sultry to do much so we head into Innoventions and send an e-card to Mark, and becky sends one to her Dad. Then becky says she’s had enough so we decide it’s now LUCKY CHARM time at last! I’ve promised her we’d go over to Goodings at the Crossroads to see if we ca get some today if she stopped nagging so we try and decide the best way to get there. You’d think I’d remember where the buses go from after all these trips wouldn’t you? Well, as usual I have the memory of a goldfish and suggest we take the monorail to the TTC to catch the DTD bus from there…oops!! Doesn’t go from there of course, so it’s back onto the monorail and get off at the Poly where I give up and get a cab to the Crossroads. It’s now raining cats and dogs and there’s a massive storm gathering so we hurry into Goodings, having asked the driver to return in an hour.

Mmmmmmmm, American supermarkets…aren’t they great? We could spend hours in here just checking out all the different things! Pick up bottles of water for the plane, snacks for Becky, Mountain Dew for Mark, and Becky spies her beloved Faygo drink (like pandapops with twice as much colouring!) so we have to get 4 bottles! I buy an enormous peach to eat later, and we get lots of pick and mix sweets, which are great because they all state all the ingredients on so Becky knows what she can have. (Costs us a fortune tho). 2 boxes of Luck Charms are what I limit Becky to, goodness knows how we’ll pack it all anyway!

Outside again it’s a really bad storm, the lightning is incredible and as we’re early we sit on a bench and watch it all (under cover of course!). We’d have checked out the other shops if it hadn’t been so wet (and we hadn’t had so much shopping!). 10 minutes later we’re bored with storm watching and flag down the next cab (sorry to the other cab driver but we couldn’t wait) and head home. He takes a much faster route and it costs only half the money….doh! and we’re soon back at the Pop Century….Lucky Charms and all.

The storm is still raging so it seems a good time to pack….well, I try, but god knows how it’s all going to fit so I give up and we have a party, sort of! Faygo for Becky, Dr Pepper for me, then sweets and that lovely peach. It really was the best peach I’ve ever tasted, so sweet and juicy and Becky still laughs at me going on about it! He lucky charms are saved as becky has promised to take them back for her friends. Replete we then settle down to some great American TV soaps…..which means we promptly fall asleep and don’t wake til after 6!!! We’re supposed to be at Magic Kingdom!

A quick shower and change and we’re off to the food court for a quick supper, where I have clam chowder, & chicken & penne alfredo, which would have been lovely except we had to wait for them to cook Becky’s veggie flatbread separately by which time the pasta was cold. I should’ve taken it aback but we were running out pf time (even though with the extra magic hours Mk was open til 1 am!!!)

As we’re sitting in the food court Becky says she’s still so tired she really just wants to go to bed, and although I do try and persuade her I know she’s not going to budge. I’m really disappointed even though she does say she’ll come if I really want her to. I know what this means, she’ll moan all the way round the park so it’s not worth it. She doesn’t mind if I go out for a while now, so I determine to see the fireworks and Spectromagic (which I love) and then come back.

It’s not the same on your own tho. I have thought I could holiday here on my own, it would be easy, but I change my mind. You just don’t enjoy things in the same way when there’s nobody to share it with. (all say aaaaahhhhh now). I wander round, and cheer myself up by doing It’s a Small World which Becky would never have done…….I even take a photo of the cowboy doll for her! And then Philharmagic which I know Becky would have loved as it features Ariel, Jasmine and others. Lovely show! By this time it’s time for the parade, but because it’s still wet and threatening storms it’s cut very short and seems to take forever to get one float over a slight incline so is very disjointed. I still love it though, and also the fireworks afterwards.

I say a sad goodbye to my second home and hurry back to the bus stop. Good job I’ll be back in October! I manage to catch a bus waiting there and miss all the crowds leaving. Grab a beer from the food court and back to room and Becky. She’s done a little packing, had a shower and been reading and relaxing. She often needs space and time on her won so I guess after spending all week together it was cool. We’re soon asleep and dreaming of Lucky Charms…..

Can’t believe we go home tomorrow..

Bet you’re all glad I’m nearly done!
Night night all….

:rotfl2: small world on my own....i would never have got off !
soarin sounds wonderful and im sitting here wondering if i will be able to fit early morning swims into my very hectic planning schedule

Excellent report ~ Thanx for posting.

Lovely report. At least you know you are back in October, I always find it hard leaving Magic Kingdom not knowing when I will see it again.

What are Lucky Charms?

We loved Seasons in May, although I do remember saying to Matt, "Wonder how long it'll be before it starts to look grotty?" Not long, it seems!

I'm also beginning to realise just how lucky I was to get to ride Soarin' 7 times. It was still in 'pre-show' during our first week (i.e. not being advertised at all) and we could literally have just kept walking round and round, if we'd had a mind to. The lines that week were shorter than the FASTPASS lines the following week.

What's different about the Lucky Charms in the US? Or don't they sell them over here any more?

not seen Lucky Charms over here for ages now:( They're cereal with coloured marshmallows in for those that don't know....and are full of bad additives and stuff which is why they stopped selling them I think over here!!!!

Deb, I'm grren with envy that you got to do Soarin so many times!!!! :smooth:

Lucky Charms are very yummy, love the way the charms go fluffy soft when they've been sitting in the milk for a while...note fluffy, definately not soggy :rotfl2: . Totally with Becky on this one. I don't want to read the next part cos I know its the last one. Just promise we can have another trippie in October...please?...

Much pixiedust,
Claire xx

Aww your report is coming to an end :( I've really enjoyed reading your adventures, your last evening at MK sounded great.
